I always love this question over beers with friends. If anyone is brave enough to answer it. What is the shallowest reason you have chosen to break up with someone, or chosen not to pursue a contact with someone?

okay I will embarrass myself....I was about 14 or something and I broke up with a fantastic guy because he had a rather odd last name. I seriously regretted it but I have realized in hindsight that at the time I had to come up with something as I was a bit overwhelmed by how wonderful he was and seriously doubted myself about the whole thing.

I was immature and 14 and if I saw him today I would apologize for not giving him the opportunity he deserved.

I chose not to see someone I was casually seeing because he was cheap...granted I am not a greedy person and I usually pay my own way BUT when we are at a tastefest where the area's BEST restaurants are there with samples of food to taste for a fee.....and he brings his own food in his pocket(power bar) and eats it in the bathroom..and refuses to get anything to eat OR drink ( he emails me to bring my own water)..and he takes me home after walking around smelling the barbeque smells in the 80 degree weather for four hours.....I decided that was enough..

Height. I know- shameful. I'm 5'7" and just can't see myself with someone 5'4", I'd feel awkard. Color me shallow.

The guy was repulsive and lied about the age of his photo ( and no web cam ) walked out of the meeting and got sick to my stomach.....( guess the mexican food was a bad choice )

No one under 5'10 has a chance with me....I think of this as a preference. I am 5'6 and usually wear 3" heels. That means at 5'10, he is 1" taller than me. See, there is a science to it.

I will admit to my most shallowest (barring in mind that we didn't connect in MANY ways), the one thing I couldn't get over with this guy was that he wore a kilt. I was raised in the country and have 3 redneck (in every sense of the word) brothers, who get their jollies from finding something to tease me about for every boyfriend i've ever had. This guy said, if I was ever to take him home to a "formal function" such as a wedding or something, that he would wear his kilt every time, and there was nothing I could do to convince him otherwise, because this was his heritage (distant I might add). He even plays the bagpipes! It gave me nightmares, My brother's would have had a hey-dey with him, I would never have heard the end of it!! I just couldn't do it, the guy's gotta fit in with my family too.

HAHA!! I just thought of another one

Back in the early 90's just when NEON and flourescent clothing were going out of style. I was walking to the bus (to college) with the guy I was seeing at the time. He was wearing flourescent green shorts (too cold for shorts), flourescent orange wind breaker, had the neon pink string on his sunglasses, which were also those irredescent, multi-colour shades we had back then, he even had flourescent shoelaces for gawd's sake He was like a walking frigging neon sign that said "Hey, look at me!!" I was never so embarrased in my life!! in front of people I knew from school too. I told him later that evening I didn't think things would work out between us. yeah, maybe i was a little vain.. but oh boy.. talk about a fashion no no!

>arealangel, msg 3- I agree with badbrian. You werent shallow and you gave him 3.75 hours more than you should have. There is nothing wrong with going window shopping and not buying anything but to spend 4 hours with all that food and not eating? I bet he didnt even share the power bar. I would say that date was more a form of torture!

An online girl gave me her number once and when I called to talk, I got her answering machine.

Her voice reminded me of the sound a balloon makes when you stretch out the opening tightly and let the air out very slowly.

I couldn't imagine dating a girl with a voice like that. I knew it was very shallow of me, but I didn't leave a message and never called her again.

Well, you had a good excuse, you were only 14, didn't know any better, but.....there are women MY age, that don't know any better either.

ok this is shallow, but hey we were all young once!

a guy took me to a bar, he wore white socks (with black trousers and shoes) and he made me buy a round of drink, as Queen Victoria puts it 'one was not amused!'

OK, Regnis, but are you seriously trying to say you would have stayed with her if her last name was Large?

Not one I have done but one I received. I had an ex who I was with for a year and a half, lived together for 8 months. She decided to go back to university and informed me that "since she was going back to school, she didn't want to be tied down in case something better came along"!

Depends, did he mean it, or did you perceive this to be just one more lie?

Or were you scared shitless of commitment?

Here's one my friend did...YES my friend, not me!!! She broke up with a guy because he had a habit of pounding his fist on his leg while they were watching t.v.!!! Mind you she has also left a guy because he had ugly toes.....

And no it's not my friend in the pics with me!!

As for myself...When I was 12 or 13 I said no to a guy who asked me to "go with him" because I didn't know what it meant!!!!!
