What kind of clubs do you like? They all have different kinds of music. If you're into hip hop...I doubt you would like a place like the Foufounes electriques....that's where all the punks with their doc martens hang out. The Cabaret Music-Hall is used alot for comedy acts...and it's booked with alot of acts for the Just For laughs festival right now.
Le Cactus on St. Denis is great if you're into Salsa dancing. People who dance there are practically professional dancers from what I hear.
Funkytown is an older crowd compared to most places. Average age is 30s-40s + and they have strictly 70s disco music. If you're into 80s music, then Electric Avenue is great for that. Bily Kun has alot of jazz music. Le Balattou specializes in African and Caribbean music, and is one of the venues for the Nuits Afriques Festival right now...which features African rythms.
As for Tokyo Bar, Thursdays and Sundays are hip-hop nights; the latter has a more Asian flavour. On Fridays and Saturdays the main room plays Top 40 hits and R&B while the smaller room parties to electro beats. You might like Karina's (1459, rue Crescent), which attracts a chilled out crowd of enthusiastic partiers looking to unwind while taking in some great live music. Karinas has Latin Wednesdays to Sweet Saturdays, not to mention House Thursdays, Funky Fridays (live jazz, funk or R&B act) and Hip Hop Sundays (with commercial house and R&B).
Just a thought.
