At the moment a number of different rules apply to knives, and while it's not always clear what is legal and what isn't, some things are.
It is illegal for any shop to sell a knife to anyone under the age of 16, although some kinds of knives aren't covered by this law.
Knives where the blade folds into the handle, like a Swiss Army knife, aren't illegal as long as the blade is shorter than three inches.
These knives are illegal:
Flick knives - knives where the blade is hidden inside the handle and shoots out when a button is pressed. These are also called switchblades or automatic knives.
Butterfly knives - knives where the blade is hidden inside a handle that splits in two around it, like wings. The handles swing around the blade to open or close it.
Disguised knives - knives where the blade is hidden inside something like a belt buckle or a fake mobile phone.

But apart from general tomfoolery and robbing, the Scouse are cheeky chappies who wouldn't hurt a fly.
I didn't think they knived people in Scotland.. according to Irvine Welsh in his description of youth culture of Leith, Edinburgh, the usual form of metal related injuries were caused by a process of "chibbing".. | |

How much crime is not on those statistics, how bad has it got to become before they take actions that fix it all, or will it be far too late then. | |

Posted: 5/23/2006 7:35:40 AM | interesting point reading the article through is that the cities mentioned have all got big university complexes and large hospitals; most ot the crimes reported in terms of burgalaries and thefts come from students; stolen laptops mobiles etc.
That being said though nottingham is clearly the gun crime capital/
question i'd like answering is more to do with who are the main perpetrators of these attacks.
there seems to be an endless stream of reports in the press of gang wars in these particular cities of caribbean, african vs Asian and indian factions. and there does seem to be a broad base of these cultural mixes in these cities.

the 'peeps dont bother reporting the crime cos they know the plods are not interested (no offence buffy)

Well middlesbrough is only a town so does not qualify as these are cities.
Also it may have been the case years ago, but ever since they introcduced the zero tolerance policy there, the crime has decreased astonishingly.
the town still needs some major urban re-development but its getting there
probably the reason manchester, Liverpool birmingham arent listed is they are nor designated as cities, more metropolitan districts | |

Posted: 5/23/2006 9:16:25 AM | I guess you got me on a technicality with that one. Middlesbrough council has applied many times for city status. The place is also large enough to be a city but if your going to be like that i accept your point.
I dont think your actually qualified to talk about the state of middlesbroughs streets. I lived their for two years(recently) and saw some nasty stuff. I got assaulted three times,someone tried to rape my girlfriend,burgled three times,five attempted thefts on my car and smack heads killed my beloved pet cat..............so do me a favour mate and dont talk bout what you dont know about.
It has a well known prostitution problem and a smack epidemic.
So shove your zero tolerence comment where the sun dont shine.
As for my comments about Liverpool and manchester................that was just light hearted comments. I guess you cant write infactual light hearted comments when serious debating is going on. | |

I know more about middlesbrough, its history of crime and its improvement in recent years than you will ever know, ask my colleagyue Mr Mallon.
Yr statistics are disturbing, but unfortunately for you, not representative of the current status of the town, I can only surmise you are living in one of the pockets of crime that all towns possess irrespective of zero tolerance policing; South Bank? cargo Fleet, near the Bongo Club?? | |

that was a tad harsh but i dont think people should belive all they read regarding zero tolerance and robo cop ray mallon.I also dont think people should believe crime stats either as the police will no doubt fiddle them. Middlesbrough had great crime stats for a few years cos Mallon was bribing smack heads with bags of heroin...........he was bribing them so they would inform the police who were the big fish..............thats why the crime stats looked good. Middlesbrough police are corrupt as hell.
Im going to leave these forums to the people that really know what they are talking about.............like Captain.Im sure he has spent lots of time in middlesbrough been a londoner. | |
