I love watching it, even visited the Arthur Murray Studio once. While I think it's glorious if done well, the one that really gets me is Salsa Dancing! Now, I'd try that!!

Ballroom dancing is fun, but I prefer Latin Dancing (Rumba, Cha-cha, Samba, etc) there are more places you can use these dances at clubs, weddings, parties etc.

Have been taking lessons off and on for the past 6 years with my gf. Really enjoy it and have competed a couple of times.

One thing about ballroom dancing lessons - get ready for a major assault on your wallet!
Don't know how much the teachers make, but the studio is making a KILLING!!

My mom made us take lessons when my brother got engaged so that we'd know how to do the waltz and 'not make a fool of ourselves'. It was really fun. We learned the Waltz, Foxtrot, Mambo, 2-step, a couple line dances. It was good at the time, but now I only remember how to do the waltz, and I can't even do the fun turns and twirls.

I would love to do it again sometime though.

Well I am glad to see some people that enjoy the sport of ballroom dancing. The reality television shows like dancing with the stars and ballroom bootcamp are definitely helping its popularity. Although I stated ballroom dancing, I figure I should have mentioned that I include latin dancing within that because of the lessons I had in 1999 in which I learned anywhere from 1 to 15 steps of beginner's international standard Waltz, Fox Trot, Tango, Rumba, Merengue, Cha-Cha, Samba, Mambo, American Style East Coast Swing, Disco-jive/Hustle/4 Count Swing, The Jive, Viennese Waltz, and Polka.

In addition to those dance I also learned what I am going to call "Sudbury Jive" which seems to be a modification or variation of west coast swing, also I self taught myself how to dance the steps from the movie Dirty Dancing (minus the lifts), because we were doing a modified version of the last scene from that movie for part of a play, as I had at one point taught myself the steps from Grease and Footloose, but I have not tried those in a long time, I would have to watch things over and over again, again. Also in terms of ballroom I have been able to learn some advanced steps watching those reality television programs, but I haven't tried those in a while either.

I have many books on ballroom dancing and would love to get back into it and learn even more dances like the quickstep and lambada for example.

In terms of your request Scarlett63, knowing my luck I could probably find you a partner, but I am still trying to find one myself. It's one of the reasons I stopped dancing. Attempts were made to get a partner, but usually something ruined a perfectly good dancing relationship before it got started (most of the time either they or myself would be interested in the other in more than a dance partner way (usually them actually, which I am/was quite flattered by) and jealousy of significant others would end up playing a factor as well, and I specifically want a dance partenr separate from a girlfriend).

So I guess while I am at it I might as well ask, are there any women on this site, preferably in Sudbury Ontario or within 100 miles of it (so North Bay) and that are at least 5ft 8in in height (without shoes that is), that are interested in ballroom dancing?

Well that's all for now.

Have a nice day.

Don't you think the dancing would be more enjoyable with a partner that you're intimately involved with? I have only taken beginner salsa lessons, and found that the partner that I was learning with was restrictive. He was married, and although he was eager to learn, I could tell he was holding back on the more seductive moves.
I just watched "So You Think You Can Dance" tonight. A great showcase of different dance types. I just love to watch the break dancers, they are incredible! But I am partial to the ballroom dancing. So romantic.

Scarlette,

When dancing with a partner, especially for lating dancing which tend to be dances of romance and seduction it help when you are dancing with someone you are involved with. Although you can still dance with someone well there is not the same kind of emotion and feelings. It is a great feeling dancing seductively with your partner and knowing that everyone is watching the two of you dance and move like that together.

As for So You Think You Can Dance...I find the judges even worse then Simon from American Idol. It is for that reason that I won't watch until they get near the finals and there are some really good dancers where the judges aren't as critical.

I'm looking forward to them bringing back Dance with the Stars. Anyone know when it'll be back?

I like watching it on TV. One of my best people even quit the job she had to go teach this in Ottawa. I found it odd, cause she was the real "tom-boy" type, but looked beautiful in the long gowns, etc. She came to see me dressed up just to show off a bit and offered me a couple free lessons, which, if I'd of been in my right mind, I would have taken her up on. Fool that I was, I didn't. Nice to hold a beautiful woman in your arms for a bit. Most dancing really isn't fun cause it is a "hands off" type thing, b ut ballroom can be a blast. Can't dance much anymore though.
Anyhow's....it is a great art form, takes a bit of co-ordination and stamina at times and is good exercise.

Ballroom dancing is my biggest social outlet. I really enjoy dancing, but I also get to meet a lot of people. Most of the dances I go to are alcohol and smoke free so it's a good safe place to meet. I've also had more luck meeting potential dates at dances than I have online.

My favorite is tango but a lot of people shy away from it. Just knowing the basic waltz, foxtrot, tango, rumba, cha cha, and east coast swing is not that hard to learn. But ballroom is one of those things that is easy to begin and hard to truly master. Not that I'm a Fred Astair or anything but I can get around the floor and lead some more complex moves.

Ballroom is awesome. Smart men take it because there are often more women than men :) Best of all, it's exercise that you do holding people of the opposite gender and you don't even know you're exercising because it's such fun! Now how much better can something get than that?

I love doing ballroom dancing, when a man is good on leading me ...Most of the men have partners/wife /GF on the dance floor so I don't have very much chance on ballroom dance, I do hiphop and contemporary dance moves. I love doing intricate foot work on the dancefloor.

I love dancing of any sort.
Remember, OP the really good dancers get that way by dancing with many different people. If you dance with only one person you tend to get stuck in only knowing how to lead/follow that one person's quirks.

While it never hurts to put it out there, you might have more luck finding a partner on one of the dance partner sites.

I do! I've been hooked on DWTS since its first season. I met a few people here that also dance; and suggested to one guy that we consider taking lessons together in the fall.

oblivion, most of the studios have classes that don't require a date. They rotate the partners.
Not that we need any more ladies.
WHERE ARE ALL THE GUYS?

You don't have to go to studios, either. Look for ballroom dance clubs associated with universities and colleges or classes at rec centres. Once you get talking to people in the non-studio world, you'll find you can attend plenty of classes and events without having to pay through the nose.
