| Annoying phrases Posted: 5/13/2006 11:17:51 AM | There are two annoying phrases that bug the CRAP out of me.
1. coolcool (yes, said together.)
2. right on
Right on literally makes my blood pressure boil. There of course is a reason it bothers me so much. I had agreed to a blind date from someone online. He knew what I looked like, I didn't know what he looked like. We had talked on the phone a few times and every other phrase was, right on. Anyway...we made plans to meet. He did bring me a rose. :-) (Yes, still have it.) At that point I should have run back and called it the perfect date. No such luck. Now, my first problem with him is he said he'd be wearing a green shirt. Like this only he wasn't jumpy or that happy. No, it was more like a gray-green with some kind of godawful print on it. So then we go to the movie. He asked me what kind of licorice I wanted. I said black. He couldn't remember which flavor, so he bought both (he purchased them earlier at WalMart). He parks about a mile away from the theatre. We finally get inside...then he realizes that he forgot the licorice...and insisted that I walk with him back to the car to get the licorice...(I guess so I couldn't run away which I was tempted to at this point.) Rest of the movie was fine...but we were going to the casino...and we still had the rose...didn't want anyone to steal the rose...so he puts it in the trunk. Because we all know that people will break into cars to steal roses. (It does get better BTW.) We go into eat. My best friend at the time was the waitress. She brought us our food and everything. While waiting for our bill, he notices that the placemat has rules for games on it and thinks it might come in handy. So instead of asking me to get my friend to get a new one, he takes the one that is dirty and puts in his back pocket.
I'll never forget that night...that's for sure. And that's why I hate the phrase right on.

| Annoying phrases Posted: 5/13/2006 11:50:36 AM | I say eh a lot. A lot of people think it is a Nova Scotian or Maritime thing, but I had never heard it so much till I moved to Toronto. Now I say it a lot... I never say it in the way that Phoenix Raine referred to tho. I more use it in questions- It'sa cold out tonight eh
The phrases that bother me are things I'm hearing here and am trying so hard to NOT pick up. - That was some good. HUH??? Ya ok that was good. No some about it. lol - That was real good. HUh- I'll repeat it properly ONLY to enforce the proper way for ME- Yeah that was really good.

| Annoying phrases Posted: 5/13/2006 1:08:35 PM | | Well something that annoys the hell out of me is "somewhereS" or "anywhereS". Every second person I talk to since moving here adds an S. It drives me bonkers. | |

The words annoy me, not the people
The people annoy me not the words. I say "Eh" too.
The only one I can think and I actually say but more to make fun of those ones who originally were saying it is, "Buh Bye"

|
| Annoying phrases Posted: 5/13/2006 1:47:55 PM | I used to have a bad habit of saying "no problem" in response to "thank you". I had to make a conscious effort to say "you're welcome" instead. Not as tough as quitting smoking (hang in there, btw, those of you who are trying ), but not as easy as you might think. Manners are so undervalued, but that's a different rant I guess.
I also wince when I hear "irregardless" and "no, i nevered"
|
| Annoying phrases Posted: 5/13/2006 2:03:35 PM | I can not stand when a person says "doh" .......OMG i wanna poke their eyes out! Or better yet, pull out their tongue! | |

| Annoying phrases Posted: 7/18/2006 5:04:05 PM | Most annoying phrase ever:
"I hate it when people..."
I also say "cool cool" and "right on" all the time. Suck it up :P
|
| Annoying phrases Posted: 7/18/2006 7:55:02 PM | Not so much a phrase as just plain incorrect - people who think "license" is plural. As in "I have my license. I got them when I turned 16."
"Irregardless", as someone else stated above, is also a bone of contention.
I don't mind it when people say "eh" (and Paige, you're right. I heard that more in Ontario & Quebec than here), because I'm guilty of saying "hey" a lot. As in "This is a fun thread, hey?"
|
| Annoying phrases Posted: 7/18/2006 8:11:46 PM | The two most annoying to me are:
1. "No you can't stay the night!!"
2. "Get your hand out of there!!"
There are others that get under my skin, but those two usually drive me bonkers whenever i hear them...

| Annoying phrases Posted: 7/19/2006 6:36:10 AM | "Whateva".......... this one just drives me insane, it's usually accompanied by a side to side finger wave and/or an eye roll, and it provokes me to violently swing a blunt object at said person.
"Don't go there"........ OMFG this one is annoying, it's everywhere!! Make it stop !!
"waaaaazaaaaap!!!" ........... that retarded Budweiser commercial is what, 7 years old now? let it go and please realize you REALLY sound/look like a retard when you say it.
"talk to the hand", person then raises hand, palm out and does this quick look away thing with their head.......... WTF??? It still boggles me how idiotic someone has to be to even come up with this one.

| Annoying phrases Posted: 9/12/2006 8:55:33 PM | | "holla" bugs the crap out of me. The most pathetic thing is how grown women (35-40) will actually use this phrase in profiles. Biggest turn off ever. Seriously, grow up. | |
|
| Annoying phrases Posted: 9/13/2006 3:04:52 AM | I hate any phrase which makes sweeping generalizations about how 35-40 year old women behave.
I also dislike phrases in which bitter, lonely men instruct women to "grow up" because they're so "pathetic".
