I sent a very nice note to a man on another site whose profile seemed very interesting
and the man sounded very easy going and fun but in the spot asking for political views
said :"I will tell you later". It was on one of the very respectable paid site.
I am very liberal politically and this is the answer I received, I was stunned
at the arrogance of this man proclaiming himself to be mellow and easy going.

Well, so much for political tolerance and freedom of speach. I told him to add that he is super conservative in his profile so people like myself would not waste my time. I am sooo proud of being liberal and better person than this jerk.

liberal- open

conservative- closed

I am a liberal too and in texas, surrounded not only by
conservatives, many are the religious type ( like Jerry Fawell )
and they are also... rednecks.

Thank you rainbowfishh, your explanation says it all :-) You made me feel better,
I know that this kind of ignorance and arrogance should slide off my skin like slime
but it still feels unfair. Good luck to you in your search!

OP, I don't think the problem was that this person was consevative; it's that they were a rude, obnoxious, jerk...and those types comes from all the political parties. Personally, I don't care if someone is liberal, conservative, in-between, etc....it's whether or not they're obnoxious and rude about it. Whatever party line one believes in, if they can't at least show consideration to other people's views, then they're not worth any time.

Thanks prolibertate, you are absolutely right. I have respect for all beliefs and all people
and would never be rude to someone because of it. It takes a real jerk to be so arrogant
and obnoxious and yes, they come in all colors, shapes and beliefs. I still think that liberal people are a little more open minded than religious fanatical right wing conservatives
like this guy.

In my area its tough to find a conservative without the arrogence...
so I dont see it much where there is a respectful conservative... but she is right.

rainbow, I've been called a conservative...and I'm not arrogant, lol...but then, I don't consider myself a conservative or a liberal; I look at each issue by itself and after listening to all sides and doing my own research on it, I make up my own mind about it. I'm pro-choice yest I'm also against gun control; I do the same with every other issue out there. I believe that anyone, no matter what their party line, can be arrogant, uninformed, under an illusion, etc....it's all because they're *people* lol, and some people 'just have to be right' no matter what...those are the ones I can't stand.

Well, wasn't he just "special" huh? and I mean "eat the paste" special!! Wow!!! I'm thinkin' he's not exactly "mellow and easy going". I think what he meant to say was he's mellow and easy going as long as you have the same opinions/ideals that he does.....if not...then there's gonna be a bit of "head buttin'" going on.

so much for the respect he was showing in how he replied to your email. Sheesh.

Some people are so blinkered in their views on life that they can't see that thing they are complaining about...is the very thing they are doing. Showing no respect.

He is special, all right! I am glad his arrogance came out now and not after I wasted
more time writing him. It's funny how this jerk is talking about respect but doesn't know
a thing about it and what it means. I wrote the complaint to that site, I hope they close his account for name calling. It was totally out of place especially that my message to him was
very respectful and classy.

Sounds like a Partisan person to me. Not surprising. Anyone who conforms or lumps people in 1 of 3 political parties, will be one you won't want to invite to one.

I know that it's not always the case, so easy does it here:

In my experience I have found that the more conservative someone is in his or her views the stronger they are and the more aggressive they are about promoting their beliefs.

Even though I am a Democrat and prefer to date fellow liberals, I would not want to be mean about it or force my views on other people. I've had men write nasty emails to me here on POF that were very mean and rude--I never even WROTE to those guys! Seems to me that many conservatives are very pushy, and that scares me away. I hate political debates and arguments so I want to be with someone who thinks more or less along the same line so that there's a level of comfort between us about politics. I am not interested in debating and would rather focus on common interests, knowing in the back of my head that the politics are pretty similar.

As far as friends who have differing views, I have some friends you could describe as slightly conservative, and they are great people. We have other interests we enjoy and don't really get into political discussions because none of us are interested in arguing our views. One relative I have is so far right wing that she is really pushy with everyone. It CAN be a turnoff to be too extreme in either case! Either the NRA or PETA extremes are bad and I support neither entities.

Typical liberal response by the OP.

Attempt to assert moral superiority while simultaneously playing the victim.

Grow up and deal with it princess, it's not like you aren't old enough to have a sense of perspective . Rejection is part of dating, both on line and off. If everyone who got a rejection e mail on here started a thread the entire site would crash under a massive weight of collective self pity.

So pour yourself a nice soy latte and move on. The smelly, birkenstock wearing, draft dodging, hippie of your dreams is out there somewhere demonstrating against whatever the heck is annoying you people these days waithing for a girl like you to share in his moral outrage at the same system which gave him his massive sense of entitlement.

mister_right, your name says it all. Get off your high horse and stop labeling people and for your information, I am far from adoring hippies. Your post by the way proves my point about conservatives: desrespectful and intolerant.

Old Saying,
Don't discuss politics or religion, seems these two subjects will cause so many hot discussions , and conclusions very seldom are reached.
I guess that is why so may of the paided dating sites have blocks to check on your political and religious choices.
I guess in correspondence its up to you and the other party if political prefference makes that much a difference.

cogs6969, so far the country is falling and it's not because of the liberals. Enough said. You just proved my point along with mr_right. You give no respect, you get none in return.
Also proves your arrogance. You think you are so much much better that everybody else,
Typical far right attitude.
