| acne problems Posted: 4/14/2006 8:47:36 PM | Tea tree oil!
And pure coconut oil ( That shit is amazing)
But go with the tea tree oil, if you go into a health food store, you can buy it there pretty cheap, and they also have natural soaps, look for one made with coal, its generally..black..lol it works great too. A friend of mine has skin problems, and I buy him the coal soap all the time, he swears by it.
Good luck | |

| acne problems Posted: 4/15/2006 12:50:56 AM | Acne is an extremely complex problem. I'll be honest with you -- you're NOT likely to get much help here. I'd start with the Wikipedia entry about acne, and google some. There's a lot of into out there, but they still don't know the exact cause of acne. Some factors are known -- and it's not eating chocolate -- that you can modify that will help. But no magic bullet yet.
If you are 28 and have acne, heredity is perhaps a factor.

| acne problems Posted: 4/15/2006 6:39:59 PM | I have a food allergy with dairy, and it caused acne eruptions.
I have noticed a significant improvement in my skin whenever I removed dairy from my diet. I had a lactose intolerance test done recently that was positive which reinforced my suspicions.
I found that reducing sugar in my diet also helped.
Drinking lots of water with my meal seems to help keep my skin clear.
I find that by keeping a healthy diet, the skin problems go away.
Good Luck | |

| acne problems Posted: 4/17/2006 12:17:31 PM | | spread Peanut Butter all over your face for 30 minutes a day and it will help a lot. | |

| acne problems Posted: 4/17/2006 3:07:52 PM | | I had HUGE acne problems after my daughter. I tried EVERYTHING, over the counter regimes, no make-up, different make-up, VERY expensive laser treatments, tanning, more water very healthy diet, lots of exercise, stress releif programs you name it, tea tree oil, proactive ALL OF IT! I now have clear skin all due to Accutaine. I know people may have side effects.... myself I had not ONE! So it is really a miracle drug and it works extremely well, I was on for six months and have been off for about the same I have not had ONE pimple since! I absolutly swear by it! | |
|
| acne problems Posted: 4/17/2006 6:43:23 PM | Yes, I agree on that...Accutane is the best. In my experience with this treatment...the only bad thing was dry lips but acne free ever since!!!
One thing that can worsen acne is long hair, due to oil on your hair. The shorter the better!!!
Another is...this bar soap is the best that I've tried since my teens...Cetaphil by Galderma also available over the counter at your pharmacy.
Good luck...

| acne problems Posted: 4/18/2006 2:28:28 PM | Hi,
Gosh, I wish I had a magic answer. Acne is an ongoing problem for so many people and it can be caused by so many factors. Have you had a dermatologist take a look at your face and body acne? I would get a professional opinion first (to see if it's hormone or allergy related). Can you share with us what you are currently using (products)? Have you always had acne or is it just sporadic?
One thing you do NOT want to do is to touch, rub or dig at acne (which can lead to scars or further break outs). Sometimes applying neosporin can help. But again....every bodies skincare needs are different. There are many good products on the market to target acne. Are you using a specific cleanser or treatment product presently?
|
| acne problems Posted: 4/18/2006 5:16:52 PM | | i would advise anyone to stay away from accutane, its had a class action suit ongoing against the makers of it. I was on it, I have many health problems now that may be due to the drug. Its just not worth it. Now i know that just because ive got issues doesnt mean that the drug caused them but if i could do it over again, i would have never gone on it. | |
|
| acne problems Posted: 4/18/2006 5:26:58 PM | Hey folks....I agree that Accutane is very powerful and can be dangerous.
When I was taking it, prior to the treatment my doctor check my bloodwork making sure my health was fine. It was...during the treatment every month I was getting bloodwork and a visit to my doctor to assure that my health was not affected. Both my HDL, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides levels were a bit elevated, which is normal when taking Accutane. I certainly agree that there is many side effects for this treatment. In my case it worked perfectly...other than dry lips.

| acne problems Posted: 4/18/2006 8:47:18 PM | this drug should be banned

| acne problems Posted: 4/23/2006 6:51:46 AM | If you drink milk a lot you'll have breakouts. Studies have proved this among college students. Contrary to belief don't use products that contain alchohol ... they dry skin out and then you get over active oil glands trying to make up for it causing acne.
Drink lots of water, take extra vitamin C because Vitamin C is good for clear skin. Use aloe vera on your skin or breakouts because it heals and mosturizes. Sunshine will also help acne .... but be careful you don't get too much, sunburns don't help. If you touch your face a lot keep hands clean, dirt will infect pores and cause breakouts. (Women with tons of makeup are more likely to have clear skin because they protect it with mosturizers and of course the makeup leaving poors from getting bacteria in it. <- just a side note.)
I haven't heard of the teatree oil ... I might have to try that.
I am and have been prone to all types of acne so I thought I would post a few things I found out. I hope they help.

| acne problems Posted: 1/24/2008 11:15:33 AM | i tried proactive which does not work.. I tried Acne free which claims that is 5 times better than proactive and it did not work.. I tried purchasing Clearasil which does not work... Has anybody tried Murad? I am so pissed..i started getting acne ever since i started working out ..it is kind of annoying because it simply will not go away.. | |
|
| acne problems Posted: 1/24/2008 11:17:15 AM | | if i can't use acutane should i use the tea tree oil and coconut oil. I mean did these people use proactive before they used tea tree oil and coconut oil? i would assume proactive is better than coconut oil and tea tree oil | |
|
| acne problems Posted: 2/17/2008 6:37:34 AM | | not that you guys care but stop drinking dairy for two weeks and see if that helps because it triggers acne. I noticed my acne is going away... | |

| acne problems Posted: 2/17/2008 8:35:35 AM | Coconut oil works well, better than those acne creams. Simply put it on at night time and by morning most of should be gone. Avoid milk products, most fats and sugars since it can cause acne to break out. Drink plenty of water to flush out the toxins and eat plenty of vegetables (for veggies I suggest you eat sprouts, you can buy them at your local grocery store, if you like them you can grow them on your own even cheaper. If you are afraid getting sick from eating them soak the sprouts in vingear and water solution for 15 to 20 minutes) Get some sunlight during the spring and summer months and try to get plenty of fresh air. Try meditation it helps releases toxins from your body. This one uses breathing techniques, deep breathing releases toxins. Remember acne is a sign that your body is toxic. | acne problems Posted: 2/17/2008 9:28:57 AM | The most important thing is to understand your skin type. Treating acne based on your skin type is important. It is important to know that acne is the result of clogged pores so your skin type will play a part. However I think the following should work well universally.
- Clean your face in the morning and afternoon. The type of cleanser will depend on your skin type. I like cethaphil facial cleanser for sensitive skin. - Apply benzoyl peroxide to troublesome areas. If you are prone to get acne on your forehead then apply there and etc. I normally just apply it all over my face. You can get a cheap source of benzoyl peroxide at http://acne.org - Then moisturize with a moisturizer that is meant for your face. You can't use body moisturizer as it contains oils that may clog your pores. I personally like to use Cethaphil facial moisturizer with sunscreen.
Do not touch your face as you risk clogging your pores with dirt.
Also don't think you need to spend a lot of money on the facial cleanser and moisturizer. I've used very expensive products in the past but I've found the following to be 100% effective and cost effective.
Cethaphil facial cleanser Cethaphil facial moisturizer 2.5 Benzoyl peroxide from http://acne.org

| acne problems Posted: 2/17/2008 12:51:25 PM | | benzoyl peroxide doesn't work and it tends to stink. You don't need all that junk just good old coconut oil will do water. Even person with oily skin coconut oil will take care of it. Coconut oil will reduce acne to at least 40 to 50% providing you follow a sensible diet. If a person is eating a lot of sugar, fats and meat then it work as good. | |

| acne problems Posted: 2/17/2008 2:04:13 PM | Ok, there are two possible reasons for acne- 1 being what you ingest, 2 being what goes on your face.
Contrary to popular belief, acne is not just the result of pores becoming clogged from surface dirt. As some here have mentioned, dairy causes them to break out. Personally, any kind of corn derivative makes me break out. (1 swig og coke, and I'll have three zits by morning). There can be systemic problems in your body and acne is a symptom of them. Proper skin care for this kind of acne will be of limited success because it isn't addressing the cause. Cortico-steroids (often found in things like anti-histamines) and other drugs can also cause acne (Ephedrine gives me cyst like acne- no fun at all).
Things like benzoyl peroxide (which is hard on your skin and causes it to thin and age faster!) salycilic acid, alochol, etc., may work, however they are hard on your skin, and don't ever "fix the problem" the just fix the symptoms- and they do nothing to nourish, protect, or care for your face. And oily skin is a symptom of dry skin- your skin isn't getting enough moisture, so it makes excess oil in an effort to prevent dryness. Using drying products to prevent the oil does not help your skin.
Tea tree oil is a natural anti-fungal, anti-bacterial oil. However, it can be harsh on the skin, and the smell is unpleasant to some. Lavender oil smells nicer, has similar properties, but is a little gentler on skin. However, put the two together, and personally, I love the scent.
Both of these however would be best served by being used in a carrier oil, and applied to a cleansed face. Putting a natural oil, such as virgin coconut, or expeller pressed almond oil on your skin before bed can have fantastic results. Oil nourishes and moisturizes the skin- and your skin is always trying to repair itself at night.
So how do I keep my skin clear? I watch my diet, and personally, I use apricot kernel/carrot oil combo on my skin every night. (Along with proper skin care from Nutri-Metics)

benzoyl peroxide doesn't work and it tends to stink.
Well I'm living proof it works and the ones that I use is odorless. If you look at all the major acne cream, their main ingredient is 2.5% benzoyl peroxide. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benzoyl_peroxide
Can you point me to a some source that says it doesn't work? I'm sure my positive result is not some placebo affect.
dairy causes them to break out
My understanding of this is the result of all steroids among other things that we pump into dairy cows that eventually enters our body is the reason for the outbreak.
I'm all for alternative acne treatments but is there any actual scientific evidence that something like coconut oil does treat acne or is this anecdotal?
Yes benzoyl peroxide can dry your skin, which is how it treats acne, but that is why you have to use a VERY GOOD MOISTURIZER.

| acne problems Posted: 2/17/2008 8:29:39 PM | Coconut oil works better that's all I have tried both. Coconut oil is sometimes used to make natural toothpaste along with other ingredients. Coconut oil is antifungal/antibacteria, it is also great to consume and brush you teeth with. Sugar, fats, too much meat and dairy products are the major causes. From what I have learned acne is caused when your body is toxic meaning your body PH is not around 7.2 to 7.5. Even high consumption of most grains can cause acne or at least contribute to the cause.
