Alot of them cert have an attitude problem and god forgive anybody who might
just think there in the rite, but i suppose that's to be expected when you give
somebody a wee bit of power and a uniform.

i can only speak for myself...

i do not have a chip on my shoulder, nor do i abuse the power that i am given. i do the job to the best of my abilities. i try to ensure that i apply fairness to all situations that i find myself in, this is not always possible however. i have endured abuse and violence towards me, simply because i wear a uniform..and still i do all that i can to remain calm and professional, it isnt always easy. i have never struck, pushed or verbally abused a member of the public.

I suppose like a lot of jobs in authority , you get the bad guys along with the good. Some abuse their rights to use their uniform to carry out their frustrations of the day.
But the police have to tolerate more than some others who use a uniform.
And if i had to take some of the abuse the police take on a weekend evening , i too might be hard pushed not to land the odd slap. After all if someone is in your face uniform or not and giving you abuse, swearing etc, some might find it hard not to retaliate.
I know we say it shouldnt be done because they are police officers and should tolerate this, but they are human and have feelings also..and some people can only be pushed so far..
I think we would all be tempted to lash out, push etc someone who was in your face spitting and swearing at you, or generally being abusive..

A few questions about this...

Why were you just watching and not trying to stop the fight in the first place?

Were you and/or your mates drunk?

Were you in the officers way or too close to the fight and perhaps did not hear his request to step back?

Your lack of respect will show and that makes you a point of attention as a potential trouble maker. The men and women who wear that uniform have a hard enough job to do and deserve some respect for doing it, would/could you do it? I would say not since you are happy to watch your mate get into fights.

Like any job some may have a chip on their shoulder but I would say the majority do not. Any contact I have had with the police or other emergency services has always been professional and very well handled.

i wear a uniform, but i am a human being too...

want to know something really funny? if i saw you in trouble and you needed help...i would help..regardless of your disgusting attitude towards me because i wear a uniform.

It just shows the type of person he is Buffy, thankfully not everyone thinks that way. Some of are very grateful for you ladies and gents who are willing to help others in trouble.

Too many people are willing to stand by and watch or carry on walking/driving when someone needs assistance be it because of a crime, illness or accident. I am trying to be hopeful this trend won't continue but I am a pesimist and other when I was in the highlands I have not had a stranger wish me good morning as I pass them in the street for many a year.

Some do, some don't. You can say the same for anyone in any job.

I've had conversations with them many times on Friday/Saturday nights here in the west midlands, even shared a pizza with one very lovely wpc on a very cold winter night

I even brought one a parking ticket for his van, cost me 80p! he found this particularly funny and gave me my 80p back

I also have a friend and ex colleuge, who recently joined the west midlands police. I infact concidered it myself, but my life was in a bit too much of a mess at the time.

Unfortunately there are the odd few who seem to think they are the almighty god, but its no different to someone who gets a promotion at work and turns into a complete a***.

MSB, I will reply to your message here...

1. I never said you were drunk I asked if you or your mate were drunk; notice the question mark at the end of the sentence.

2. What has it being a one on one fight got to do with it? Violence is not the answer there is always an alternative and I sincerely doubt you would get nicked for stopping a fight.

3. I never prejudged about the officer pushing you I was asking for further clarification.

4. I don't stick my nose in, get hit and run as you put it. I am more than capable of defending myself but I also took the trouble to learn how to restrain someone without causing long term injury.

5. You have put a lot of emphasis on your statement 'he was lucky to be a cop', given that you seem to have a predisposition towards watching or participating in violence I would say you are the lucky one in that the officer was able to restrain himself as I guarantee you he knows how to hurt you a lot more than you know how to hurt him.

Finally keep your replies to a thread topic in the thread itself and do not send me abusive messages as I will not partake in such a childish manner. You may also want to take heed to the saying 'It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt'.

I have to say that my experience of the police has on the most part been a positive one, appart from one time where the policemans powers of logic had something to be desired. Yes some have a chip on their shoulder, but as has been said that happens in all walks of life. I have the upmost respect for the police and the job they do. I find the OPs statements disgusting, yes he may have had a bad experience or 2 with a few of the force, but you can't tar them all with the same brush, just think about the job they actually do, I'm sure it takes a strong person to deal with some of the things they have to, I for one couldn't do the job.

OT yes, some police do have an attitude problem, and some are the biggest tossers on the planet. However, some do a remarkably fine job. It takes allsorts.

It does, however, upset me when it is reported that one who died in the course of duty was a respected, dedicated, well-loved copper - it's a shame that those who are complete twats are never those who get killed.

I dont understand some people..... At the end of the day, i work with W*ankers..... but there is no posts that say "Do you think that administrators have chips on their shoulders" or "do people with beards have chips on their shoulders". To be honest, if i were a policeman (hehehe) i would have a massive chip on my shoulder, spending all day dealing with the public and horrible people who rape, kill, attack old people, deal drugs etc i would see the potential problem with most situations... can you imagine what society would be life if police didnt have a "thing" inside their heads that enables them to forsee probable problems!

And shame on the bloke that watched the fight.... i am 5ft3 and a woman and i have, on my life, broken up loads of fights!!!!!

Can I just point out that if someone is in a one-on-one fight, surely it is better to let both parties get on with it? In my experience, if someone goes to help, they normally attack the one who isn't their mate....is that fair? Especially if your mate was the aggressor.

Gary, it is possible to break up a fight without 'attacking' either participant. I would not let them get on with it simply because it is not the way to solve a dispute and if my mate was the aggressor then I would restrain them not the person they were attacking. Mind you my friends are not prone to violent outbursts so as yet I have not had to do that to a mate.

Thankfully, Zom, I've never been placed in that position, either, but I know of one or two who have, and have noticed that it is very rare that two people have been seperated without one of them receiving more attention than the other.

However, this is about the police, and the way they conduct themselves.....they are more than capable of starting trouble than anyone else. Remember the poll tax "riot"?

Chips I will show you chips

I was arrested for parking a hot potato wagon outside a football ground one day. to cut a long story short the chief constable of Derbyshire and the chief inspector of Chesterfield(AT THE TIME) tried to arrest me for obstruction- now were not talking about sergeants or constables here were talking about the two most powerful police officers in Derbyshire. HA HA I don’t do things by half lol.
Any way they tried to arrest me and made complete fools of themselves in public in front of 2000 football fans. Chesterfield Midlesborough those of you that were there will remember it. OK long shot but you never know.

The obstruction was that I was parking y van on yellow lines – my defense was yeah but so are the away coaches blab la bla

Anyway we won

As I was leaving the court The chief constable of Derbyshire bent over, coz he was about 6-2 -3 and said ime going to get you for this you little shit.

Every time my car was parked the wrong way around at night I received a penalty ticket even though it was parked under a street light. Total 18 in two months

Total breathalyzers within that period 10

Total pull ups due to malfunction of trailer lights etc, or inspection “at 3am in the morning yeah!!” 15

I was finally caught 14 years ago one Sunday afternoon for drinking And driving I had two pints of cider that’s all and I was over the limit. My fault I shouldn’t have had two pints and drove but there you go 14 years ago and never drove over the limit since.

Anyway I digress.

I was hounded because the local papers made a farce of the case and I beat the unbeatable lol.

Male Police Honest you tell me where the rot begins

NAHHHH!!!!!! I Don’t Think So

There! I have never told anybody that and it’s off my chest so I feel happy now.

Come the REVOLUTION I am having the **stard lol
