| | Spelling, or lack thereof these daysPage 1 of 7 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) | I just came across one girl's profile which read:
Profession: waitress n breeder Interests: if i int wrkin id probly b chillin wit m8z... Do you do drugs? Socially
And it made me wonder, do any guys actually reply to these sorts of profiles? Would the women reply to a profile written like that if it were a guy's? I would find it hard to believe, but that may just be personal bias, so I'd like to get a variety of opinions. If you would, could you tell me why as I don't presently understand, thanks.

And it made me wonder, do any guys actually reply to these sorts of profiles? Probably thousands. Firstly because it sounds like lots of guys don't read the profiles and just mail anybody of the opposite gender; they maybe aren't fussy. Secondly because there's probably lots of guys out there who wouldn't know any better if they did read it; it wouldn't make much difference to them. You probably read profiles and badly written ones bother you so you will probably be attracted to someone else. So in a way, I guess the system works! Happy fishing.

| Spelling, or lack thereof these days Posted: 4/26/2006 2:07:47 PM | I agrre with SnowMonkey, and add as #3........ it looks "easy". Personally, I wouldn't as I read the profiles, and don't e-mail girls that do drugs. | |

| Spelling, or lack thereof these days Posted: 4/26/2006 2:09:00 PM | | Nope. I really don't like it much. It's one thing to misspell a word once in a while on purpose to be cute or whatever (such as "m8z"), but most of the rest just looks horrible. Throw in the ones with one long run-on sentence (which are just as hard to read, I think.) | |

| Spelling, or lack thereof these days Posted: 4/26/2006 2:24:45 PM | I hate text speak and poor spelling. It is ok in a text message, but I prefer the rest in english.
Having to sit and decode things is such a pain.
I also hate those wee programs that turn stuff you type on msn into wee pictures.
Talking to someone becomes a game of catchphrase.....Say what you see.....
Oh , I see....you're saying squiggle, eyeball, hook, squiggle squiggle, eyeball. Hmmmm ???
The standards in spelling also seem to have fallen dramatically. Everyone has the odd typo, but some people just can't spell or are too lazy to correct it.....
(Just did a quick check back to make sure I didn't do it)

| Spelling, or lack thereof these days Posted: 4/26/2006 4:11:07 PM | I did say everyone makes the odd typo, but the original post was about infantile text talk and also the fact they did drugs....
I wouldn't judge anyone on a typo. Jeez my typing looks like i did it with fingers like a bling cobblers thumb....
I think its the deliberate stuff that gets up folks noses.

| Spelling, or lack thereof these days Posted: 4/27/2006 5:58:38 AM | To be honest,my grammer isn't good enough to be critical of others.. But if i come across as you described, then i tend to think she's wrote it with one hand, while putting make-up on with the other, with Mc Fly blaring in the background..Not my cup of char. | |

| Spelling, or lack thereof these days Posted: 4/27/2006 6:22:32 AM | As a former Scottish under 21 scrabble champion i used to have very high standards in Grammer but have found the older i get the less i care now....:( | |
|
| Spelling, or lack thereof these days Posted: 4/27/2006 8:57:02 AM | The smaller the space between the words, the emptier the space between the ears.
When I was in school, I won every spelling bee I entered. I may have even won a few which I didn't enter.
Am I an elitist because intelligence and knowledge are two elements of attraction for me? I think not.

| Spelling, or lack thereof these days Posted: 1/16/2007 10:20:49 AM | I use text speak if I'm texting on my phone just for quickness and to shorten the message but as for profiles or normal writing I personally can't stand it. I think it's just pure laziness! I have also found that since I've worked with 14/16 year olds in schools, whenever I'm doing English with them and then marking their work they often use text speak in essay's and don't think anything of it. I do blame schools partly for not teaching correct English and spelling in the first place! | |

| Spelling, or lack thereof these days Posted: 1/16/2007 10:28:50 AM |
its easy 2 type in txt its easy 2 understand Sorry, I disagree... I find 'text speak' really quite difficult to understand most of the time and often have to re-read it through before I can work out what the hell the writer is trying to say! With predictive text on mobile phones now there really is no excuse for it.....and certainly no reason for it on a computer.
|
| Spelling, or lack thereof these days Posted: 1/16/2007 11:03:34 AM | there`s a new way of spelling, it doesn`t border on text speak or anything we`ve been brought up with, but it`s unique to this forum, for more information find a copy of "INGLISHE FORE THE MASIS" by real deal 26. | |

| Spelling, or lack thereof these days Posted: 1/30/2007 8:52:22 AM | I'm having a moan, a rant, a whinge. Bear with me.
What? Not 'wot'.
What? Meaning 'which thing' is spelled W H A T.
It has an 'H' in it.
And no 'O'.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Moan over.
