| What lengths would you go to for your kids? Posted: 5/17/2006 9:00:15 PM | I haven't rode a bicycle since I was 16. For the boys I did the whole 'run beside them and let go' teach them how to ride bit when they were about 4. My daughter is 5 now, and very attached to her training wheels. No amount of coaxing and encouragement can talk her out of them. She insists that if I ride with her she might think about letting me take them off. So, today I found a used bike and carted it home. How much harm can an old out of shape Granny do when you're wandering along beside a 5 year old with training wheels, right?
OMG!!! I think I must have been suicidal when I came up with that bright idea!

I love being involved in their lives, they're totally my whole world, granted once my baby is a little older I'll start doing things for "me" then.

I know exactly what you mean. My so-to-be 6 yr old is extremely attached to his training wheels. He's realized I have a bike (very old, very hot pink and very flat tires, but still usable)... he's "decided" that I should ride my bike with him... and IF I do, then he'll be happy to let go of his training wheels.... I havent been on a bike since i was around 12 or so... this should be interesting.

Posted: 5/17/2006 11:27:03 PM | my daughter is just three and this past winter took her ice skating on an outdoor rink, i dont skate cuz my butt really likes the ice, but she took to it like a fish to water, needless to say she wanted to go everyday,,,,,i on the other hand was quite happy sittin on the sidelines watchin her but she was to scared so mommy had to skate with her....i think she just wanted me out there to watch me fall...but we spent every possible day we could out on the rink, her skating, me fallin on my butt and her pointing and laughin at me... sadly will do it all over again (gratefully) this coming winter too

I told my 6 soon-to-be-7 year old daughter that if she doesnt ride on two wheels by the time we're moving, we're not taking her bike LOL of course I dont mean it, but she NEEDS to learn at some point!

He was about six and a half when they came off entirely, a bit later than some of the other kids…
As for the lengths I'd go for him - let me count the kilometres! Endless schlepping, as you know.

...#1 cause dad said... "Andrea...if you don't start peddlin harder I'm gonna let go..."
#2... Our neighbours front yard was lined with their precious hedges that were maticulously manicured... and all the kids on the street feared losing the ball in them...let alone...ride their bike past them where the hill started to get steeper..not to mention a curb at the end of the sharp corner!!
#3... My Neighbour Susan had the exact same bike as me...she was several months older then me... but all the other kids said.. "well..susan can ride her bike down the hill...why can't you??
& FINALLY....#4... My Sister who is 13 months younger then me, use to taunt me...because she had no fear for speed or riding her bike...even though she was always the one that crashed and had to get stitches or go to the hosptial... she lived for the moment to watch me "try" and ride down the hill...or god forbid drive down the hill and up our driveway, past the railway ties... and successfuly dismount before the parked precious Valiant!!
Guess I was the kid on the street that was a sucker ...got sucked in a few times ...cause all I wanted to be able to do ....was ride my bike....super fast...around the corner... to snag the Dyckee Dee Man...before anyone else did!! ...and yes of course ...with out the training wheels!! LMAO
EDIT- IRONIC THAT RIGHT NOW I'M LISTENING TO DAVE LETTERMAN'S TOP TEN LIST...AND ALL I HAVE ARE MY TOP 4 FOR RIDING MY BIKE WITH TRAINING WHEELS~!!!! ROFL

| What lengths would you go to for your kids? Posted: 5/18/2006 12:00:30 AM | Great lengths. There is no end to what I would do for my kids. Of course, they are way past the training wheels. Now I do all sorts of other things for them.
Yep, that is when I restarted riding a bike, still do it...have pulled my grandson around in a trailer behind my bike.
Have ice skated until I thought my ankles would explode...havent done that one again for years.
Anything I can do to make their journey brighter.....I am there.

Yep.......I worked graveyard for 5 years, so that I could be home in the daytime to homeschool my ADHD/learning disabled child (school was a nightmare for him)! Was it worth all the blood, sweat and tears......you bet, got the most beautiful handwritten letter on Mother's Day from my now 19 year old son, thanking me for all the sacrifices I made to support him (and I thought he didn't notice.....lol).

Whatever happens in life.. thats a part of me, my blood sweat and tears. I would go to every edge of the earth to make them smile. There is only one rule... You can @* with me but don't @* with my family!
