(Said to yours truly in a 'nother thread...I'm assuming fer sayin' the word "shit" twice)
Ummmm.....why wouldn't I? Is part of who I am (my potty mouth, that is), & IMO censorin' meself would amount to a misrepresentation that would be spotted w/in 2 minnits if/when I met anyone in the flesh. And isn't the ultimate goal on a dating site to meet ppls fer real (Whether ya be lookin' fer friends, lovers, quickies, or whatever)? So why would one want to be on continuous "best behavior" here when their faults/ flaws/ quirks are gonna come out later anyway?
I'm not sayin' that my Online Persona is the "real me" ('cuz it ent), but it IS close....sorta. Is kinda like the whole picture fiasco....lotsa ppl feel (meself included) that a pic of their favert cat, car, superhero, or whatever can represent their personality as well as or better than a pic of themselves, yet on the other side of the coin others may see it as tryin' to hide sumpin'.
So what do y'all figger? Are "Online Personas" good or bad? Or do they really matter at all in the long run? Is meetin' online any differnt than meetin' 1st in RL when one starts out on best behavior to accentuate their "good points"?
***Note; This post ent intended as a jab at the author of the original quote up there ^^^ , but I figgered it fit the theme & I din' wanna hijack the thread it came from.

| Online personas Posted: 5/20/2006 3:39:57 PM | No matter if it's online or RL...there are some people who are "real" and some who are Beyond fake...LOL
Those that have met me in RL all say they new I'd act the way I do just from how I talk online. I don't see the point in trying to be something you just aren't. I am who I am...ALL the time. I've even told potential bosses during interviews "I'm bad for learning my job real well and then correcting my bosses...just to give fair warning." Been hired everytime too LOL I believe in honesty..just the way I am.

Anyway ... back on topic. I figure if POF thought shit was a bad word then it would look like this **** much like the word fuck does (before a quick lil edit ;).

You don't have to spell it fcuk anymore, you can use **** now.
I am who I am, online and offline. A little quiet at times but mouthy as **** when need be.
Anyone who knows me, knows that!
Piss with my family or friends and deal with me.
Pretty simple.

(Said to yours truly in a 'nother thread...I'm assuming fer sayin' the word "shit" twice) Yeah, I saw that. I'm impressed and glad that you had the self-control to deal with it like this as so many other threads are hijacked. Maybe all this self-control evens up for your weakness for tiny cigarettes, alcohol, strange women, skittish cats, dopey-looking dogs, old pickup trucks, playing the guitar late at night...*
Question: Does the fact that I'm actually a 14 year old Jewish girl from Yonkers, New York make me a phony persona? I mean, the guys from Edmonchuk that I pay to go on the dates are usually a pretty good physical match to the attributes listed on my profile. Sure, I've been told that sometimes they're cads who make drunken, clumsy, heavy-handed lunges for the breasts - but this doesn't seem to be out of the ordinary for internet dating.

| Tanline personas Posted: 5/21/2006 12:29:35 PM | There have been few surprises from the people I've met from POF. It's mostly a WYSIWYG sort of thing, with a few marked exceptions.
I never see any point in outright pretending as isn't the point of a dating site to actually meet people? We all hide a bit from behind the computer screen as there's just no way to put it all out there electronically. D, you're a nice bunch of gals! I like all your personalities. Just like me, I like all of mine too, well except the b1tchy one (she gets on my nerves).
Yonkers Girl: You have to pay them? Wow. Usually they'll grope for free and while sober. So I've heard. *cough*

| Online personas Posted: 5/22/2006 1:51:06 PM | @ Greeneyes: Tanline personas...LOL!
Aw, FB...not offensive ta me! And I agree...if the whole point is dating, why work so hard at hiding the warts/gilding the lilly that ppl don't recognize you in person? Makes no sense to me...why not give ppl a glimpse of your real personality & sense of humor? You kinda weed out the ones that wouldn't be a good fit that way, don'tcha think?
Online personas that lie = bad, online personas that approach the truth = valuable dating tool. IMHO.
