Just looking to pick the brains of anyone who has travelled to Peru. Myself and a friend are likely going down in August, but we have no idea what to expect (he wants to see a girl, I want to travel). Would be very grateful for any tips, stories, or suggestions on where to go or what to do.

Ask away, lol I wish I knew what questions. We are looking at going for two weeks. I guess, what would you do, or what would be a don't miss kind of thing while down there. Also was wondering what the night life might be like down there. This is so open ended, sorry, but I have no clue. My buddy wants to go down to see a girl, and I figured hell, if its not love at least it would be a cool trip. So I guess mainly, if you were going to Peru, what would you definitely not want to skip? By the way, I really appreciate any and all advice you might want to give.

well i love my peru but why do you guys wanna go to a place like that to find women (well i mean your friend...

well you gotta tell me the things you're into? hiking, rafting, regular site seeing, into history, culture, art, museums?

you can do the typical 'gringo trail'

cuzco machu picchu puno and maybe arequipa, ummm as well as ica/naza/pisco

what kinda dollars are we talking here (budget) isanother important thing... everything is CHEAP! and i mean a couple dollars for hostels, bus ride, meals...
BUT when you do the inca trail (4days, $400+ usually) your budget inflats alot... if you do rafting you're looking at 25-50... regular 2-3 hikes, umm 30-50 probably, ummm so there's a start, when are you going again? and is 2 weeks 14 days in TOTAL like including leaving and getting back on plane, or do u have 14 days to actually do stuff/travel?

Went to Peru 4 yrs ago and did a lot of the things mentioned ^^^^^

If you do the Inca trail hike up to Macchu Picchu it's a good idea to spend a couple days in Cuzco (get used to the altitude) and there are some good day tours you can book while there. For the Inca Trail we used SAS Travel (I think you can find them on the web) and they are located right in the town square. The hike was hard, but in the end...glad that I did it and didn't take the easy way up! Take some bug spray and dress in lots of layers...the weather was all over the place. Cold at night camping...bbrrrrr!! Had a friend go recently and she got sick eating coca leaves...so not sure about that. We drank coca tea and it was good...but didn't chew the leaves!!
We also went to Puno to see Lake Titicaca (shouldn't miss that), Arequipa (to see Juanita..the frozen Inca mummy), went to the Colca Canyon to see the condors (waited forever but we finally saw them...they are huge) and we did the Nazca lines (you can hire a cessna to take you up).

As for the night life...don't know...didn't go down there for that! And we only spent a couple days in Lima...big city, noisy.

Hope some of this helps!

The best time to go to Cuzco is in June
Lima is very cold right now and should probably continue until September.
Do you know were you are staying?
Lima is very interesting; the downtown has lots to see
the Cathedral
The Palace
Churches
Catacombs
many museums
shopping and restaurants
You might want to stay closer to the beach in "Miraflores" or "Barranco"
These places are safer and not so noisy
I have a niece that lives there, she is 29
Let me know if you need help

Just returned from two weeks in Peru. Was a great holiday but don't forget it's winter there right now and so a little cool for them. Was about 16 during daytime in Lima. Food was cheap, dates were plentiful and the people are the freindliest. Must sees are Machu Pichu Right now you can get a flight to Cusco from Lima for $100 which is about 1/2 price. Other places to see are Manacora Beach in the north. Try teh wine, try the pisco, try it all :-) Handicraft Market in Miraflores is cheap if you have a local there to help you get the prices down.

Have a good trip!!

I lived in Peru for a year and consider it my "home away from home". I realize this thread is a bit old now, but would love to talk to anyone planning to travel to Peru.

demi123123- write some more details as to where you are traveling and what types of activities and I may be able to give you more information that may be helpful. I live in Lima 6 to 8 months a year and I have traveled almost everywhere in Peru.

Some people says is the best time to go to Cuzco on June b/c it barely rains.

But to be honest, if you truly wish to enjoy Cuzco without having to walk through crowds of tourist waves.. Then go on March.

Plus on March everything is Green and Beautiful bc is rain season. But don't worry, one day Rains and the other day is Beautiful............ Trust me.
