| Female singers in hard rock/metal. Posted: 5/12/2006 1:26:26 PM | I need to listen to the concievably best female vocalists in metal. I'm not a huge fan of female singers which is really hypocritical cause I'm female and like to sing....that's why I need others opinions.
I'm not talking something like Kittie either. I'm not talking shit about Kittie but that would not be what I would consider the top of the list....I mean someone with some very developed vocal skills.

| Female singers in hard rock/metal. Posted: 5/12/2006 2:38:37 PM | Well I am not sure this is up your alley or even considered by you to be metal. But you could say give Lee Aaron a listen. She is what was considered metal in the old days.
The only other band besides kittie actually i listened to with a female vocalist in a metal band would be arch enemy.
But i don't think you meant that since she sings kind of like in the "kittie" style

| Female singers in hard rock/metal. Posted: 5/12/2006 5:55:18 PM | Lee Aaron......I've never heard of Lee Aaron.
I'll have to check that out. I'm looking for a female singer that had or has a clear, traditional and accomplished approach to singer metal....not so much growling and stuff, but not excluding growling exactly either....but you know, easy on the ears without a bunch of effects and overlaps....a good singer. Personally I liked wendy O williams even though a lot of their stuff was really corny sounding, but that was what was cool about it. Once you "got it" you realized she was a crazy woman with a pretty determined voice. Some people catagorize that as punk and I haven't heard everything but Maggots was a total play on power metal. That was a great album.

Bif Naked is a solo act but yeah, she is pretty good. Actually, just on the Canadian front alone, there's some real rockin' chicks! You might wanna check out this band 13 Stone. Real rawkin' chick singer. Not really sure what you're looking for, like more in the vein of Heart (classic rock) or Distillers (punk rock)? Lee Aaron was the all time metal queen (in the 80s but now she is more jazz). Weird huh?

| Female singers in hard rock/metal. Posted: 5/13/2006 1:37:32 AM | Not really metal, but have you tried listening to Amy Lee of Evanescence? Great rock tunes, amazing ballads, she's a trained opera singer apparently! Check them out!!!!!!!!!!!!

| Female singers in hard rock/metal. Posted: 5/13/2006 9:47:44 PM | Lee Aaron has quit singing rock and now has a career as a jazz singer. She was one of the best female hard-rock singers around.
Also: Lita Ford, Darby Mills of the Headpins, Doro Pesch (not sure on that spelling) of the band Warlock Holly Woods of the band Toronto Joan Jett the band Vixen, can't think of the singer's name right now,

| Female singers in hard rock/metal. Posted: 5/14/2006 10:10:50 PM | ive been turned on to a new band called Benedictum (new cd Uncreation), who have an awesome leathery voiced singer who cites dio as an influence and their cd has two covers of dio on it....
http://www.strange-highways.com/ is my metal page where i mention them
but as far as others go -
lita ford joan jett suzi quattro angela from archenemy (tho some mightnt like the death metal style vocals) nightwish are a bit too operatic for me vocal wise
ive yet to find the female equivalent of a Rob Halford yet in metal!

Must have watched the movie Light of Day a hundred times with her and Micheal J Fox . Patti Smith wrote the first punk song in 1975. Vixen Ann Boleyn Doro Amy Lee Kittie London Ontario

| Female singers in hard rock/metal. Posted: 5/15/2006 2:15:34 PM | i would have to say that Lee Aaron has the best set of pipes in rock music. it is a shame that you being from the states have not heard of her, or should that be it is a shame she did not get promoted better to the stateside record buyers at any rate, in my opinion, she is the best... Tsorath mentioned a number of good bands as well... he did forget to mention that Cherie Currie was the lead singer for the runaways as well | |
