I did a thread search to try to answer my question and couldn't find it. I've always wanted to know this.
1. Length of Celibacy
2. Reasons why.
3. Methods of maintaining it.
I'm dying to know this because I highly respect Celibacy and am very curious how women can remain celibate.

Length: I was celibate a couple of times for six to eight months, and many times for two, three or four months.
Reason: He was in the navy, and then the coast guard.
Method: Getting on with life. Masturbation.
Age 45 to 48:
Length: Two years, give or take.
Reason: Death.

If a woman or a man has a driving reason to do anything, there ya have it. Common for women, however, is not choosing celebacy long term, but choosing it day by day. With each *opportunity* to end the celebacy, comes a new reason for maintaining it. As much as I love men, there are some rotten apples who just turn women off of the whole idea of sex with men. Ending it can be for several reasons, making a life change, deciding to be a bit daring, or maybe, could it be? Love.
There have been some nights when I was raging in hormones I wanted to walk down the street and knock on a certain door, one I turn down quite frequently, for logical reasons. The best way to not do such a disasterous move? Indulgence and exercise. A little pampering and having good friends around you provides that special touch of emotional intimacy, while the exercise such as dirty dancing (sober) with TRUSTED friends, can work up the sweat needed to satisfy the hormone rage.

Posted: 9/3/2006 6:30:48 PM | I have been celibate for almost 15 months. Personal choice. There were many things that I needed to fix in ME before allowing another man into my life. So of course, I not only cut out the sex, but ANY intimate interaction.

Posted: 9/3/2006 7:03:37 PM | My grandma went for over 30 years without. I don't think she cared for it much, just from what she had said. You go without as long as your not getting it. Some by choice and others by life. Everyone is different.
My dad lost his prostate to cancer and hasn't had any for a few years...so I guess my mom is, too. They still love each other dearly and hasn't been an issue for them. | |

2. Why? Because I think that feelings and respect are an important aspect of sex/love making for me, more important than animal lust. And it took me 28 years to find someone who respected that about me, lol who I also felt animal lust for (because well the animal lust is still important).
3. Erotica, and my handly little toy, and my own 2 fingers....Definitally not the same as the real thing. But it takes the edge off and its safe. | |

And the reason I go into celibacy mode is because I get bored of having FWBs while I am single and so I stop having sexual relations and see if I meet someone I can be with.
But I have a high sex drive and I will find someone to be sexually intimate with by the 6-7 month mark because by then, I'm finding it difficult to concentrate. | |

As for your grandma, well- my pops used to tell me how he hiked miles and miles to get to school to reinforce value for education in me. Might your grandma have had the motivation, such as values, etc, to fib about her sexual life with you? | |

2) I had been in an abusive marriage. I had seen too many friends go right back to the kind of ex they left, because they didn't heal whatever it was within them that attracted them to that kind of person. There was no way I was going back to something like that... I had to learn to love myself first, before I could look for someone else to love.
3) Divorce court battles will turn off most of the drive.... what little was left... toys.

It brought up a lot of reasons I had forgotten, such as the partner is away in the navy at sea for six months at a time. This can be true to many men who have to work away from home either in the field, at sea, or on location.
Really great explanations women, I know I re-learned a lot about the depth of women.
So often we men carry around these rather flat judgements on celibacy and women, and we men forget the true range and depth of women with regards to sexuality, emotions, commitment, children and family.
You all have definitely reaffirmed my faith in real women beyond Hollywood. They are out there, we just have to look, ask and talk to them.
