| Any Buddhists or Taoists here? Posted: 2/17/2005 6:29:59 PM | Would I call myself Taoist? I guess. Not sure what it means to be Taoist.
Perhaps I'd be best descibed as Taoist-Fascist.

Taoism: Be the uncarved block.

| Any Buddhists or Taoists here? Posted: 2/18/2005 4:32:48 PM | | Well, as some answering this already know (because we bump into each other on other forums), I'm a Christian. However, I am favorable to Zen, Taoism, and Kaballah. And this is for a number of reasons. Zen and Kaballah believe in a form of God as all and all and one and all is one (or a kind of awkward definition of pantheism), and Taoism believes in non-resistance--a thoroughly Christ-like idea as well. So, I guess, besides being a Christian, I also believe in Taoism, Zen, and the Kaballah, but only as each does not conflict with Jesus' teaching (and generally they do not conflict too greatly with his teaching). However, I am more than willing to talk about it with anyone who wants to open pleasant debate. | |

Yeah, that's how I got into Zen Buddhism: martial arts. Before that I never really knew much about it. The mind becomes one with the universe and that is why both the way (Tao & Zen Satori) of understanding and martial arts are so powerful.

Buddhism-attainment of enlightenment through suffering and empting the mind
That is not correct. Buddhism aims to reduce and eliminate suffering. It is known as the middle path because the Buddha rejected the ascetic body-denying methods of enlightenment through suffering.

| Any Buddhists or Taoists here? Posted: 2/19/2005 9:24:56 AM | Basically, I read the Tao and Chuang-Tzu and think about how what is said in there applies to my life.
The Art of War isn't so bad either; it's very Taoist in spirit.
Practice doing non-doing.

| Any Buddhists or Taoists here? Posted: 2/19/2005 6:26:56 PM | hey, Im not buddhist by practice .. I find that Its Impossibel to Live In todays capitail Infected society and Obey The Eight fold Path.. However Philoshopically I beleave that buddism Is very close to what I practice. Congrats to anyone out there who Is beleaving In anything regardless Of Obsticels towards their understanding. And congrats to anyone who Is accepting And understanding that we all must suffer, And we all must heal.
Enlightenment cannot be Attained Untill Suffering Is realized Universally. This is not a state of mind, but a sense of self. Not untill you have lost everything are you truly free to know anything.
HERE IS WHAT I KNOW
Keep The fight Going with out striking your opponent Or blocking his advance.
what you own will only end up owning you
War. Boycott it openly and loudly
Karma. Plant the seeds And see what grows. It may be you.
Charity. give Untill you can give With out bragging or even feeling good about it. then give some more.
Meditaion, Find somthing that feels good, clears your mind of all distractions and allows you to see all the details You missed along the way.
Life, Try everything twice
Death. ?????????
Thanks for reading. | |

| Any Buddhists or Taoists here? Posted: 2/19/2005 6:29:08 PM | The Buddha felt that God's were irrelevant to ones spiritual advancement.
If forced to define my "religious beliefs" I would describe myself as a Tao-Buddist. I don't believe in re-incarnation, but I do believe in rebirth.

| Any Buddhists or Taoists here? Posted: 2/21/2005 10:54:09 PM | | I'm still learning more about Zen Buddhism and more about my husband's lineage in Cherokee Indian beliefs. So currently I can't say as I'm one way or the other as both seem to complement in a lot of their beliefs about what Spirit is. | |
