I can also say a few things in Italian, know a few Greek words (trust me it takes forever to read it), and can count to 12 in French. What about you? Or is learning a new language not important now a days?

| How many languages do you know besides English? Posted: 3/9/2005 7:37:08 AM | Learning other languages has always been a huge struggle for me, I took 2 years of french and semester of both spanish and italian, I would say I know italian the best out of the three, because I actually went there. The easiest way to learn a language is to just be thrown into the situation.
But other than English I would say the second language that I am most capable of communicating in, would be Sign Language. A situation in which I was thrown into working with a boy who could only communicate with me through sign language, so I wanted to learn it so I could understand him on my own. PLus it is an absolutely beautiful language, almost like a dance of sorts. I plan on someday after school becoming fluent in sign!

Then I tried Japanese, just so I could get a language for university if need be. Lets just say I dont remember much from Japanese other then the characters, god it was hard to understand....

Funny enough, while I was living in the states no one could tell that I was from Spain :P well, until they knew my name, hahaha

When I traveled to Germany and Italy I knew the basics and I actually lived in China for a semester when I taught English as a Second Language in a local college.

Ebonics count? | |

| How many languages do you know besides English? Posted: 3/9/2005 6:44:14 PM | | No, ebonics is not a language. It's simply poor grammar, and lack of thought. Not an attack on any race, as many intercity kids speak this "langauge", or lack thereof. | |

I understand most latin, spanish, and italian words due to their similarity with french, but they are usually spoken way too fast. That's why the only sentence I bother learning in Spanish and Italian is: "Speak slower please"
