Anyone else get visited by the census police?

Yesterday, I got visited by the census police. I answered the door while talking on the phone and she says that there was no census received from this address. I said, well I'm on the phone right now. She continues talking like I never even spoke and says to me Well, could we do it right now. I said no. Well can I come back she says, I said no. I will do it if and when I want to.

She started to read me my "census" obligations and I just shut the door in her face.

Sometimes, I find this country is one of the worse in the world. On one hand they boast how free we are and on the other they are threatening you will jail time if you don't tell them about yourself! Some of the questions on this thing are frankly, invasive and no one's business. How much house work I do per week? What social services exactly is being planned around that?

ARRGGG sometimes, I just want to pack my bags and run for a cabin in the woods far away from the rat race!

housework? I filled my census out online ...took a couple of minutes...and I don't recall any housework questions or anything invasive...I frankly don't understand the problem people have with filling it out....just my opinion.

Yup mine was pretty easy too. So no police at my door.

I would just fill it out online and be done with it. They have been known to prosecute violations of the CENSUS law. Do you really need that kind of headache.

And as far as FREE, infrastructure in the country is not free. With Alberta having the largest growth in migration in the last few years I foresee the province getting a larger slice of budget.

JMHO.

People are required to fill in the census in other countries too. I don't think we could do it online in England. I filled it in but took ages to get around to posting it. Luckily my roommate did it for me. They're are chore but I'm not going to groan about them because I am a procrastinater.

they came to my door too. I was going to do it online but never got around to it. It only took a minute for her to fill it out for me anyway so it wasn't that bad.

Mine was a pain in the butt....the more people in your house, the more info you have to fill in.
Got myine mailed the day it was required to be, which is a miracle since I still have my mom's mother's day card on my kitchen counter....

I just did mine online and it took like 2 minutes!!!! No really weird questions. But I had to call them to get my internet access code, that's what took the longest - was on hold for a few minutes!

Hope you don't get hit with the $500 fine for not allowing them to do a census on you. I think I could have sucked it up and spent the five minutes answering questions to avoid that. I feel sorry for the census people...I'm sure they don't get paid enough to deal with us nice people.

Yep you are leagally bound to compete the census ... and the housework question referred to how much "non-paid" housework do you do in a week ... was in estimated time blocks 9 - 15, 16 - 21, etc ... nothing too invasive there me thinks ... unless you do none at all and feel bad about it

... oh ps ... by not filling out the census they don't get an accurate number of people living in the province ... this therefore leads to a lesser amount of funding etc ... or at least that's what the commercials said when they were advertising the census ... and I know TV wouldn't lie to me HA HA HA

Just returned from England and they do the same thing there. Ditto for Ireland and Spain. We can do it on line - so suck it up and fill out the "F" ing thing.

I am all for the filling out of the census! But I am amazed that there is enough man power to have people tracking down those who didn't fill it out.

Why would you just not say... fill it out and mail it in the postage-paid envelope? 2 seconds.... not hard.

What no one else has pointed out yet is that there are two different census forms. A short one (which I was lucky enough to get ) and long one. Sounds like a couple people on here had the long one which is pages and pages long.....ugh.

I did get the long one - 65 freekin pages. I did break down and fill it in on line under protest. I spent the most time filling out the comment section to make sure they knew just how I felt about it.

I have issues with handing my personal information out to strangers who bang on my door and get rude with me. I have issues with strangers at data entry stations reading my personal information. Isn't anyone else outhere worried about identity theft? Well, I've seen it happen pretty close to home so, I am very concerned about it.

In the big picture, I believe that census information is useful. Making a fine for not doing it - that's not living in a democratic country. Are the census police chasing down the homeless too to ge their stats? Are they going to all the mental hospitals and getting those folks to fill out the forms too?

Maybe they should hang out in front of the food bank to hassle people there too. Or perhaps in the dorms at the universities - do they count as addresses?

I wonder how much of the information is even accurate. The validity of this kind of information is questionable.

I find the whole thing personally invasive. If you want to fill it out, do so. If not, don't. Making it a law is ridiculous. It's interesting that something as mundane as a census is law, but not voting is not. I don't seem to remember any voting police showing up at my door or any threats of a fine. Isn't voting a gov in more important than counting heads?

why not so it the way they did a century ago.....go door to door, ask who is the head of the household and what they do for a living, who else lives there and what they do and the ages.

Nice and simple.

BTW off topic, i had an awesome time last night, PH....Alexander is still making my heart flutter!

Too bad he could not have been at my front door with the census! Mind you, it would have taken a long time to fill out the form
