| Home Grown Tomato Sandwiches Posted: 8/9/2006 7:04:06 PM | Did the store happen to have the name of the avocado? You can check the University of California's Agriculture and Natural Resources web site for the characteristics of over 1000 different types of avocado as well as information on new varieties in the testing stages.
Avocados are a fruit and are sodium and cholesterol free and contain about 5 grams of fat per serving - most of which is monounsaturated.

| Home Grown Tomato Sandwiches Posted: 8/9/2006 8:00:59 PM | | You know what? Thats'a great idea! I'll call them and get the name...perhaps those of you in moderate climates can grow them in your back yards! And by knowing the latin name (or subspecies,) I will know what I am looking for next time~ | |

| Home Grown Tomato Sandwiches Posted: 8/10/2006 3:23:16 PM | love avocados but i'll stick to the nice fat was because it sooooo good for you. Garden fresh tomatoes are so good on a sandwich. i'm happy with just thick slices on whole wheat with a touch of mayo and maybe some type of lettuce. every now and than I sneak in a slice of bacon or two | |

| Home Grown Tomato Sandwiches Posted: 8/15/2006 5:20:46 PM | | avocados' fat has the highest yield of HDL, monosaturates. Best for health. I buy Sysco Foods Surplus. $3 per ~10lb case. I hate them, slimy, ugh! taste but make myself eat them for health. Can get rid of bad triglycerides. Best to you. | |

| Home Grown Tomato Sandwiches Posted: 10/3/2006 5:46:52 PM | | yayaya, I KNOW, but I just thought it VERY ODD that they grow 'lowfat' avocados! k? It seemed interesting to me, nothing more, and I prefer pears just off the tree....gollee, I get the 9 yards for mentioning lo-fat avocados, I swear I won't do it again! I suppose you are all carb haters also~ | |

| Home Grown Tomato Sandwiches Posted: 10/4/2006 5:18:13 PM | People automatically assume that all fats are BAD when in reality if the fat is from a plant source like avacados or olives..its very good for ya.
Maybe they should work on making low fat cows instead of low fat avacados..
Oh..and not to mention the original topic..a good sliced tomato with some salt and pepper on some nice bread with some mustard..good on its own..
