Net shutting down - IE problems [CLOSED Thread]Page 1 of 3    (1, 2, 3)
When I go from forums to messages the net says there is an error and shuts me down then I have to log in again. Is that a computer prob. or a site prob?

I don't seem to be experiencing that problem Leeanne, so I don't think it's a site problem.

Check with your ISP, or try another browser.

The site is running fine for me, and no other complaints.

Maybe try deleting cache and cookies, exit the browser and see how that works.

If that doesn't help, your ISP may be wonky

I'd call your ISP, and/or reload whatever application (you get that from your ISP) you use to access the internet, make sure you save your settings, etc.

Actually, is it just this site?

Hmmm... then disregard the advice, you may have spyware or some other Windows malady.

There is a thread for this in TechnologyComputers forum, I suggest you try there.

Leeanne,

I've been having the same exact problem with POF for two days. All other websites and my e-mail are fine except for one other site. Once I move from my inbox to search or to send or reply to a letter ... my Internet Explorer crashes.

It's become almost impossible to answer any of my mail or to write anyone else ... because the minute the screen changes you are signed off. I have no spyware or viruses and have run both my Ad-Aware and Symantec.

It says there is an error with my "ndd.dll" application. Although other people with different browsers or ISP's may not be having trouble ... I have the same thing you have.

What did you do to fix your problem ... or does anyone else have a suggestion?

Jimmy

My first suggestion would be to use a different browser. I use Opera. Others swear by Firefox.

My second suggestion is to uninstall IE and reinstall.

I was talking to a Computer Tech yesterday and I have had the same problem. It is only on POF and a few other sites. He asked if it started when my last Windows update was done? I said that yes it did actually. He said there was virus out there that was attaching itself to the updates and causing this same problem. He also said there was another that mimics windows updates and actually is a imposter and causes the same thing. So looks like the computer is off to the shop Monday! CRAP!

I do a lot of coding myself. IE has had problems in the past with certain input elements such as this textbox. (Anything you can type in) If the syntax itself isn't right, it may sometimes close out. If you are on an old version of IE, try upgrading to 6. I wouldn't recommend using IE 7 yet, as it is new and most likely rather buggy, as Microsoft always does beta testing. (Your the guinea pig.)

I'm assuming that everyone means that IE is literally closing out. Otherwise its probably a security issue. If so, just go to tools -> Internet Options -> Security, and lower your security settings. Just be careful if you go to any potentially dangerous sites. (Which you shouldn't be on anyways :D)

This might be getting a little to complicated for people here, but if you want to see if the problem I am talking about is actually the problem, copy the code below, create a new text document with something like wordpad or notepad, then save it as something like "test.html". Be sure to include the quotes around the name when you save it. Once you save it, try opening it. If it crashes, its a syntax problem on this site and a few others. There are also possibilities of images causing the problems. I'm not certain what POF uses to crop their images, since I use PHP, but certain images may end up with problems. Let me know if this holds true for anyone.

Paste this code:

IE Test

<title>IE Test</title>

<body>

Can I get more info on this please? My comp is working pretty good, but noticed there have been "attempted" updates on my comp, but without success...thank goodness.

OP, I noticed after I sign in to site, if I stay on the forums too long, and try to go back to matches/profile/email messages etc...I must sign back in. (But no error messages pop up for me.) Is that kind of the same?

he can post HTML helps debug problems.

Sounds like the microsoft monthly update got rolled out and its crashing a lot of computers.

Is everyone here running symantec or some kind of virus checker that could be causing the problem?

Just running a few firewalls, router, 3 or so spyware/active x programs. Not actively running anti-virus in background.

Test worked fine, no crashing.

I personally don't have symantec, but my computer is not crashing either.

Like I said, microsoft is trying to update on my comp, but nothing is happening/downloading. It does "feel" like something was trying to get into my comp,
but so far so good, nothing yet. I have spybot S&D, and Trend Micro Anti-spyware.

I downloaded Firefox today, and I really like it. But I still have to resign in after being in the forums for awhile.

Does that mean I can delete the internet explorer program? Do I need that now that I have firefox?

THose are just automatic updates.

I suspect some of the microsoft updates are screwing up peoples browsers causing them to crash on pages with forms. Seem to be seeing a LOT of complaints .

I just went through the same thing. It all started when I did updates for windows. I found out you need a patch for IE 6.0, because many people are experiencing crashes, when having to log in to websites. (because the windows update has put a new security patch in) Everytime I logged into POF I crashed. I updated IE 6.0 to 6.0 SP1. All good now...but my IM is not working

it started doing this to me yesterday.
Only this site. Only when I'm logged in to mail/profile. I can read and post in the forums, or scan profiles, no problem. As soon as I go to messages it shuts down.

My windows was also update yesterday. After reading other posts here, I'd assume that lead to the problem.

I'm also using internet explorer, perhaps I'll try another browser.
