| Safe Posted: 9/18/2006 11:01:03 AM | Do you feel safe in your area to walk the streets during the day or night?
I am ok during the day.. but do feel a little anxious at night time... but i dont go out alone often after dark anyhow!!!!

| Safe Posted: 9/18/2006 11:03:28 AM | | Yeah I feel relatively safe where I live. The gangs on kids on the end of my street are a nuisance though. But where I am scared is where I have to wait for the bus home in winter, its ok in summer as its lighter and you can see further but in winter its so dark and quite remote compared to the rest of the area and I actually have a panic alarm in my pocket just in case. But not too bad when my friend from work is on same shifts. lol | |

| Safe Posted: 9/18/2006 11:05:48 AM | | Yeh I feel safe, but if ever I do feel wary, I have my keys in hand (they are quite sharp too) Anyone attacks me and they will have a huge scar on their face for the rest of their lives lol | |

| Safe Posted: 9/18/2006 11:12:27 AM | No i dont feel safe round here! They're all chav-ish, drug taking, violent, white cider swilling
louts!! And thats just the lassies!! They congregate in groups on the corners and shout abuse
at anyone who has the misfortune to cross them in the street. I live in the Bronx!! And to
make matters worse.. a few days ago after a gang of these charver girls started on me and
ambushed me & my buddy, i ended up kicking one of them all over the street and now ive
got the whole bloody lot (family aswell) after me!! Sheeeeesh i mean! They kick off & get
violent so i retaliate and now im being hunted by the bloody poxy geordie charver mafia!!!
So NOOO i dont feel safe!!

he's gotta be quick and he's gotta be fresh from the fight................'

| Safe Posted: 9/18/2006 11:12:59 AM | I live out in the country and am always out on my own day and night. But I'm amazed how many people are shocked when I tell them I've been hiking for a couple of hours on my own (though I do have a large black dog along for company)
Before this I've lived in Liverpool, Birmingham and Shrewsbury and have always walked on my own in many ways I think this is easier for me as a single woman than it would be for either of my brothers both of whom tend to avoid walking on their own in the city at night.

| Safe Posted: 9/18/2006 11:24:17 AM | I generally feel safe during the day. Although my son was approached by someone demanding his mobile off him, my son just shouted nooooo! into his face and the lad backed off. I think its down to confidence if you look like a victim, chances are you will be. We were promised to have bobbies on the beat in our area, over a year ago havnt seen them yet though. | |

Before this I've lived in Liverpool, Birmingham and Shrewsbury and have always walked on my own in many ways For the most part Shrewsbury is safe to walk around on your own, but there are an increasing number of areas where I wouldn't risk it.
It's sad really.
I was out on a walk one evening a few years ago in Monkmoor (Shrewsbury) (I think I was 17) and was cornered by a group of about 5 lads. They started the old "whatchu been sayin about us?" ritual and I just said to them that if they wanted to beat the shit out of me to just go ahead and do it, because "my life is shitty and I'm just about to throw myself in the river, so you'll be doing me a favour".
They sort of looked at me a bit strangely and said "Woah dude, whateva" and then strolled off and left me alone.
I don't know whether I'd try that tactic again in future, but it made me laugh at the time.

then camp is surrounded by eight foot fence topped off with barbed wire, we have an armed guard wandering the perimeter, and guard dogs patrol inside the wire. not to mention the security cameras every fifty metres.
still goes down as "street parking" on my car insurance tho...?????

| Safe Posted: 9/18/2006 11:45:56 AM | I thought this was going to be a thread about street language .....
OT Yes i feel safe but the cats and dogs where i live are armed to the teeth so dont pee on the wrong tree or grassy patch if you need to have an emergency jimmy riddle although being a hitman im usualy ok.
Edit Also its safe to drive through Hackney in London as its a "nuclear free zone" but gun crime is on the up.

Should be safe in Monkmoor, the police stations there Gaz lol. Ditheringtons the dodgy place as I remember. Yeah, the cop shop is at one end of Monkmoor. The cops themselves though are all in the pubs elsewhere
Ditherington is the original "dodgy place" of Shrewsbury, and it hasn't gotten any better. There are other bad areas now though, Sundorne being the next bad one AFAIK.
I'm fortunate, I live in Frankwell now which is probably the nicest part of Shrewsbury both in terms of local amenities and the local idiot population

and popular for flooding to Gaz. Actually, it doesn't flood here any more because the Council built their new headquarters here so decided to protect their investment by building a truckload of flood defences ;)

| Safe Posted: 9/18/2006 1:27:40 PM | Forget my area, I don't feel safe walking anywhere at night!!
It's not even the areas themselves but the PEOPLE who reside in these areas.
|
| Safe Posted: 9/18/2006 1:30:43 PM | | Crime is not too where I live. Never walk home on my own though. You just can't risk it can you? | |
|
| Safe Posted: 9/18/2006 2:09:21 PM | | I am lucky I feel perfectly safe day or night in my town. Came back from Wembley on Friday night and was sh*t scared though. Every time the underground stopped and one person got on I wondered if I would make it to the next station, but I got back in one piece. Thank goodness. | |

| Safe Posted: 9/18/2006 2:12:45 PM | I live in a bad area of Glasgow, it earns its nickname Slash City very well.
Think I've said enuff, off hiding under my bed now
