| world,s most beautiful lake Posted: 4/8/2006 9:42:50 AM | In California's Eastern Sierra, if Mono Lake is a little too stark for you, too moon-scapey,
just go down the road to June Lake. This is a blue-green jewel with a Sierra Mountain
backdrop which you can first view from Oh! Ridge (named because of the view) just off
Hiway 395.
A friend named Jane told me to be sure to see June Lake (which I'd skipped before), and she
was right. So whenever I'm there, I always send her a postcard showing what I now call
"Jane Lake."
It also happens to figure in entertainment lore. This is where Walter Lantz and bride spent
their honeymoon. They were repeatedly annoyed in their cabin by the sound of a persistent
woodpecker (no -- a real live wild bird one!). Walter was an animator and named his
newest creation Woody Woodpecker. The rest, as they say, is history. I like to kid my
friends that Woody was discovered in the nearby Schwab's drugstore, wearing a tight sweater
and sipping a soda. But I think actually that was someone like Lana Turner or whomever.

| world,s most beautiful lake Posted: 4/20/2006 6:19:22 PM | | I would say in Canada, a tiny little lake about 30 minutes away from Jasper, Alberta called horseshoe lake. Freezing cold, but crystal clear and has cliff diving all around it. Also, the glacier lakes in Interlaked, Switzerland- anyone ever been? | |

| World's most beautiful lake Posted: 4/24/2006 11:12:27 PM | People have already mentioned a few of the truly beautiful mountain lakes in Alberta; but there's a lake near Banff that no-one's brought up yet...
"...for the white chalk suspended translucently in the water, was named by French fur traders in the 18th century. Featuring a beautiful lake, a valley hemmed in by the Enceinte Teton mountain peaks, and a hanging valley of larches beneath the third highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies, it's little wonder that Lac Taiting rivals Lake Louise in scenic grandeur, for those adventurous enough to seek it out. One look from the chalk cliffs overlooking the lake's edge, and you're hooked."

| World's most beautiful lake Posted: 4/25/2006 9:06:45 PM | Only going on what I have seen, suanetje.
I didn't find Lake Como polluted; it didn't LOOK polluted. The lake and the scenery were amazing to me. Sad if it is polluted, much like it makes me sad how many beautiful lakes here in Alberta are horribly polluted. Darned humans!

| World's most beautiful lake Posted: 4/26/2006 1:05:48 AM | | But lake como is just sad water in comparising with the senery of for instance morraine lake or peyto lake. the performarance of the elements of nature are mutch better . wont find that in europe like that . | |

| World's most beautiful lake Posted: 4/26/2006 9:12:51 AM | I agree with Webhead
Lake Titicaca on the Peru/Bolivia border is an amazing lake; it is so high in the Andes that the clouds are on the level of the lake which turns out so stunning when you take photographs
Other lakes that I have seen that are stunning are:
Lake Wakipatu in South New Zealand - the lake that Queenstown is; the colour of the water and the remarkable Remarkables (where some of the Lord of the Rings filmes were shot - the Ronin scenes I think; the castle on top of the big hill where Wormtongue was in control of the king) Lake Siwa in Egypt - an oasis lake in the Sahara, the background merges into the sand and gives an eeiry effect
mmmm I haven't seen that many lakes

| World's most beautiful lake Posted: 4/26/2006 7:55:06 PM | There are so many great vistas to talk about.
Off the top of my head, I would say Lake Geneva in Switzerland.
I am off to Europe solo from mid-June to early July or so.
Going to head far north and see the sights after a bit in Germany for the World Cup.
The two central lakes in Sweden are great as well. Also, the Skajjerak (though not a lake) is amazing.

| World's most beautiful lake Posted: 4/28/2006 9:50:07 PM | Got to cross this off my list.
Okay, my Lac Tating was fake. Say it out loud. Oh, and "Enceinte Teton" is French for either pregnant breast or harnessed breast, depending upon which translation you use. The chalk particles suspended in the water would have made the water look like mother's milk (maybe?). Also, to my knowledge, chalk does not exist in its natural state in Alberta. However, to my credit, the following parts of my message were true:
• there were French fur traders in Alberta in the 18th century • there are beautiful lakes of scenic grandeur in the Albertan Rockies; Lake Louise is a good example • there are larches in Alberta
April fools? I don't know. GE&H
