the guy is 48 and still ROCKS! the modern day Mozart- plays over 20 instruments, ROCKS on guitar, is a composer, arranger, producer... u name it, he can do it, and do it so well. There was, and never will be another talent like him. anyone else digs Prince?

If so, which Prince do u dig (since he is so versatile and his music so diverse)? me, I like the funk-rock guitar shredding Prince (Lets Go Crazy, Bambi, Computer Blue, I Can Never Take The Place Of Your Man)... followed closely by the electro-funk Prince (When Doves Cry, Lady Cab Driver, Controversy, Dirty Mind). I hate the R&B Prince tho (Emancipation... WTF was that?)... although he's got some sweet soulful ballads, but some of the more hip-hoppy R&B stuff he did in the mid 90s were just crap.

I love this guy...seen him over 12 times... but I fear he peaked with Sign Of The Times...anything post Revolution, he jumped the shark. My favorite era was somewhere in between Dirty Mind and 1999 (including all the side projects).
The 'Nu-Jazz/R&B stuff'is too antiseptic sounding which bores me to

I'm not a real big fan but I respect him for what he does. Damn good guitarist, when he chooses to pick it up. I heard he has hundreds of completed songs in a vault. He just creates and creates. Videos, movies everything. Tons of stuff that will never see the light of day.

Prince? Now, you're talking! I love him; he's a self-taught musical genius. Some of my favorites are: If I Were Your Girlfriend, Adore, and the whole Purple Rain Album.

I liked his Purple Rain album. But it is hard to keep up with his output of music, though.

i'd have to say that "lady cab driver" has got to be one of my most favorite songs of all time. prince is definitely a musical genius, but from what i've read, he doesn't seem to be that stable.

The man rules. I love the fact that he skipped the whole record industry in his last release. I also think it's cool that he is a man who sticks to his beliefs. He's now a Jehovahs Witness.

If you peruse pictures of Little Richard from the 1950s, you know from whom Prince got his look.

He's a mad genius. He should be so much bigger than he is, hit-wise. He has the talent to write classics 20x a week if wants to. But he doesn't. Too eccentric for his own good. My favorite period is NPG-Prince. No more purple paisley and puffy, ruffled sleeves. He came with the funk. "My Name is Prince", "Sexy MF". However my favorite song by Prince is "17 Days". B-side of "When Doves Cry"

He's done enough already to solidify his status as an icon in the business, I believe. He doesn't really need anymore hits. My favorite song of his is "The Beautiful Ones". Right behind it is probably "Purple Rain". The solo in that song simply rules.

huuuuuuuuuuuge prince fan here! well... I like the music. The little purple freak has really gone over the edge in the past couple years. I would be interested in *cough* discussing bootlegs with other fishies though!

I've only seen the mf'er once so he had better keep performing.

Love, love love Prince! His albums are a wonderful example of talent at its finest.
Most generally it is hard to maintain a fresh perspective while writing music. While listening to his albums I am always captured by the fact that all of his songs do not sound like the previous one.....
So fresh and innovative... although I do find it hard to watch him perform, much as I do Little Richard. Kind of creeps me out.

I like Prince's early stuff the best. 1999 is my favorite LP of his. Dirty Mind is good too, also a good record to play at a party(provided your guests are not offended by the subject matter).

If you're a fan, Prince has announced he's releasing a 3 CD set at the end of March via exclusive to the Target store chain (in the USA). Elsewhere, I dunno.

Prince is THE MAN...amazing. I saw him only once in concert but wow it was by far one of the best concerts I've ever seen. He is the ultimate musician and other musicians respect all his work, both popular and not so well known.

I love all his ''eras'' and if I start naming favorite songs I could go on forever.....

"Erotic City'' one of my favorite dance songs of all time...You've got the look, Kiss, When Doves Cry, Controversy, Alphabet Street, Thieves in the Temple, my name is prince...great dance song

Cream, I wanna be your lover, Do me baby.....all sexy sexy songs.

Beautiful Ones...one of my all time favorite break up songs.... as is "Nothing compares to U", TAke me with you, excellent pop song.

And one of my lesser known favorites....PUS SY Control....check it out ifyou haven't heard it...great beats

The word "genius" gets thrown around so often these days in the music world, usually to people who don't deserve it at all. However, Prince is one of the very few I can honestly say is a genius in every meaning of the word. He's just amazing, even when he fails his failures are amazing ("Come" anyone? lol). I can't wait for the new album(s), I'll be in line at Target the day it comes out.

I prefer nasty funky Prince ala "Hot thang, barely 21 hot thang, lookin for big fun.

However he is smoldering on his "The question of U" and "Scandalous", yummy times.

Ooo one last mention...."Girls and boys" - fun.

Although Prince has gone on to make incredible music after Purple Rain, plus his catalog of music before the Purple Rain period, let's face it, the guy will never top Purple Rain in the eyes (and ears) of many. He got typecasted big time, but hey- I wouldn't mind royalties for that kind of typecasting! Prince picked up Sly Stone's torch and ran with it and he is incredible. He deserved Rock Hall induction and all of the other honors for his vast array of music, but again, his swan song will always be Purple Rain.
