| Stargate SG1 -Cancelled?
Posted: 8/22/2006 8:28:05 PM | The long running TV show Stargate SG1 has been dropped by the U.S. network SCI FI Channel.
Interestingly the first episode of the 10th season which was shown the next day had it's highest ever ratings.
STARGATE ATLANTIS however has been renewed for a 4th year.
The producers are now looking to see if other networks want to pick up the show.
Time for us fans to put some heat on.  | |

Atlantis is good but no where near as awesome as SG1.......
Oh well. I have all available seasons on DVD. Guess I'll be watching them for the 100th time over and over........
This sucks and has completely sucked the joy from my day. I'm going to go sulk now. | |

I don't know if they are just running out of ideas, or if it's just a case of writing themselves into a hole.... but it just doesn't captivate me like it used to.
I still think it's a decent show....
Atlantis is okay too.... but where are they going with it....?
I've been watching the show since the beginning... in fact I remember going to the movie in the theaters all those years ago.
Eventually all shows get cancelled/not renewed... it's too bad they didn't do it to the X Files sooner... the last what... 2 seasons sucked out loud compared to the others...
I don't know... I wish that Lone Gunmen spin-off show had stuck around.....stupid politics. | |

Atlantis is only "so-so" by comparison to me.
Farscape was totally cool!! Luved it!!

Shanks said his role was easy since all he had to do was immitate Spader. Maybe Shanks could play a laywer in a new TV show. How about a sci-fi laywer show? Had Edward James Olmos on it, and it might have set a record for how quick a show gets cancelled. I think they only shot 2 episodes. Hopefully lawyers will fair as well in the real future
And that totally sucks if they cancelled Stargate, seems the stupid SOB's who are calling the shots these days are definately not sci fi fans. So what's supposed to happen with the Ori (however its spelled)? Probably the same shit thats been happening with the rest. Cable pays off regular TV to air crap, forcing people who'd like something to watch now and then to pay for it. Or running teasers like the start of the new BSG and Surface, and then supposed to pay to see the ending? I don't watch enough to pay for what should be free. And now will have even less incentive, if SG goes in the dumper. Think its time to start a revolt.Viva la revolution! FREE DECENT TV!!!

I'm on the side of Msg 7, better to end it now on a high note than have them really jump the shark just to keep things going.
They had a good run and i will miss them. | |

Posted: 6/21/2007 10:37:18 AM | I wasn't overly impressed when Jack left, but I thought Claudia Black brought a new excitement to the show that it seriously needed. I watched the last episode of season 10 not knowing it was the last ever episode and when I found out, it really irritated me. There was really no finality to it and nothing resolved.
I liked SG Atlantis, thought they gathered a fairly good cast and it was just different enough from SG1 to be entertaining. I thought the Wraith were cool bad guys, then they switched to Replicators and in SG1 Replicators have been done to death. Of course like many women, having Ronin to watch makes the show that much more enjoyable.
BSG I was bored by the end of the second season. | |

Maybe the idea is to do a few Stargate TV movies and hope that another network picks it up. But usulally the Sci-fi channel is the last refuge for shows. Maybe if enough people write in they could bring it back. The show Jericho has gotten a second life. | |

Now Jericho seemed a hopeful replacement and just as I discovered it and became addicted it DISAPPEARED. It seems to be appearing now on a HD only cable channel, but I do not have HD TV yet. Is it coming to regular tv soon? I have heard rumors.

I have to disagree.
W/ a few exceptions (the "funny" shows) Stargate Atlantis has done an excellent job of building on the Stargate mythos...and in most cases exceeding the limits of its originator.
W/O the relentless mugging and scene chewing of Richard Dean Anderson and the consistent failure of SG1's writers to follow the continuity of earlier episodes, Atlantis couldn't help but be better.
While I'm not a fan of this particular season (Season 4) in my opinion, this show is MUCH better than its predecessor. | |

The first four episodes of Season 1 will be broadcast on Feb 11 at 7pm on SciFi channel followed by the rest every Mon at 10pm. | |

The constant turnover on this show is making me rethink my earlier statement.
A show w/ frequent character changes usually gets WORSE, not better.
The exception being the original Law & Order (well...some seasons)
I don't expect Atlantis to last more than one more season if it continues the way it seems to be going. | |
