| A story about PassionAds.com Posted: 3/15/2005 3:31:22 PM | Some months ago I was bored and reacted just for fun on one of the spam-mails I often get hit by on my spam-away address. It was for a site called PassionAds.com, and I have been wanting to tell the story so others can see and learn from it (I guess it's my primitive way of hitting back at that site). In the end it's all about web rule #1: "If it looks too good to be true, then it is." It's really a matter of thinking with your brain, which sometimes is a problem for me.
Anyway, I got this offer to join, and I was bored, so I did. I just made a more or less empty profile, and didn't expect to get any reaction at all, but was I wrong! It didn't take more than a few days before I got a very real looking e-mail from a female profile. The e-mail was very direct, and it sure looked like the real thing, and I had to join to reply. Hell, 30$ isn't that bad, so I paid and replied to the e-mail, which never resulted in a reply. I got more e-mails during the days that followed, and that is when I started becoming very suspicious. How the hell could a basically empty profile attract THAT much attention when I hardly get any attention at all with my very elaborate match.com profile? My brain was finally starting to kick in!
The e-mails sure looked real. They had the same format; "I'm going to be close to CITY around DATE". To test whether these e-mails were fake, I made another PassionAds.com profile with another e-mail address (this one I didn't pay for; just needed to receive the e-mails) and another location (still an empty profile). It didn't take long before I got e-mails, and I started spotting that some of them were identical to e-mails I had received earlier on the other profile, though the pictures were different. The CITY and DATE had just been replaced. Bingo! An automated scam.
I closed the account, even though I had 20 days left of my membership, and I have once again learned what seems to be necessary to re-learn once in a while.
What puzzles me is whether the e-mails were send by spambots or the actual site itself? I actually think they were send by the site; I doubt there is a single genuine female profile on that site.

| A story about PassionAds.com Posted: 3/17/2005 9:20:59 AM | I truly wonder if the site sent the fake emails. That would be like shill bidding. The internet is definitely not regulated in a fashion that ensures authenticity.
Thanks for the heads up :).

| A story about PassionAds.com Posted: 3/17/2005 5:58:56 PM | Actually, I found another report, very similar: http://ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff129582.htm and now to make sure this one appears on google; the scam site is called PassionAds.com. The site is pure fake; no real profiles, just fakes that send out automated e-mails. People have also complained that they can't get their accounts deleted. I checked my cc regularly in the months after having been scammed.
Be warned, if you go to PassionAds.com, be prepared to be scammed.
(just using a temporary account; not in the mood for zero replies from females).

| A story about PassionAds.com Posted: 3/17/2005 6:02:19 PM | ...oh and btw, the biatch from California under featured members (probably first featured member) is a well-known spammer. She's been hitting me for years with spam, and PassionAds.com is her only success, and there won't be anymore.
I will gladly pay to witness against PassionAds.com and that spam**** if they ever get indicted.

| A story about PassionAds.com Posted: 4/3/2005 9:12:00 AM | Dr. Hassan,
I enjoyed your post.
Thanks for sharing.
I wish I could avail of this space to share with you all the known scams in the "personal" area. But it might be helpful to know that most if not all of these emails are generated by computer systems specifically designed to auto-reply. One site took in one million dollars in less then 10 days before the regulators shut it down. The gentleman who posted the reference to the "60 day rule" on credit card charges is correct. Most folks don't take advantage of it and just let it ride.
I am aware of a savvy group of people who are working on a concept to make sure only real people are putting up profiles even though they may legitimately use a "screen name" - primarily for ladies - as we do have some unconventional folks out there who may engage in "harassment".
The fun part of the online experience of course is that it allows many to "vent" and that is a good thing:))
Thanks for your post.
p.s. I doubt seriously that a fellow of your accomplishments is at any loss of brain function - an occasional brain fart perhaps but no long term constipation!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| A story about PassionAds.com Posted: 4/5/2005 3:58:05 PM | | You know the same thing happened to me on a site called sexsearch.com. I got an email to join and for fun thought I would check it out and put up a basic profile and before I knew it I started getting all these messages from these other so called members, but soon realised it was just basically a scam to get you to go to their website and pay a membership so you could talk to them, such bs. The real crappy part about it too is that the girl I was with for about six years was using my laptop and found the site in my internet history and decided to look at it and then somehow found out the password and username for the site and saw all the scam messages I was getting and then broke up with me and accused me of cheating on her thinking that I was hooking up with these women. | |

| A story about PassionAds.com Posted: 4/9/2005 7:35:20 PM | | Thank you for sharing that! Like you, I sort of stubmled into PassionAds.com, creaded a basically empty profile, and got an email exactly like the one you got. I was about to reply but thought I should probably check them out a little more first, and a google search turned up this thread. Thank God I didn't pay them any money! | |

| A story about PassionAds.com Posted: 4/9/2005 7:48:46 PM | Oh, one more thing. Maybe I should share to story of how I ended up at PassionAds.com in the first place.
I had replied to a profile on an otherwise legitimite dating site. A few days later I got a very real looking reply: "I'm glad you liked my profile, these are my interests... contact me at [some email address]." Looking back, the fact that she wanted me to send an email rather than contacting her through the site should have made me suspicious. But I created a throwaway Hotmail address and sent her an email from there.
I never got a reply, but the Hotmail address soon began getting the type of spam that looks like it's from someone who knows me, you know the kind that says "Check out my pictures on this web site," but the link just takes you to some porn site, or in one case to PassionAds.com.
So, I learned the hard way why you shouldn't give out your real email address.

| A story about PassionAds.com Posted: 4/10/2005 7:21:22 AM | Personal ad companies are not preying or exploiting Men's deseprations for female companions. They are pretty much aware, that women ignore them, so they figured they'd create a "Fake" woman to get them to join their sites, only to be ignored by the REAL deal.
I am curious if women get the same problem.

| A story about PassionAds.com Posted: 4/14/2005 9:25:56 AM | I have had similar problems... I checked out a few of the sites that popped up in my email and then started receiving 'personal' emails from people who wanted me to check them out. As well, I received a lot of Hallmark greeting cards that came from people I did not know. I caution everyone about these cards because each one has the same code and is obviously some sort of virus or adware. Velvet | |

alabamasugar Date 2005-04-22 03:22:21 Subject Married woman seeking..... Body Hey there. Sorry to be brief, but I'm about to call it a night (FINALLY!) but I wanted to let you know that I'm going to be about 30 min. outside of Boston the weekend of April 29th to May 1st visiting family. I go through this once every 2 months and each time boredom nearly strikes me to death lol! I'll be up front from the start, I am married and discretion is obviously a must. Check out my profile, if you're interested in a private encounter, get in touch with me. If you don't enjoy oral (giving too) there's no need to reply back to me. Catch up with you soon. PS I assume you know of some good local hotels/motels? Don't think this will work out well at my cousins house ;-) -------------------- plentyoffish is still better I'd say.

| A story about PassionAds.com Posted: 10/21/2005 3:52:43 PM | Yeah, be very careful with these sites. Enough men out there, like myself, thinking with their d!cks to create millions of millionaires.
I got some spam from a site called mate1.com, and I made a profile. Now I keep getting e-mails that I need to join to be able to read. Hmmm, too much of a pattern in this; no way in hell, but I feel like spreading the word so other idiots like myself don't fall for it.
Me is a Ph.D. too..., but also a man.
Does anybody know mate1.com? I can't find anything by Googling "mate1, scam".
Help appreciated! | |

| A story about PassionAds.com Posted: 1/31/2006 5:10:36 PM | | Ok on this 60 day rule. I called my credit card company and told them i did not place the charge. Well the credit card company told me to call the phone number that showed up on the bill to get them to it reversed. Well when you call adult dating site or their collection agency and tell them you did not make this charge. Of course they start asking a lot of questions well when everything is done they credit your card back but then they talk about investigating (I am not sure if this is a scare tactic they are now using) but they talk about a trace back to the IP addresses where the credit card was used etc. How true is this and does anyone believe they would actually waste the money and time to try to persecute you especailly after they decieved you to join? | |

| A story about PassionAds.com Posted: 12/27/2006 11:40:45 PM | Hi guys. Yeh Passionads is a rip off par excelance !! Heres a clue that should be obvious to all, but we blind ourselvesa to it :.....................................................................................................................................
If most women on the site are hot, its a rip off !@!@! Look out your window... are most ladies on the street hot ? then why do we think most on a web site ought to be ? a real web site will have the full spectrum, and in fact will MATCH you with many "ordinary" or lesser attractive women. Good luck to all my fellow hopefulls out there, male and female both!
