| | FORUMS: Why can I not post to the forums - 1Page 1 of 5 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) | why can i not post sometimes and can others?
Common reasons for your post not showing up are:
- With the exception of this forum, ALL new member accounts must wait 3 days - even if you were a past user of the site but have since created a new account.
- You may have been inadvertantly logged out of the forums - log back in if necessary.
- You may have been put on a limit of 5 or 10 posts within the last 24 hour clock due to past multiple forum infractions or simply due to a non contributory posting style. Your account will be reviewed in the next several weeks.
- There is 4-5 second delay before the post shows up.
- The thread might be locked/ check the subject line or the last few posts for a note to that effect.
- The thread might be locked but it wasn't noted in the subject line.
- You're posting to the ASK A______ forums where the limit of 20 replies per thread has been reached.
- You're posting special characters like an "@" sign.
- Unknown or not divulged Restricted SPAM website filters.
- You're attempting your 3rd post within the last 10 consecutive posts with very little to say to add to the discussion - as a courtesy give others a chance to interject rather than trying to monopolize the discussion. If you have a substantial amount to add, then the post may go through, otherwise if it's just a short off topic, nothing relevant to add to the discusion post, it will not go through. This applies to all in the thread. Don't ask what the threshold for text length in order for the 3rd post to go through is, as it's not puiblished and Mods will not know either.
- You're hitting the cancel button rather than the post button, they're right next to each other.
- It may have been in the process of being deleted by a moderator (Post or Thread) or the Posting Community (thread only) if it was contrary to the Acceptable Use & Posting Rules or the Posting Guidelines.
- You did not meet the site wide 13 character minimum limit or personal imposed text limits.
- In extreme cases, where you’re dead positive it’s none of the above, a posting account can become corrupted – try the following:
- Logoff from both your POF Mail account and the POF Forums via the log out links – don’t just shut your browser down
- Delete your cookies and temporary internet files from your browser. If you don’t know how, check the following links from this Google Search List for your specific browser
- Re-boot your PC
- Log back on to your POF mail account and change your password
- Log into forums with your same UserID and new password and try posting again.
- If the above still doesn’t do it – repeat the same steps and also change your username (but then login to forums with your new ID and new PW
- If that still fails to produce results and you don’t want to change your username, the possibility lies that your browser may be hijacked by malicious Spywear picked up elsewhere – try a different browser to confirm this possibility by being able to subsequently post
- If all the above fail – you will have to possibly delete your existing account FIRST and then recreate a new one.

| Y can i not post Posted: 6/16/2006 6:15:33 PM | I don't know about anybody else, but when the "post" function "stalls", ...I just hit "back" on my browser, and then "forward" and click on "post" again.
Et voila!
This always works for me, if the "posting" "stalls".
EDIT: Had to do it for this post.

| Y can i not post Posted: 8/24/2006 1:04:22 PM | my gf just joined and cannot post does she have to wait 3 days to post even if its not a new thread?
There is no specific exclusion for G/F's - all new accounts means ALL new accounts
|
| Y can i not post Posted: 8/24/2006 2:26:03 PM | | yep 3 days for newbies... so they can read the forums and get hang of how they work and the rules. | |
|
| Y can i not post Posted: 10/6/2006 3:31:08 PM | | i don't agree with the more than 2 posts within the last 10, with little to say. i have been here for almost 2 years and i never have a lot to say. i keep my responses short and to the point. i had more than one person talking to me, so it could be possible that i would respond more than 2 times. so if i had 3 people talking to me, i can only answer 2 of them that makes no sense to me. | |
|
| Y can i not post Posted: 10/6/2006 3:34:06 PM |
so if i had 3 people talking to me, i can only answer 2 of them that makes no sense to me. This was instituted by ADMIN to curb monopolization of the thread by one user.
Simply gather your thoughts to as many other posts as you wish, quote each member you are replying to, and answer all of them in one post
Problem solved. Many people have adopted this style.

| Y can i not post Posted: 10/6/2006 7:18:41 PM | Its not fair. i have the same problem. If I have something to say I would like to post it but I guess these people have other ideas. Pat | |

Its not fair. i have the same problem.
Same solution applies to you - "read" one post above yours.
Addtionally from the Forum Rules Specific, first thread in every forum:
F) Any Thread that has More Than (2) Two consecutive Messages by Only (1) One single Individual within a 24 hour Period, will have their excess posted messages deleted unless they are corrective Edit-Action posts. (This is also known as "Sequential Replies", or posting (2) Two Replies in a Row. Please allow Others to Reply before you post again.)
too frequently we we're seeing multiple sequential replies, and not just 2, monopolizing an entire page, it gets somewhat disjointed watching someone replying to 4 and 5 other posters in a row without allowing others to interject.
Use of the quoting feature allows you to gather your thoughts and make one nice concise answer addressing more than one poster.
If you don't know how to use the quoting feature, click here --> HTML Help, Bolding, Quoting etc..

| Y can i not post Posted: 10/8/2006 12:10:22 PM | Hi, I read your rules and regulations on posting, but I still don't understand why my new forum kept deleted. I did not use any bad, nasty, or non-sense words in my forum, I just asked if anyone can tell me where I can meet an other female friend without going into the bars scene? Thanks
See the section with respect to Contact Broadcasting yourself in the forums --> Acceptable Use & Posting Rules - If you wish to meet friends, use your search function to find suitable matches or attend one of your local events by visiting the Events Thread in your local forum - Forum Moderator

| Y can i not post Posted: 10/9/2006 10:39:59 AM | | That one would have been deleted by the public for redundancy. It has been addressed many times before. Use the "Search" option and you will find plenty of answers to your question. | |

| Y can i not post Posted: 10/14/2006 1:44:29 PM | I can "post" just fine, the problem is my post doesn't appear - Why ?
I tried hitting the POST/Reply button on the first post in the thread I want to participate in. When I was done I hit the POST button. My screen refreshed to the last page of the thread but my post wasn't there. Then I tried same steps but posting to the LAST post in the thread. Same result.
I'm gonna see if this one shows up ?????
The thread I was trying to post to isn't locked. I'd hate to look like an idiot, if suddenly all my repeated attemps to post showed up at once - jeesh
|
| Y can i not post Posted: 10/14/2006 2:26:30 PM | There's a minimum of 13 characters to post. Don't use the @ sign. | |
|
| Y can i not post Posted: 12/27/2006 9:31:42 PM | that is exactly what happened to me. I posted regarding a very embarrasing date that included a huge piece of meat and choking and heimlich manuever. I clicked on the post button.. it seemed to have accepted it, but it never showed up. I am new to this site and not sure what I am doing wrong. Of course if I am doing something wrong what am I wasting my time typing this when it likely won't show up either.

| Y can i not post, Posted: 2/14/2007 10:42:41 AM | bman -
first do a thread search using likely key words, to see if your question has been asked before. if it has, add your comment/question to that thread.
if not, start a new thread. go to the all forums page. pick the appropriate forum for your question. at the top left corner is a button that says "new thread". click it. then post your question, making sure to use a descriptive heading that summarizes your specific question.
check out this FAQ first.

| Y can i not post Posted: 2/28/2007 1:48:23 AM | I love the fact that 3 days must pass before I may post in the forums, It's so hard to figure out how to click on links and browse through the different sections. I don't think I could figure it out without these upcoming days.
I really hope there is better reasoning to why 3 days must pass, of course I'm not shelling out any cash so I've(we've) no right to complain.
IMO a better cover story for the 3 days would be to fish out the 'unsavory'. As for me though, all joking aside. It's their rule, and of course I've no quarrel with the rule makers. I would like to know why this is the case though, unless the previous post about learning the site is true of course. Either way, I will see everyone in 3 days (well its more like you will see me)

| Y can i not post Posted: 2/28/2007 2:49:14 PM | | Ok I have the same problem. I write a post, decent length, no funny symbols, no rude words etc...I click post (def not cancel) sometimes it shows up sometimes it doesn't.....strange... | |
|
| Y can i not post Posted: 2/28/2007 11:06:54 PM | I have one last suggestion and then I will be quiet until my probation is up ;)
I've noticed that the issue of people asking this question might be solved with a small line in their Mail/Profile area, could be a countdown timer letting them know when they can post. I know you guys are suuuuper busy, and this is just a suggestion, my way of trying to relieve you of some of the more redundant threads/posts.
Also I do realize that some 'surfers' lack in the reading of instructions etc, and most likely will miss the said timer. But hey if it stops 1 out of 10, thats one less hassle for you guys/gals ;)
Anyways, great site, super thanks for the freeness of it all. And I can't wait to jump in (cept mom always told me it was only 30 minutes before I could go swimming). However, since 3 days sounds like thirties. I suppose I can let it slide . . . . this time :)

| Y can i not post Posted: 3/1/2007 4:04:40 AM | I figured my problem out by a process of elimination (my HUH was posted in another thread on same subject here few days ago)
I wrote a lengthy post. No cancel button. No thread problems. Seemed to go through but wasnt there.
Grrr and frustrating. I removed all kinds of things...then removed an @ character in the middle of the word d@yum. And it went through.
Now I see THIS thread (that I didnt find initially on a thread search) and there's Brawny saying - Dont use the @ character. (now I see it, NOW I see it lol)
If the @ symbol is in your post..it wont go at all. (idiot here who tried about 8 times before she figured it out)
Mods: I had a bit of a look on this and couldnt find forbidden characters. Now I know there is one, and understandable because its related to people trying to post their (or others) email addies, is there a place we can see a list of them so we dont have to come here and bug you when it happens?
And if there is. Advance apologies to Trapped who took the time to answer my post on that thread.

| Y can i not post Posted: 3/1/2007 12:08:28 PM | I'm getting a message saying I can't post because I've had two posts out of the last ten... which is fine... but there's at least one other guy who has 3 posts out of the last ten. We aren't 'chatting' to each other... and all our posts have been on topic and of decent length... I'm wondering what the difference might be?

The first post in the appropriate thread has a moderator response in blue and states:
Post something with substance, other than just one, two, three etc. word replies, then the filter will allow you more than 2 out of the last 10. if you need to respond to a lot of posters at once, gather your thoughts, quote each member you are replying to, and answer both, or as many as you wish in one post, - problem solved. Many people have already adopted this style, even before the-filter was put in place. / Moderator -
I'll even bold and underline the key phrase above ...
PS. The appropriate thread being --> FAQ - Limit of No More than 2 Posts in last 10 Sequential Posts
