| WHATS WITH THE OLD THREADS? ORIGINAL IDEAS??? ANYONE! Posted: 8/16/2006 5:33:07 PM | I keep checking out these threads that are appearing .. wondering what they're all about .. some seem too familiar ..so i look and they're months old!!! most of the people who posted those threads have moved on .. some aren't even in the pond anymore .. so what gives?
Anyone got any ORIGINAL IDEAS for some new threads?? rather than ressurecting all this old news?

| WHATS WITH THE OLD THREADS? ORIGINAL IDEAS??? ANYONE! Posted: 8/16/2006 5:39:58 PM | I agree with the OP. Originality remains on indefinite vacation.
[edit] I didn't do a thread search, so no clue as to originality. But have the forums covered geographic predjudices in dating... people from specific regions/states/provinces prefered or avoided?

| WHATS WITH THE OLD THREADS? ORIGINAL IDEAS??? ANYONE! Posted: 8/16/2006 5:56:28 PM | there was a thread not long ago that worded it different .. the OP was saying something to the effect that the women he contacted were more into circumstances than relationships .. he had been emailing people from some distance from him (thousand miles inone case so he said) .. and he accused the woman he emailed of being hung up on circumstances (ie distance) rather than wanting a relationship! .. is that sorta what you mean Hippy?
there was another thread "What profiles do you avoid and why?" ..
but otherwise .. go for it! .. i'm not sure why the mods aren't dumping half of the threads that were started months ago .. hmmm .. i thought originality counted for something..
anyway .. NEW THREADS ?? Post away! ..
oh .. there are rules .. check them out first .. make sure you don't get your post deleted .. that would suk!

| WHATS WITH THE OLD THREADS? ORIGINAL IDEAS??? ANYONE! Posted: 8/16/2006 6:21:14 PM | How many threads are really that original if you go back through every single one of them?
Granted, relationships and dating can be complex...but the general issues are probably the same for everyone, just with a personal angle when they post it.
My goal now is to post a completely original thread by Friday... Colin

| WHATS WITH THE OLD THREADS? ORIGINAL IDEAS??? ANYONE! Posted: 8/16/2006 6:22:10 PM | not everyone votes to delete .. and while i know there are those who do .. i'm not gonna stop havin fun cuz of a minority!!! sheesh .. ive had threads deleted .. this one could be next . .. still .. i'd rather something new than a thread that was started by someone who isn't even online anymore! lol .. and ya know . .. if the rest of us just vote to keep the new threads on .. then we should at least have some balance.. dontcha think?
wanda..

love to see a thread from you colin!!

oh .. there are rules .. check them out first .. make sure you don't get your post deleted ..
I think the myriad of rules that govern these forums, and the occasional doctrinaire admonitions from the mods tend to quash the creation of new threads.

| WHATS WITH THE OLD THREADS? ORIGINAL IDEAS??? ANYONE! Posted: 8/16/2006 8:45:14 PM | well .. there are a lot of forums topics / threads .. and every one of them was NEW at some point in time.. that or we can talk about JFK .. again and again and again .. zzzZZZZ
i could come up with a whole wack of new stuff to bring to forums . but people would soon tire of the SAME OP ...

| WHATS WITH THE OLD THREADS? ORIGINAL IDEAS??? ANYONE! Posted: 8/16/2006 9:12:39 PM | Wanda, all of these old threads were new at one time, and so many new threads have been deleted buecause they "broke the rules"...I know, I am guilty! As long as we can put new ideas into the old threads, why not? The rule of only being allowed to respond to the OP makes it tough, though, because so many posts after the OP put a new light on the old topic! I see my old "What do our pets say about us " is till active, but has been completely misunderstood by a few contributers, but It goes where they take it! | |

| WHATS WITH THE OLD THREADS? ORIGINAL IDEAS??? ANYONE! Posted: 8/16/2006 10:10:38 PM | It's been like that since the beginning of time. Wasn't it written in Ecclesiastes:
"What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun."
Well, if they had that problem 3,000 years ago, what hope to we have today?

| WHATS WITH THE OLD THREADS? ORIGINAL IDEAS??? ANYONE! Posted: 8/17/2006 7:12:55 AM | oh .. well then .. if thats the way "its always been" .. of course .. who am i to challenge it! .. and not all of us cling to a 2000 year old book!!! there are religious threads for that stuff!!
people use to beat their kids .. and some figure its ok .. cuz its always been there was a time when men "owned" their wives (even to the courts) ..
omg .. the invention of the wheel musta been a major upset!!!
we evolve and change every day .. those who don't .. hmmm perhaps cable would help .. one or two channels is a "narrow" choice... sure many things come and go .. and reinvent themselves in a new package .. like "friends with benefits" .. there have always been loose women .. its just getting more acceptable (to some!) .. its a topic you wouldn't have seen back inthe day of ecclesiastics!!! at least not with the same spin on it!!!
species become extinct daily .. others are discovered .. even our solar system .. we are constantly discovering NEW things .. perhaps they've always been there (in some way) .. but everything is changing on a continuum ..
theres lots of new stuff to talk about .. even in this thread ... and there have been a few new threads started as a result ..
to those who have an original thought that they've been willing to share Thanks

| WHATS WITH THE OLD THREADS? ORIGINAL IDEAS??? ANYONE! Posted: 8/17/2006 7:39:08 AM | Some of those threads are so long, and so old, that you'd have to wade through 25 pages to see if you were saying something that 300 people have already said. I don't think it's worth the effort.
I think what might be an idea is if a thread hasn't have any comments posted to if for a certain period (say, 30 days) that it gets deleted, and the topic is then available for a new OP, and new users.

| WHATS WITH THE OLD THREADS? ORIGINAL IDEAS??? ANYONE! Posted: 8/17/2006 8:06:15 PM | every time someone answers a thread it returns to the top of the heap. It would be nice if they would dump all threads and start over on January first every year.Honestly who is going to look through and read 30 pages or more of a old thread? | |

| WHATS WITH THE OLD THREADS? ORIGINAL IDEAS??? ANYONE! Posted: 8/17/2006 8:23:09 PM | this new thread seems to be picking up steam .. and i see several new ones starting up .. some are pretty interesting too ..
i've gotten in the habit in the last day or so of looking at the OP post and noting the date .. if its older than a month .. i don't post. I like the notion that one poster had that if no one had posted to a thread in the last 30 days it ought be deleted .. keeps things fresh .. and if someone starts a thread that was discussed 3 years ago SO WHAT .. its brand new again! in the meantime .. looks like theres a few creative minds biting at the new thread ideas .. kool !
and yes there are forums rules blahblahblah .. but its not as bad as some would think .. we certainly are not restricted to resurrecting old threads for subject material .. ! sheesh where did anyone get that idea? ..
hey Treasure .. got any ideas of yer own? Post Away!!!
i'm off to make a list of things to do before i die and write a letter to my younger self .. hmmm also have to give some thought to how much time i actually spend on this thing!! .. all ideas from forums .. not to mention the burgers bobbys buyin!! lol
thanks fishes

| WHATS WITH THE OLD THREADS? ORIGINAL IDEAS??? ANYONE! Posted: 8/17/2006 10:47:49 PM | I find that most of the threads are mundane chatting instead of a forum for discussing real issues. I've had threads deleated by the chatters because mostly they're here to chat, they're here to expound on their own personal life style and looking for some kind of validation and don't wish to hear the contrary.
I don't mind the rules because they are designed to prevent the chatting, flaming and bashing.
It seems that the threads don't discuss issues that we are here for, fishing.
I've enjoyed some threads that have discussed ways we can attract someone dive to the bottom of the heap because of the chatting and bashing. I posted some of my ideas on how to meet people only to get chastised for being out of the 'norm'. Usually, the negative responses come from those who've been here a while. Peosonally, I find it difficult to take dating advice from someone that finds something wrong with anything outside their own experience, no wonder they find it difficult to connect.
I'd enjoy hearing from people that have ideas about how to connect but I'm sure that for every good idea there will be 2 or 3 posters rejecting that same idea.

| WHATS WITH THE OLD THREADS? ORIGINAL IDEAS??? ANYONE! Posted: 8/18/2006 2:41:46 AM | What is the "vote to delete button"? I can't see one.
I think they should remove the months old threads and let people start over with the questions instead of pointing to the old threads. Peoples circumstances are different so no two questions are exactly the same and garner the same type of responses.

| WHATS WITH THE OLD THREADS? ORIGINAL IDEAS??? ANYONE! Posted: 8/18/2006 6:07:11 AM | This is not my opinion .. this is a quote from a post or two ^^ ... i think that most people assume the mods spend all their time perusing forums to delete .. after reading what this poster said .. i was compelled to do what he and others do > Quote ...
Quote: I find that most of the threads are mundane chatting instead of a forum for discussing real issues. End Quote ...^^ you are guilty yourself of whining about ex's and bashing others in forums .. perhaps you ought monitor your own behaviour and let the mods in here to their job! .. and that is apparently why we are stuck with so many old threads .. i really don't understand why people .. especially other "fishes" in the pond .. need to pick at and on each other .. if ya don't like a thread .. why not just go find one that is perfect.. one that You feel is "good enough" .. The only time i have been compelled to report a thread is when it is absolutely hateful.. name calling, rude or downright nasty... pretty sad some people think they have open minds .. perhaps its time to start a thread on how to deal with people who have control issues.. i'll let someone else take it ..

| WHATS WITH THE OLD THREADS? ORIGINAL IDEAS??? ANYONE! Posted: 8/18/2006 6:13:35 AM | | There are a few people that started many threads that have moved on or been tossed out of the pond (banned by the moderators). Whatever the reasons for this happening, it has. So be it. | |
|
| WHATS WITH THE OLD THREADS? ORIGINAL IDEAS??? ANYONE! Posted: 8/18/2006 12:34:09 PM | nope .. its not all about nasty mods.. in fact the mods aren't all that bad .. they volunteer their time and generally focus on the things that are brought to their attention by other posters .. and some people just don't like seeing other people have fun .. take a couple posts back as a perfect example of someone who isn't content focussing on the things that he appreciates .. rather he focusses on the things that other people appreciate and then sets out to take their fun away .. how sad is that? .. wow .. my deepest sympathies .. it must be very lonely in "that" world.
and to quote another poster .. i have the right to voice my opinion too!
