Other than Star Wars since it is quite popular...

In your opinion, what is the best Sci-Fi movie ever made...

LOTR is not sci/fi. Try Fantasy.

2001 A Space Odyssey
Blade Runner
Ray Harryhausen's Movies
The Fifth Element
All The "Alien" Movies
The Matrix/Animatrix
The Incredible Shrinking Man
Close Encounters Of The Third Kind
The Cube
Dark City
Contact
The Day the Earth Stood Still
TRON
Planet Of The Apes (Old Version)
Event Horizon

I could go on for days......love my sci/fi

One that recently surprised me that I saw in the theatres was Serenity... I like the idea of it and the plot wasn't bad...

plech, hated it. If I see one more movie with an ass kicking woman I'm gonna hurl. Ass kicking movies in general aren't my thing unless the story and effects are top notch.

My fav would have to be Blade Runner, and the definitive Directors Cut with all the behind the scenes stuff is coming out on High Def DVD in September. WOOT!

Rutger Hauer and Harrison Ford were awesome...

I did like that movie... but I did hate Tron, seen it time and time again and I still hate it...

Yeah, the story line was bogus, but it's pretty much what got me into CG. It was all about the visuals. Back then when I was a kid it was the shit. I see it now and the sounds and visuals bring back happy nerdy memories.

Is X-Men considered sci-fi? If so I'd vote for them as the best trilogy so far.

IMHO, yeah, it's in the sci/fi catagory. I'm hoping the new one is a tad better than the last ones.

I enjoyed those flicks, especially the last one...

Blade definately...
The Fly (1 and 2)*
Forbidden Planet
Gattaca
Independence Day
1978 Invasion Of The Body Snatchers*
Fantastic Planet
Life Force* just for the sheer cheeze. When i saw this in theaters way back even the guy's were screaming, with laughter.
Men in Black
Starship Troopers
Solaris
Terminator 2

There's a shitload if you start digging.

I sold all my dvd's to get into school. I think i had about 500. 9 out of every 10 were sci/fi.

aal....gotta have the new BG, even tho its on TV. (knew id find a way to get that back in here!)

edit...BG=Battlestar Gallactica!! woo hoo! season finale was kinda sucky tho
