Posted: 3/17/2005 5:32:33 PM | I've dated four black men and loved two of them. Colour seems more important to them than it did to me. I think I can feel some of their sadness or anger at society's racist attitude just in being a woman of my age. Women in their 20's now don't understand as much about prejudice against anyone who isn't white and male and without disabilities. I grew up in a time where, if you weren't married by the time you were 23 then you were practically a "spinster". I'm 46. I'm part of hopefully, the end of an era. Women have come into their own due to education and whether you're black or asian, german or greek, it's the person and that person's integrity that matters.
Is a person more beautiful because they are blonde blue eyed and 23. Is a woman not beautiful at 70. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To see only the colour of skin or the age of a person isn't seeing very far. Each of us has a soul, a spirit. Even judging a person by their income or where they live can block someone out of your life who could bring you lessons and joy that would enhance your life.
I think the reason that I'm attracted in particular to black men is because I enjoy soul music. I have dated lots of men who are caucasian and many prefer rock music, which doesn't stir me. I grew up listening to motown and r and b. Lots of black men seem also to prefer a woman who isn't model thin. Not to say there aren't lots of caucasian men who think the same. lol... the media has us thinking that we need to be flat tummied and large breasted to be beautiful.
Beauty and attraction are personal. It can be the scent of an aftershave. The way he rolls his eyes; the way he takes his mother's arm when they cross a road; or .... the sound he makes when he watches you undo your blouse! lol.. Love should transcend colour and race. If not we would live in a pretty dull world. | |
