Just had a really stupid thought! Ya, I know, tis like my first one I ever had!!!
When you read someone's profile, do you not wish that somehow you could just get into it and correct the spelling issues?? And I am not necessarily insinuating the person does not know how to spell. Perhaps they were in a hurry to put their profile up and just overlooked a mistake or two??? Gee, I must really be having an off the wall day!!!!!!!!!

I get that urge every day especially in the forums. Some of the very young members have a lot of spelling errors - the school system has failed somewhere - sorry if you young ones find this offensive but it is what I have observed.

or maybe they have nails and make typos. they be multitaskers and not proof read there work. There are any number of reasons, but if we could get in there and correct the typos then people could also get in there and make changes.

I would hate to see what kind of Kaos there would be then. Nice thought though.

I am dyslexic so I know how hard it can be to write a spelling free profile. I cut and pasted it into a program that had a spell check then put the correct version back. I do that every time I change my profile.

I always welcome mail conserning my spelling errors. And I appreciate it when someone kindly points them out in my posts. Having dyslexia I remember correct spelling in odd ways, like when someone tells me.

I met somebody from here who had HORRIBLE spelling. It was a dyslexia issue, and he ended up being a really fun and great guy. If I didn't look past the spelling (which I grew to find very adorable) I would have missed out on a wonderful experience.

He put a profile up here after we broke up and I tried to help him with the spelling but he didn't want any help lol.

I guess what I'm saying is everybody has their pet peeves which is fine, but if you judge people on it then you could really miss out.

Hey you all? It was not passing judgement at all! I never pointed out being illiterate as the reason for incorrect spelling! Sheesh! All I meant was...if there are errors for whatever reason, just thought it would be cool to help edit them...some folks don't even know they are there!

I actually read a thread that was posted today and it was so badly misspelt I couldn't get the just of what they were trying to say. I just gave up trying to decipher it and moved onto another thread.

I have often wondered about the general education of people in here when I see such atrocious spelling. Lord knows I am far from perfect in spelling, but when easy words like sense have been spelled "sence" or someone said high "heals" rather than heels, or "bieng" instead of being, I think a 10 year old would know the difference.

hahahaha ^^^^ at heaven. I saw a profile to-day of a teacher who challenged any-one to find an error in his spelling on his profile. LOL! I only found 2 but did not e-mail him. Not my type at all. Good gimmick to get e-mails though dontcha think?

I really miss poutine...that guy never cared about spelling one whit. But you do get the ones who spell so bad that you can't make head nor tails of it and people are going WTF and scratching their heads........it really can get very funny!

Kit........don't be bustin yer brain sweetie thinkin up new stuff.

Hey all I think you guys are great but I have to be honest I type really fast and make alot of typo's hahaha... Don't we all and my grammer stinks ...! My spelling stinks too!!!!!!!! Yet I am a very intelligent person I can take a computer apart and put it back together I can do pretty much anything on a computer.... I am smart when it comes to politics, math and I am always a great person to have a conversation with because I am up to date on things... but for some unknown reason I just could never get this spelling thing right.... So it would be a great idea if you guys could correct it because then I would not look like such an a$$... I once read in one of the threads "are these people just stupid" because of thier spelling but that is not that case at all some of us just did not get it I am sure if I sat down with some people and said hey can you help me put this pc back together and hook it up to a network they would just sit there and look at me like WTF? We all excell in different things I am not in any way saying anyone is passing judgement on anyone but try and be understanding.... But I also have to say it would be nice to have a personal proof reader because I hate the fact that I mess up so much any volenteers ......

@lpca? You darlin, totally got the meaning of this post! It was not intended to offend or in fact, indicate stupidity on anyone's part....I just thought a great many folks would/could be appreciate of having their profile corrected! As you stated, you can put a PC together...could I? No way in heck! We all excel at different things and it is great when we can assist others in areas where they need it!

^^^^^^^^... in this case I agree

typos are one thing, and if a person is dyslexic, hopefully they have gotten to adulthood by developing coping strategies, but not knowing when to use two, to and too, the difference between except and accept, know and no...you get the point...that is inexcusable.....(IMHO)

Dishonesty.....Cheating.....Shallowness.....Laziness.....THOSE things are inexcusable.

Not knowing how to spell isn't going to affect the happiness of my relationship lol.....it's definately under the excusable category.

I don't mind occasional spelling mistakes in profiles. After all, mistakes are part of our human nature.

I 100% agree with you!

I am sorry but not everyone is perfect! I had a good education I went to college and I got excellent grades! I am a computer tech so I must have some what of a brain.

But if a man or women can not see past my spelling and if they think that makes me less of a person in their eyes, then to be honest I don't need to be around someone that shallow.

I can except constructive criticism and I am always ok with someone pointing out something for me because it helps me to understand it better and the next time I may or I may not make the same mistake.

Try not being so hypocritical of others and lend a helping hand some people may take offence and some may not...

I had a boy read my profile once and mention something about paragraphs. I was a little embarrased at first, but then I thought, if that is the most poignant thing he walked away with after he read a little part of me that I was willing to share then he can SUCK it!

I know we can all be a little self-righteous sometimes though!

For myself, I like to see that someone has put some effort into their profiles. Ensuring that the spelling is correct indicates to me that they have actually read it and have taken some pride in what they have written. This is your romantic resume and sometimes you only have one chance to catch someone's eye.

Now chat is a different story. It's realtime and is meant to be instant. Mistyping and spelling are two different things.

Hmm..definitely Kitkat..:)
Two of my pet peeves are bad spelling and bad grammar. Yikes....hate that it bothers me, but it does. I particularly love when people say 'more better'...that's my favorite:)

i rec'd an e-mail yesterday and the sender complimented me on my spelling in my profile. Seems he was very impressed by it.(especially the fact that I spelled "independent" correctly) I kind of went off on a tangent in my reply to him about correct spelling and grammar (not directed at him) and have not heard back from him, even though he SAID we would chat today. Sometimes you gotta know when to just say thanks and that's it. Learned my lesson for the day! But, yeah, sometimes bad spelling is attributed to learning disabilities (what a terrible word!!), but for the most part, on the internet, I would have to say it's due to sheer laziness.
