Seriously though, my dog who I adopted a few weeks ago is wonderful. He has one sometimes aweful trait...he farts...worse than the kids book, "Walter the farting dog"
Besides changing his expensive diet of Innouvo Evo dog food, is there anything anyone knows that can be given to ease this affliction of terminal flatuation?
Any suggestions would be welcomed...except the one about putting a cork in it...lost two windows already...at this rate I will be windowless by next week  | |

I gotta say though, one of the more entertaining moments around our house is when one of our dogs startles herself by cutting one. Heck, one time it made her jump so bad that she hit her head on the recliner. You just can't help but laugh at that. | |

My dog isn't the slightest bit phased by it as they are the silent ones but they are putrid enough to chase us out of the room.
He gets no table scraps...just a combination of Evo & Milk Bones. Someone else recommended the Formula diet...just because it is good and about half the price I am paying now.
I am just concerned because he is very lean to begin with and needs a high energy diet to match his high energy habits....this dog loves to run full out for miles & miles and then sleeps. There is no in between.

Posted: 5/3/2006 3:47:54 PM | I wasn't actually suggesting a brand. We use iam's, but there are like 5 different kinds. The normal adult version caused more gas than the lamb&rice version (for mine anyway). I just thought your brand might have a similar offering.
You might try getting treats from the same people that make the food, and skip the milk bones for a while. We've had some treats around here that have caused problems. (similar to the way switching brands of food for one day can cause problems, I guess.) | |

I used to feed my dog Iam's from a puppy until his death 17 years later so it did him/me well. I just adopted this dog and I am hesitant to change his diet as the breed is very high energy, high sensativity to diet.
i will try changing his treats back...thanks for the tip | |

Damn dog runs around the yard farting up a storm, comes in lays down and farts. I think it's more the breed type English Mastiff. my dogs are on a special food that you need a prescription card to get, think its called WD, they were fat so its nothing but fiber and they shit all the time and fart like nothing else, but the upside is they have lost a lot of the pounds..
I just drink a lot more and we have contest now to see who is worse | |

This Innouvo Evo stuff is prety fancy smancy stuff to...suppose be the equiv of a raw meal diet. His parents are both US/Can Champions....champion farters as far as I can tell
What happen to the old days of Kibble N Bits and Purina Puppy Chow? I am not even sure if Alpo is still around. Dogs never farted back then...they just got big and fat. Seems that everyone has moved to obsessing about their pet's diet. I can't believe the number of boutique dog stores on top of the big pet store chains.

I have the opposite problem, trying to keep weight on him, keep his feeding regulated. Apparently, although I still don't understand this...overfeeding him on this diet will result in more weight loss?
I need to really take him to a good vet. He has only been with me for 3 weeks now but he still looks a little underweight. Thats why I was giving him more treats as I am training him which resulted in more farting...sheesh

Posted: 5/4/2006 9:25:17 AM | I had to try 5 or 6 different foods before I found one that didn't have my dog driving me out of a room with her farts. Dogs are all a little different, so you'll just have to experiment. The one that works well for her is Beneful--Healthy Radiance. I think Purina makes it. Your dog may or may not fart after eating it, and that's assuming your dog will eat it.
The worst farts she's ever had: I gave her the last bite of a breakfast burrito from Sonic. Don't ever give a dog anything with powdered eggs in it. Geez . . . it was awful. She farted so bad, she turned around and gave her ass a funny look.

Well heck! What do you expect? You haven't had him long, so he's still adjusting and doesn't know exactly what his routine is or what he needs to expect. This also has to do with stress. It should get a lot better when he knows what's expected of him and gets more familiar with you. I'd keep him on the same food for a while just so that he gets used to a routine. Once he's used to it and he feels comfortable, then change his diet if he's still farting. | |

Came across a book I had about called "Your Pet" and I read an article where people with showdogs that must have had a farting problem gave their dogs Yogurt.
Tried plain yogurt on my dog and guess what IT WORKED. The farts did not smell and I am serious.
Mixed a little bit of the yogurt in with my dog's food. | |

Posted: 5/5/2006 2:25:50 PM | I just got a new pup a few weeks ago (pic in profile) and never until today did I notice a gas problem and can only put the blame on a teaspoon of cookie dough that he grabbed when I wasn't looking as it was the first and only time he ever ate people food, and my God did it stink...my eyes almost started to water and he knew dam well what he did.
his regular diet is a 50/50 mixture of puppy chow and Nutrience puppy food. | |

He has a gut issue once he turned 7ish. & his farts wern't bad either.. just a little toot & no smell.. Nutro has food for high energy dogs.
