| 'Official' name for a person from Edinburgh? Posted: 7/22/2006 7:11:06 AM | Can someone tell me what the official name is for a person from Edinburgh? For example, I'm from Brighton and am therefore a Brightonian.
Edinburghite sounds right to me, but nobody I've spoken to knows the answer and Google's not been any help thus far.

| And the winner is.... Posted: 7/22/2006 7:51:22 AM | ...ArribaArribaAndale, for the suggestion Edinburgher. Don't know why I didn't think of that one!
For me it's a winner as it's the only name I found on any sort of 'official' website: http://www.visitscotland.com/library/famousedinburghers
So, thanks for that ArribaArribaAndale, another one of life's mysteries solved - I owe you a pint if you're even up this way.

| 'Official' name for a person from Edinburgh? Posted: 7/22/2006 11:36:25 AM | You know, I've lived in Edinburgh nearly my whole life and I'm still not sure exactly what we're called. Maybe we consider ourselves too posh to be referred to by anything.
By the way, I am most generous as is everyone else I know so fooks yous all! Haha.

| 'Official' name for a person from Edinburgh? Posted: 7/22/2006 4:25:42 PM | | I don't know about Edinburgh, but I know that where I am from we are either known as Southerners (which pretty much applies to most people from any of the coastal settlements from Brighton to Bournemouth) or more specifically for my city, So'toners (So'ton being the approved short hand for Southampton). Off course, if you come from Portsmouth / Pompey, So'toners are more often reffered to as Scum, though if you following the traditional naming of our football team, you could just call us Southampton folk Saints. | |

| 'Official' name for a person from Edinburgh? Posted: 7/22/2006 4:36:44 PM | | They became known as Scummers when the Dock workers in Southampton one year several decades ago decided to go on strike during the last time labour was in power (something about wages etc...). However instead of getting quite the impact they had wanted, what actually happened was the companies just shifted all the work to Pompey, doubling the workload for the people in Portsmouth. Thus the Pompey lads started reffering to Southampton as Scummers for such a low move. Then again, rivallry has existed between Southampton and Portsmouth as befits any two cities that are situated close together. People from Swansea and Cardiff are no different. | |

But it has to be something and it might as well be Edinburger
