| Rugby league Posted: 4/14/2006 11:59:54 PM | hi there league fans, would just like to know on your thoughts about what the hell has happened to Wigan, they are getting beat by teams who you would never have thought could ever beat them and if things dont look up then the unthinkable could happen and they get relegated, what do you think they need to do to turn it around, is it players are coaching staff. | |
| Rugby league Posted: 4/16/2006 10:20:18 AM | it has alot 2 do with the amount of players released by the previous manager b4 geeting rid of martin aspinwall and stephan wild 2 the huddelsfield giants. also brain carney who has gone 2 newcastle knights in the nrl
hopefully if they appoint brian noble as the next head coach things will change but reality says that they are going 2 be in a relagation battle with the likes of walkfield, castleford and maybe haraquins rl which will be a shame coz they dominated rugby league in the 90s
| Rugby league Posted: 4/16/2006 11:15:54 AM | | MSG 2 I agree with all your comments, apart from the "it's a shame" aspect. There are many in RL who feel that Wigan's plight is one of the best things to happen in the game since...Hull KR's demise as a serious RL entity. I, for one, am enjoying every moment of it!! | |

| Rugby league Posted: 4/18/2006 2:22:41 AM | | l see where you are coming from, but do not agree with brian noble changing things, l think he has got to be completly crazy to even leave the bulls for wigan, and going by the results over the weekend wigan will be lucky to get out of the relegation battle, that would be a total crime if that was to happen. | |
| Rugby league Posted: 4/18/2006 2:59:49 AM | Wigan's problems to me seem to stem from the coach not having complete control over the hirings & firings at Wigan. I'm involved in the coaching of the junoir teams & the ladies set ups for a local superleague rival so I get lots of info on what goes on.
Wigan can never relive the glory days because (rightly) their spending has been levelled to the same as the rest of us.
This season they still haven't replaced Farrell or Lamb, their overseas signings have got injured, and Radlinski retiring has left them very weak. In the off season they got rid of 14 junior players so the production line that replaced the injured players has gone astray. They've just signed a forward from Swinton, for me that's the biggest signal that things have hit rock bottom. Plus selling Newton, Robinson, Carney, Wild, t'other Sculthorpe etc hasn't helped.
Noble (as good as he is) can't repair injuries, and can't magic players from thin air. Whoever takes over has a hell of a job keeping them in Superleague.
Personally I'm loving it. The reaction of the fans that took it for granted that they looked down on the rest of us is priceless.

| Rugby league Posted: 4/18/2006 11:57:25 AM | | Ringman, which, in your opinion, would be the crime, Wigan escaping or Wigan going down? | |
| Rugby league Posted: 4/18/2006 2:00:59 PM | | judgeing by the reaction 2night by brian noble i dont think he is going anywhere | |
| Rugby league Posted: 4/18/2006 10:48:47 PM | | good point, dont know, in one hand it would be better for them to go down to try and regroup but on the other hand teams that get relegated struggle to come back up straight away ( even in football ) so not sure, but cant see them escaping so l think they will go down and that is a shame. | |

judgeing by the reaction 2night by brian noble i dont think he is going anywhere .
Depends, Davies went behind Nobbys back & agreed that Wigan could talk to him. He did this without Noble being aware it was going on. There's clearly a rift between the coach & the CEO. It looks like the board are split too. One of them HAS to leave, Davies or Noble.
I think Noble wants to stay at Bradford. No one has coached back to back Grand Final victories & Bradford look as though they could, especially if they play as they did last night. Hope they don;t do it at our place this weekend.

| Rugby league Posted: 4/19/2006 9:05:28 AM | | its like a never ending soap opera | |
| Rugby league Posted: 4/19/2006 2:37:56 PM | If Brian deserts his home town team for a team from "over the hill", he has lost all sense of reason, propriety, and honour.
I'm not a Bradford fan, being from Halifax. In fact, I loathe Bradford. I hated Northern, and I hate City, and it's even worse for the Bulls ( who have a silent "Hit" after their name). When we played them at Odsal, we would take thousands of fans to their quarry of a ground, yet they would bring about two coach loads to Thrum Hall.
Even my mum, who never ever swears, told me over the phone that when Bradford came to the Shay, the Halifax fans chanted "Where were you when you were sh!t!" at them, and that was my mum, ffs!
BUT..
Sport has taught me that loyalty is everything.
I met Brian several times at the bank where I worked when he still played for Northern. He is a decent bloke, as is his brother, Bill, who also played.
If he goes to Wigan, I'll be sad...but not if he takes them down!
| Rugby league Posted: 4/19/2006 2:46:35 PM | | im not a wigan fan either im a salford city reds fans (coz im from salford) but im a massive rugby league fan and i dont want a team like wigan 2 go down but stranger things have happened b4 | |
| Rugby league Posted: 4/19/2006 3:32:31 PM | | So, you are implying that once-great teams should stay in the top flight? Wanna tell that to Featherstone or Dewsbury fans? | |
| Rugby league Posted: 4/19/2006 10:44:23 PM | | l dont think he means it like that, as we all know great or good teams have bad spells and get droped ie ( football team leeds ) they spent so much money it not only got them relegated it all most got them bankrupt, as lm from london l have always followed wigan dont know why but just did, but even on fridays or saturdays lm watching who ever sky are showing, as l like the game unlike union cant stand too much kicking and penaltys, l just hope they stay up but will carry on watching even if they are relegated. | |
| Rugby league Posted: 4/20/2006 1:18:21 AM | | The only reason I'd miss Wigan is because of their support. To have them replaced by a Leigh or a Widnes team that has a following of a couple of thousand impacts on the rest of SL as their wage bill is dependant on attendance. | |
| Rugby league Posted: 4/20/2006 1:40:31 AM | Wigan and rugby are close to my heart since i come from the Farrell family.... would love to see them relive their glory dayz ..... | |
| Rugby league Posted: 4/20/2006 3:12:39 AM | | Sky just anounced Nobby as the new Pie coach. | |
| Rugby league Posted: 4/21/2006 1:03:24 PM | | Let's wish him every success...............not! | |
| Rugby league Posted: 4/21/2006 1:52:24 PM | | how unlucky was salford 2night they didnt deserve 2 lose against the saints | |
| Rugby league Posted: 4/21/2006 1:57:49 PM | | I agree, they really surprised me with thier effort. If only Hodgson's inside pass had stuck! | |
| Rugby league Posted: 4/21/2006 2:14:27 PM | it just shows on there day the can play with the big boys that spell in the second half when they had loads of possestion on the st helens line and nothing happerd untill near the end | |
| Rugby league Posted: 4/21/2006 3:26:00 PM | | Karl, of course, was a major star for my home-town team, though he never cracked the national side. | |
| Rugby league Posted: 4/21/2006 3:33:23 PM | | he seems 2 be getting the best out of the players at the moment i mean david hodgson and luke robinson have been major stars 4 them this year if they carry on the way they are a top six finish is possible 4 them, which is a turn around from the last 2 years when they finished 9th in super league | |
| Rugby league Posted: 4/21/2006 4:34:22 PM | Long way to go, yet, but things are going well.
The Willows was never a happy place for Halifax. We won there twice in about 25 attempts.
