| Cricket and aussie rules - the best games ever? Posted: 2/27/2005 6:26:33 AM | Undoubtedly, cricket and australian rules football (AFL) are the best games ever invented. I expect poms to disagree seeing as we kick their ass at any opportunity in cricket
AFL is without a doubt the best football game in the world

It may have been around longer than baseball, but looks like a **stardization of it. Baseball can be boring enough as it is... but whats up with Cricket? And couldnt they think of another bug to name it after?

| Cricket and aussie rules - the best games ever? Posted: 3/2/2005 7:53:04 PM | There's no way you can call a game that lasts for 5 days, and ends in a "no result" - not even a tie/draw, but a "No result" the best game ever.
As for AFL - there's a reason it's not played anywhere outside Australia - they suck so much at normal football (soccer) they had to invent their own rules for it!

Posted: 4/20/2005 11:10:49 AM | i agree AFL is the best game ever it's the fastest most skilled entertaining game in the world you tell me of a full contact sport which doesn't need padding like those american pussies every bl**dy game they play they have to pad something up and don't get me started on soccer fair enought the little buggers have skill but it would have to be the most boring game to watch what an hour or 2 of players kicking the ball to each other across the ground then someone touches them and they go down like they've been shot by a sniper and at the end it's a nill all draw riverting stuff

AFL, well, I go to a canadian university, where they do have a rugby team, but only the women are allowed to play, because none of the men are tough enough.

| Cricket and aussie rules - the best games ever? Posted: 4/28/2005 8:03:02 PM | i love cricket! Test cricket can be boring but its is an acquired taste and the battles that go on between bat and ball can be engrossing.
ODI cricket is just fun.

See i was just reading along... enjoying the debate in this thread and then read the paragraph(and I use that term loosely) above. Bears....you're an idiot. Are you aware that several Aussie Rules players have attempted to jump to the NFL(American football)? Most notably Darrin Bennett of Melbourne. You know what happens to them? They become kickers. No tackling, no running, no throwing...just kicking. Why? Because they are not big enough, strong enough, or fast enough to be full time players. They would get killed. I have no doubt that Aussie Rules guys are tough, skilled athletes....but NFL players(outside Sumo) are the biggest and most powerful athletes in the world. The pads are a necessity. When you have men 125kg running at world class sprinter speed, the physics of the potential impact are clear. Even w/ the padding, it is a yearly occurence that some player is crippled. I enjoy watching Aussie Rules..but every time some ignorant punk from another country bashes American football, probably w/out having seen a game, it ticks me off. The violence of American football surpasses any sport in the world save boxing or a good hockey fight. Debate your cricket v. Auusie rules but leave American football out of it ...you don't know what you are talking about.

| Cricket and aussie rules - the best games ever? Posted: 7/26/2006 8:57:24 AM | | Crickets a game I totally someday want to learn. As for Aussie rules, I have to admit that if I'm flipping channels and I see a game on T.V. I have to watch. Something about it mesmerizes me. So brutal and violent yet really quite awe inspiring at times. Definitely one of the cooler sports out there. | |

Cricket is indeed a great sport... indeed, it got just a little bit better when we toasted the aussies for the ashes.. and I reckon we will be keeping them after the winter too!

AFL? Never watched it. I'm not much of a fan of Rugby either...
Sadly, as much as I don't want to say it, I think the Ashes will be back in the hands of the Aussies by next year...

pantsonfire - can u just give me a score update on teh ASHES now??
granted u guys did well last year, but it was as much luck as anything - and i can say that cos it literally came down to a couple of runs. not like the 4 or 5 nil thumping coming ur way this summer

| Cricket and aussie rules - the best games ever? Posted: 11/30/2006 1:56:39 AM | Soccer over AFL anyday.
AFL is really the boring one these days, with crap rules, and always interstate teams winning it.
What can Compare to the world cup and champions leauge.
When your team wins the world cup. Unbelievable.

| Cricket and aussie rules - the best games ever? Posted: 11/30/2006 4:35:18 AM | ^^^^ i really like soccer, but i do have a problem with a dodgey ref decision literally being the difference between winning and losing. it should never come down to that........but italy were sure glad it did and this is a game for a far greater potential for that to happen. | |

| Cricket and aussie rules - the best games ever? Posted: 11/30/2006 11:41:39 AM | I do think Cricket is one of the best sports going. Full of strategy and making the right decision at the right time.
As for the "Poms". We won fair and square. We may get beaten in the current series but it's early days.
My games Rugby (Union). Now that is by far the best sport in the World - beats Aussie Rules by about 1,000,000,000,000,000 miles. I believe we hold that World Trophey too. Oh yes, we do. I remember being there in Sydney when Wilkinson slotted that famous drop goal :-)))
You can always tell bad losers! But then what do you expect from siblings off convicts!!!!

| Cricket and aussie rules - the best games ever? Posted: 12/1/2006 1:48:14 AM | ^^ LOL bad boy ...... Not reserved at all showbags.. Just not c0cky or arrogant like some I could mention... Good opening day at Adelaide don't you think.. surprised at Warney not getting a wicket or three, think tomorrows opening 10 overs are gonna be crucial.. C'mon KP and Collie woohoo ...... Why be so negative towards our one win huh? Why be so spiteful and condescending and call our well deserved win 'luck'? When you win it's because you deserve to, because you are the better team, not blind luck .. so come on guys be adults and admit we won fair and square.. Or is it impossible to admit that sometimes you lose cos you don't deserve to win????? | |

| Cricket and aussie rules - the best games ever? Posted: 12/2/2006 12:05:09 AM | Pants - dont get me wrong, u guys deserved to win last year. it was a great series. all i was saying was that it literally coulda gone either way. ie. the critical test was the one that we lost by 2 runs. as opposed to getting hammered in the series which would've meant we were clearly the worse team. i dont think you could split the teams given the way they both played last year. i wasnt being 'spiteful' by calling the win luck. thats a bit over the top! lol
as for day 2 at adelaide - we were completely outplayed! dont worry i can admit when we are beaten. its good to see a competitive series is eventuating. i am just spewing now that i will be ireland and sctoland for the rest of the series after this match! bugger. come join is for some beers and laugh, and a lil of the old fashioned rivalry, to see how it all pans out hehe.
as for the convicts call - i always find it funny that poms pull that out as some sort of insult. why do u wanna remind urself that you have been getting consistently beaten over the last 15-20 yrs by a bunch of outcast lowly convicts?!
now we just need to go out and recruit us some south africans..........
