Wasn't sure where to post this one, so I figured it had somewhat to do with sex since it is birth control.

I have just recently learned that the birth control needle dep - provera is very very bad!!
A friend of mine has been on it for about 7 years now, and has had so many health problems because of this.

She had gone to the doctor yesturday to get her "shot" and the doc insisted that they now have to do a bone density test. And had also told her he strongly recomends that she no longer uses this method of birth control. It has so many side effects...osteoporosis, cervical cancer, massive depression, the list is so long those were to name a few. But in my researdh on the net I have found that the co. that makes this drug is being sued by millions of woman....the lawsuit is now in the billions. There is a lawyer in Toronto and one in Newfoundland. So please, do your research on birth control and talk to your doctor.

I found out about this problem with my youngest daughter she took the shots for about 4 months and now she can not carry a baby to term because of the damage that has been done to her.
I am glad that you started thi s thread, I wouldn't have thought of it myself.
Ladies please beware if this. As was said always check things out before using.

My one friends daughter almost died from hemorrhaging thanks to this form of birth control..

One morning she was standing brushing her teeth when her mom walked by..
About 3 minutes later my friend heard a loud bang.. rushing to the bathroom she found her daughter laying in a pool of blood..

Scary stuff out there.. side effects just aren't worth it sometimes!

I personally know someone that has had the injection and she is now having so many health problems because of the injections...Although she and her husband have been married for 5 years and together for I don't know how long, they are now trying for a baby and I don't know how successfull that will be...

I personally have never had the injection and don't intend to (although this doctor has tried to con me into it whenever I have coped him to renew my oral contraception pill and I have said no to him everytime). I will stick to the Oral Contraceptive thank you (and I am not sexually active)

70% of women of use Depo Provera gain weight. Almost half of the women using Depo Provera gain more than 5 pounds after one year of use. Many women gain more than 10 pounds. Irregular, heavy, or no bleeding are common side effects of Depo Provera. After a year of use, many women stop having periods. Lack of a period becomes increasingly common with longer use. Other side effects of Depo Provera can include headaches, nervousness, mood changes, bloating, hot flashes, decreased interest in sex, breast tenderness, acne, hair loss, and back ache. After the last shot of Depo Provera, it can take over 6 months for the drug to leave the body. Side effects may linger until the drug is completely gone.

I looked into this a number of years ago and my doctor listed pretty much all of the above as the side effects. This and my age were the deciding factors in not getting it. As far as I'm concerned, if your doctor doesn't go over each of these and explain them to your satisfaction then I would find a new doctor. Besides, with the information available on the internet I don't think we can point our fingers at the drug companies and say "I didn't know". You need to take responsibility for yourself and the things you put into your body.

I myself went on this drug many years ago after my son was born. 7 years infact. I cant take 'the pill' as it makes my stomache turn and puke it back up... and seeing as I have 2 kids and single my doctor decided that this method may be up my alley. Well, I thought it was great... No more periods, no more worries about forgetting it, cheaper then the pill, cheaper then buy condoms for 3 months, OMG the miracle drug!! Woohooo bring it on!!!

UNTIL......................

I took the first shot.... I got my period.. thats ok, it takes awhile for the drug to kick in. Ok... few months later... period still happening, this time, HEAVY HEAVY, and constant. I took the drug for nine months thinking maybe it will change.... I bled for 6 months straight... And just after I was 'back to normal' I went to the doctors due to pain and that during period and sex and everyday functions, that I found out I have endometriousis. I have been through 4 surgeries since... 2 miscarriages (because of the damage I can not carry to term)... and the last resort after 3 years of this, tubal ligation. 27 and I was fixed! I mean, I am done with having kids anyways, I dealt with it. I am 29 with two beautiful children ages 10 and 8, I am happy with just that. I still get the endometriousis from time to time, the infections I get with it are horrible, but its alot better then it was. Last surgery I had was the tubal ligation, thank god!

So please a note to all like the others said............. READ, RESEARCH, KNOW WHAT GOES INTO YOUR BODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for reading.

RE: Gallavanting,

They have found since july of 2005 alot more problems, and have recently changed their warnings on the packages. These cases are from the people that have been on this drug for years and all of this information was not provided to them. Such as my friend who has been on it for almost 8 years. Now they have the warnings where as before they didn't.

If that's not enough to keep you away..take my warning as well... My best friend took one of those shots when she was 21 years old, three days later, she fell over in the floor dead. Autopsy stated she died from heart attack...they would not rule out that the shot caused it however they wouldn't say conclusively that it did either. She had no previous health problems at all though and she was newly married of 2 years and had a little girl who was one....throughout her pregnancy and all, there was nothing...no health problems...no explanation, but I decided right then that there was no way I would take that shot.

My gf used the patch for a long time to control her extremely out-of-control period; doctor eventually took her off it because it had such a high dose of hormones it was causing all sorts of damage. You've gotta be careful, have a good doctor, and do your research no matter what you use.

I was on it for almost 3 years....I stopped 1.5 years ago as I was 105lbs and went to 130 almost, huge difference. I also noticed my sex drive, I did not think about sex that much, so those 2 together were enought to stop. Besides that I experienced no more side effects. But i hear bad stuff about it.

WOW! I'm on it now and my doctor just said my periods would stop and I might gain weight. So I was thinking okay if those are the only side effects great I'll take it. After reading these horror stories I think its time to rethink my decision.

Like the gentleman said, for every horror story, there's a million happy endings. I've been on the shot for 8 years, was informed of all the side effects, and still this was the better option than the pill for me. No weight gain, no reduced sex-drive, no period....which rocks, by the way, since I used to pass out from the pain before. So, I guess I'm a success story. Just wanted to post something positive for the drug.

i always refused to go on the shot cause i said to my mom "if its strong enough to stop your periods its bad" god put the period there for a reason, if ever your periods become irregular, to heavy or to light....SOMETHING IS WRONG! itts like a big WARNING! WARNING! sign flashing in your face.

What is really scary is this new drug that stops your periods all together. Peole trust meds to much, and then complain about the symptoms afterwards.

now i know that even the smallest amount of birth control can cause my tumor to grow adn become "active". Also, all my other health problems started after the birth of my kid, and then i went on the pill...... i refuse to put that shit in my system again,.

Luxy30, an ex-girlfriend had endo for the last 3 of our 3 1/2 years together. She was misdiagnosed many times before they found it (and so was I, one swore it was gonorrhea, not a pleasant test).

I few years ago I paid for an acupuncture treatment for her and evidently it worked. I spoke to her about a year later and she said she was off the Depo with no reoccurance. IIRC, he treated her for something related to calcium.

This drug is brutal and i am part of the class action lawsuit going on

I attained weak bone denisty and hypertension from depo -- im 27

I was told by my dr the worst thing that would happen from the shot is i might gain weight ... 35 pounds later and high blood pressure ..

It really wasnt worth it

I wouldnt advise anyone to take it because although there might be 20798328347 good stories about it there is the chance you can be the one to die from it -- is it worth it ?

Look, I don't want to be the a-hole in this thread, but this crap sickens me. You join a lawsuit because you claim a drug made you lose bone density and fatter.

you know, I don't even wanna say it, go ahead and live in your world void of any personal responsibility whatsoever. sick.

And this coming from a man who obviously has never experienced anything female whatsoever ...

Sometimes when one casts stones one must turn the other way so that said stone does not hit back ...

Unless you have walked a mile in someones shoes ( especially that of a ladies) its best to keep ones opinion when that pigheaded and ridiculous to ones self .

I would ask you for one moment to possibly think about if your mother , sister , daughter, took a drug and it caused them to get sick , lose bone density , get heart problems, and gain weight wouldnt you be a tadddddddddddddddd tiny bit upset? No matter how active you are on this drug if your body does not adapt such as the thousands of people who did not than you suffer extreme side effects . The class action lawsuit has been brought about to protect the women who suffered from this drug - TO NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN BUT TO THE FAULT OF THE DRUG COMPANY AND DRS WHO FAILED TO PROPERLY INFORM THESE WOMEN WHAT THEY WERE GETTING INTO ..

So my fishy friend ... ask yourself .. if this was your family memeber and a drug company and Drs had failed to inform them properly of the side effects that may occur while on this drug ...

Would you not be exactly where i am today ?

Thoughts to ponder
