Well, since you are located in the eastern part of the US I would suggest a trip down to the Great Smoky Mountains. If you want to venture a bit further, Colorado has some breathtaking scenery as well. I'm sure there are other places but those are the only ones I've actually seen myself.

If you are ever out on the west coast and want to do some mountain hiking or climbing, then ya gotta make it to Yosemite

There is Glacier Park that extends from Montana to Canada. There are mountain ranges in Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, California. But if you have a few extra bucks and are a seasoned explorer of mountains, head for Alaska. We have the Alaska Range, The Chugach Mountains and ranges of mountains that seem to have no name at all. You can be flown into any area you wish to explor and spend the summer doing nothing but hiking and climbing all summer long in our mountain ranges with out ever seeing a car or city. You might come across a village near a river or a lone mountain shack but that is it for civilization.
