ROTFL
I know I would have come down for the cold beer. Well maybe it woud have taken two....

What a ****ing moron. Even hitting him with a Taser would be increadably stupid, the guy could have them falled and broken his neck.

Last year the cops in FL killed a few people with their tasers and the dumb s***** keep on using them like there is no tommorow. Also when you go into court in many counties in FL they wire you up in a remote controlled shock belt in case you don't show the proper respect to the man wearing the black dress. If you die from it....oh well thats your problem.

Stupidity was the man climbing the fig tree and refusing to come down after 2 hours of being asked to come down.

The officer is on leave pending the usual investigation.

I agree a beer might have been a better tool.

Tazers are relatively new toys to the so-called civil authorities. So they are a bit over zealous in their use at times.

Unfortunately they get a little zap happy.
Fortunately they leave readily apparent burn marks (which will scar) so you can count the number of times you've been zapped. Good for police brutality charges.

That cop, based on this incident, is stupid.

Do they really do that in Florida?

I would really like to read the article, but I've always said that officers need 2 years of school under their belt first.

Don't even get me started.....!!Investigation.....how about imprisonment..??

What's next.....? A bank robbery leaves the lobby of the bank with a bag of loot while some badge bearing bafoon squirts him down with a Bavarian Creme.

Uh you know how the long ones FEEL just like the butt end of a Glock 9mm.

Same story - but a different article.:

BREMERTON - The Kitsap County Sheriff's Office has placed a deputy on administrative leave after the deputy shot and wounded a man in a tree with his gun instead of a Taser, the sheriff's office said.

The deputy meant to fire the Taser and not his gun on Thursday, but grabbed the wrong weapon, sheriff's office spokesman Scott Wilson told the Kitsap Sun.

The deputy has been with the sheriff's office for five years.

Deputies carry both a Taser and a gun on their utility belts. The Taser used is similar in shape to the .40-caliber compact model gun the deputy used, Wilson said.

The Taser is a handheld weapon that delivers an electric shock via two stainless steel barbs.

The man had climbed high up a fig tree and had been there for several hours.

The shooting is under investigation by State Patrol detectives, Wilson said.

The man, believed to be in his 20s, was wounded in the leg and airlifted to Seattle's Harborview Medical Center, where he was listed in satisfactory condition.

Deputies and Bremerton Fire and Rescue personnel were called to the site of the tree after an employee of a local business reported the man had climbed the tree and was acting strangely. The man had been in the tree and talking to himself when one employee arrived at work at 7:30 a.m.

Deputies and rescue personnel attempted to coax the man from the tree for almost two hours before he was shot. During that time, the man was becoming increasingly hostile toward rescue personnel and deputies trying to get him out of the tree, witness David Blakeslee told the newspaper.

Deputies were unsure whether the man was intoxicated, on drugs, or possibly experiencing a psychotic episode.

One deputy attempted to discharge a Taser at the man, but when it did not work asked another deputy to fire a Taser. Instead of grabbing the Taser, the deputy grabbed and fired the gun, Wilson said.

Blakeslee, an employee with nearby B&B Auto Repair, described the man's reaction to getting shot.

"He said, 'Ow, that hurt, I'm coming down, I'm coming down,"' Blakeslee said.

The man climbed down the tree on his own where medical personnel were waiting, Blakeslee said.

Well, it seems we see news clips on a fairly regular basis of US police using weapons rather liberally. I remember one clip from LA awhile back where an SUV was surrounded by police officers and encircled by police cars blocking him.

He was suspected of something fairly minor, from what I recall.

When he started to move the truck forward, multiple police officers fired - spraying bullets into nearby houses. Amazingly, the suspect survived.

I have no problem with the use of force ( including lethal force) when needed by law enforcement - it just has to be used only in extreme cases.

Compton, CA (AHN) – Authorities in the Los Angeles suburb of Compton are investigating a shooting that leaves a suspect and a sheriff’s deputy with gunshot wounds, but the suspect appears to have been unarmed.

Officials say no weapon was found on the suspect after police opened fire in a residential neighborhood following an [alleged] "high speed" chase.

An investigation is underway to determine what prompted as many as ten officers to fire approximately 95 shots into an SUV wounding the suspect who is now in stable condition at a local hospital.

One resident says, "It was gunshots at the OK Corral."

The incident was videotaped by an amateur photographer. [See Video here from CTV in Vancouver]

Car shown stationary and blocked by police car just moments before police fired OVER one hundred twenty (120) bullets at vehicle in residential neighbourhood. House in background of above pictures was one of many houses hit by numerous stray bullets, as was one of the officers at the scene. The suspect was only hit four times and is expected to survive

Quite an amazing video, btw.... 95-120 shots , 4 hits - one officer wounded, and houses with innocent people inside hit by live rounds.

As for this case, any officer that can't tell the difference between a Tazer and a handgun ( especially as there was no need to rush, since the fellow was no real threat to anyone) , speaks of incompetence.

So what are ya saying here?

It happens all over, no matter where you may live. be it Canada or the USA.

I think the bottom line here is..... be grateful.

Regardless of mistakes made, wherever ya might happen to be at least a good try is made and believe it or not we are all human.

So......... that being said, feel safe.

It's all about the majority and not the minority.
