| Night Shift.... Posted: 4/13/2006 11:26:06 PM | | Is there anyone else out there that works nights? I come on here to keep my sanity at night and all I seem to come in contact with are a bunch of horny guys. Are there any normal people up at this hour? | |

| Night Shift.... Posted: 4/13/2006 11:36:23 PM | Yeah get out of work at midnight usually quite wired so online I go , not much else to do these late hours , so here I am. | |

| Night Shift.... Posted: 4/13/2006 11:39:15 PM | I hear ya areno.... Are the women as perverted as the men?! | |

| Night Shift.... Posted: 4/13/2006 11:47:22 PM | I've worked the vampire shift for the last 17 years...even when I'm off I've always fallen into the up-at-night schedule. Right now I'm on recuperative leave from work; depending on circumstances I may need to switch careers and start my own business...which means (shudder) being up days!
Oughtta be interesting to see how I integrate that with my natural nocturnal tendencies, huh?
I've been fortunate, since joining the site in September I've met some mighty cool people, both men and women, including several UK folks who I regularly correspond with and count as friends.
Sure, I've encountered a few non-fun oddballs here that I'd as soon not spend a lot of time on, but just like everything else in life, I use my judgement and budget my resources appropriately. I put my efforts and energies into developing friendships with the good ones, while politely ushering the not-so-good out into the world. It's well worth making time for these great folks; ya can never have too many friends, I believe!

| Night Shift.... Posted: 4/13/2006 11:53:21 PM | | I couldn't imagine 17 years of nights.... I am in year two and fading fast. I believe there are normal people out there, however, I must be looking in all the wrong places! | |

So? No two people have the same needs or priorities; maybe you're just not wired for night work! Perhaps you'll find yourself something in the same line of work to do during the daylight hours...listen to that 'still, small voice' inside you that tells you the important things, I bet you'll do spiffingly!

|
| Night Shift.... Posted: 4/14/2006 12:25:27 AM | LOL!
Ma'amselle, I'm 44 and I STILL don't know...
Here's my thinking: There's all the world of difference between someone who's an adult...and one who's a grownup. As my profile says, balance is my priority in life, and for me, keeping a little of a child-like (NOT to be confused with child-ish!) view of the world is essential to being a well developed human being, both to keep one's mind open to new and unexpected good things the world offers, as well to appreciate the small but vital pleasures we have right now. Offset that with some healthy adult cynicism and realistic appraisals of what's important...not to mention the ability to discern what's not good for you, and I think you've got a sound recipe for good living.
I hope I never grow up 100%. I think of 'grownups' as lacking the ability to see or appreciate the things I just mentioned, and I don't wanna ever get that dead inside.

| Night Shift.... Posted: 8/5/2006 11:36:57 AM | I work nights.. 10pm-6am.. and I have been doing nights for over 2 years now.. It's crazy.. but you get used to it.. and unfortunatly my work checks up on our internet logs quite a bit so this isn't a site for me to be on
I use this for when I can't sleep during the day.. or for my nights off when I can't sleep b/c anyone who works nights knows.. theres plenty of those nights
and yes there is perv's but you have to realize they are on 24hr's a day, 7 days a week.. So no matter what time your on, they are too.. :) just use the block button it comes in handy!

| Night Shift.... Posted: 1/4/2007 7:37:51 AM | | I have been working nights for a year and do not find it all that bad. The only thing that I do not like about working that shift is that I tend to be buggered on weekends if I stay up on fridays which i do quite often. I have read somewhere also, that every hour of sleep you neglect to get, you can't recharge at a later date. By that I mean if you only get an average of 5 hours a day/night, in 5 days, you only have 25 hours of sleep when you should have gotten anywhere from 35 to 40 hours of zzz and you can't just make that difference up on weekends. I don't think our bodies were designed like that. | |
|
| Night Shift.... Posted: 1/4/2007 9:52:55 AM | I work afternoon shifts up to 11pm and when I did nights, I found it hard, not wired for it, and didn't do the shift for any length.
I found when I meet people, most work days, and my shifts don't match most people, including my friends. I like what I do and when I'm online late, I usually answer my email and unwind from my shift.

| Night Shift.... Posted: 1/4/2007 1:59:23 PM | I did nights for years...it really screws your system up. Trying to get into a more "normal" lifestyle....such as getting up in the mornig, going to work, spending time with the family in the evenings, or even just watching prime time TV. Almost impossible, simply because I can't sleep at night now, until very late. Always dragged out, etc. Then, I adjusted a bit,,,things got a bit better and more normal...then got stuck back on nights again. Union wouldn't do****for me. So...did what I could, and continued on.
As far as I'm concerned, nights should be left for the head managers. Let them spend their time away form family and friends! Otherwise, pay out a BIG premium for night work. No 25 cents or a buck...more like time and a half.
Right now, I am not working, so, I try to get to bed at a decent hour, and get up to enjoy the day, but the pain keeps me awake most of the night anyways.

| Night Shift.... Posted: 1/4/2007 4:37:06 PM | | Working nights can weak havoc on your Circadian sleep cycles, which can screw up your hormne balance. If you have to, do whatever you can to stimulate night conditions when you sleep during the day, it will help alot. | |

| Night Shift.... Posted: 1/6/2008 12:30:42 AM | There's also people that work night shift. But as it turns out, I googled "night shift+dating" to get your forum post. And given I was googling that because I work graveyard and have a hard time finding people doing the same shift, I too, technically, fall in the category of horny.
Sorry Now back to work | |
|
| Night Shift.... Posted: 1/6/2008 1:08:01 AM | | I did it for a couple of years and the found the secret is.....be outside for at least one (if not a couple) of hours a day....regardless of the cost....a little bit of daylight is most important to ones health.....mental and physical.... | |
|
| Night Shift.... Posted: 1/6/2008 1:08:56 AM | I've worked graveyards for about 30 years. You cannot work nights and keep a daytime lifestyle. You must keep the same hours all week or else it will completly screw you up. Nobody understands night people. Nobody loves you when you work graveyard. | |

| Night Shift.... Posted: 1/6/2008 2:40:47 AM | Currently sitting in work...
I work both midnights on the weekends and days Tues-Thurs. With a 6 on 1 off then a 4 on 3 off alternating weeks. Same schedule for 5 years now.
Because I'm an operator and work the phones with no other help, I love the question that all new employees ask "What do you do when you need to pee" (because we work alone at night) Now I just point to the garbage bin at desks, that usually gets them.
I prefer to work the midnights. I can eat when I want, I can read at my desk, listen to what ever music I want... and best of all, no management on me!

Do you walk into bars and ask for the sober people?

| Night Shift.... Posted: 1/7/2008 11:08:56 PM | I work 12 hour days and nights and I hate night shifts as they throw your sleep off. I worked 12 hour nights over the weekend and I'm still up and yet I switch to 12 hour days on Thursday.
I especially hate night shifts in the summer when my neighbours are mowing their lawn or loudly fixing something when I'm trying to sleep during the day.
Although we have internet at work, I can't access sites like POF or MySpace etc., as we have to use our username and password and the I.T. police will get us in trouble as they can access where we have been. I either have to go to work related sites or benign sites - nothing with a username or password, so I can't even do my banking online at work when it's quiet.
Days is alot busier but at least I get to sleep at night. I need to get more melatonin for sleeping during the days. This helps you sleep and your levels are down during the day. I also use a sleep mask to keep light out.
Most of my colleagues big complaint about working nights is not enough sleep. Sleep is important for health and shift workers are the most sleep deprived group there is. This is why Timmies is making a killing as all the health care workers, cops, paramedics and firefighters (aka shift workers) are their main customers. Now I'm going to bed for my much needed sleep. Good night everyone and sweet dreams.

| Night Shift.... Posted: 1/8/2008 5:40:22 PM | | Nights should always be paid a premium, as should evening work. Weekends too. With this 24\7 working hours going for a lot of jobs, we need to be compensated for taking time away form our families, etc. Daycare is a nightmare when you work nights. Maybe things should be worked pover a bit to make it much easier for employers to actually do their business during normal business hours and evening work paid at 1 and a half the day rate and nights double. Saturdays double and Sunday triple. A lot of part timers and students could get a better rate of pay in this way and thos ewho really want the money can make arrangements to work the premium hours. Employers who do not wish to comply can run their businesses during normal hours through the week and if they ant more, managment is quite welcome to keep the business going during "off hours:. | |
