| GOD, i must be getting old... Posted: 6/17/2006 8:38:05 PM | | Ok, the other day i slipped up and while talking to my kids asked them if they wanted to go to manisphere this year, lol. I still remember when it was called that. Are there any others that anyone remembers?, blast from the past kind of things, that makes the younger crowd go WHAT?. lets take a stroll down memory lane shall we?... | |

My sister took my daughter to the movie last night for her birthday and I happended to say something along the lines of "Aunty's taking you to the show?" My daughter looked at me like I had just spoken french. "What's the show?".

| GOD, i must be getting old... Posted: 6/17/2006 10:57:15 PM | I just crossed the forty year marker and I used to refer to the ex as Manisphere.
I grew up just across the river from Polo Park and we used to walk over the train bridge every night to go to Manisphere. Those were the good old days...show up at 11pm and get in for free.
Darn...now I have a HUGE craving for those little donuts....argh!

| GOD, i must be getting old... Posted: 6/17/2006 11:09:58 PM | | anyone else have any blasts from the past?... things that we knew then that kids look at as now and go "huh"? | |
|
| GOD, i must be getting old... Posted: 6/17/2006 11:25:22 PM | This is more a sign of the times than a blast from the past, but I did find it funny.
One day, I walked up to the TV and pushed the power button to turn it on.
My daughter gave me the saucer eyes and asks "How did you do that?"
She had no clue that you could control the TV, never mind turn it on without the remote control.
At this point, I was SO tempted to break into that skit from Monty Python. "When I was a kid, we walked 10 miles to school barefoot...uphill both ways.."

| GOD, i must be getting old... Posted: 6/17/2006 11:41:11 PM | | remember the rabbit ears on the top of the T.V.?, where we had to go up and stand there moving the little antennas every which way?. my kids dont believe me :) | |

| GOD, i must be getting old... Posted: 6/18/2006 1:11:31 AM | | I remember Manishere as well. I find that people look at me strange when I say "Lets get some Champs chicken". For those that dont know what I'm talking about, Champs owned the right to KFC back in the day. There stores used to be called Champ's Kentucky Fried chicken. | |

| GOD, i must be getting old... Posted: 6/18/2006 2:07:03 AM | OMG. im not even that old and i remember those bunny ears. and fighting over who was gonna go adjust them next. AND! i remember the first "remote control"... you know the one... with the wire leading from the controller to the tv. i also remember our first microwave oven, so i actually remember the days when you reheated leftovers on the stove. how about the atari? or the commador 64? back in the day wken if you wanted to play a computer game, you used a FLOPPY disK instead of a disC and had to use DOS commands to get it running.
i also remember my grandparents place, out in the country... no indoor plumbing and having to run out to the out house in the middle of the night. i'm telling you, as a little kid, in the middle of nowhere... you held it till you damn near peed the bed before you ventured out alone!! and the old wood stove!! damn, them mornings were cold! you'd go to bed with flannels and wolly socks on and nearly sweating to death and wake up shivering with even your head pulled under the covers. grandma also had one of them old washing machines... the kind you wheeled out to the kitchen and hooked it up to the sink. i think she still has the old laundry lines strung up out back.
*sigh* ah, the good old days... the utter lack of the technology that was supposed to give us more spare time... yet them adults always seemed to have more spare time back then... waiting at least a week before getting a business reply (in the mail), and therefore not being able to move ahead on the project until then... for example.

| GOD, i must be getting old... Posted: 6/18/2006 6:05:28 AM | | I felt really old about 5 years ago when I mentioned the name "Lorne Greene" to a girl I was dating. She was about 8 years younger and she asked,"Who's Lorne Greene?" I went right home and checked for gray hairs. | |

| GOD, i must be getting old... Posted: 6/18/2006 6:11:51 AM | | LOL shadows, thats funny.. what about the pet rock?, or remember 8 tracks?, where you had to wait for the whole stupid track to finish before you could hear your song again?... I remember my first computer with a hard drive in it... it was 40MB!! and i thought "wow, i will never fill this thing up".. Remember when we we used to get 3 stupid channels on the t.v? CBC, CKY and CKND? and saturday mornings were the best because that was the only time that cartoons came on?... | |
