| VIRIS WON'T LEAVE Posted: 9/23/2006 2:23:13 AM | | If your PC came with OS CD i.e windows Xp CD, do a Complete reinstall. This is the simplest method I can give you if you have tried spyware & virus removal programs already. There are other ways to search it out and remove if you are an advanced user. | |

| VIRIS WON'T LEAVE Posted: 9/23/2006 6:55:05 AM | | Try running this online virus scanner from TrendMicro called Housecall: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ | |
|
| VIRIS WON'T LEAVE Posted: 9/23/2006 9:34:44 AM | | or you could go to bitdefender.com and run their online scan......it will repair, or delete most viruses......and if it cant then do a search on google for the repair. No need to reinstall windows for most viruses.....that is just foolish | |

| VIRIS WON'T LEAVE Posted: 9/23/2006 10:01:15 AM | | I have to agree with slow hand... it can take hours for a professonal to completely remove a virus and often involves editing the registry. Quite honestly is often quicker and easier to reload than repair, for a novice user I recommend a reload, especially if she just got it. | |

| VIRIS WON'T LEAVE Posted: 9/23/2006 11:04:42 AM | Of all the virus/spyware/trojan programs I have tried and believe me I have tested a great deal.
Nod32 seems to be the best of all of them. I would suggest downloading a trial of this program and running it.
http://www.eset.com/
ClamWin Free Antivirus is also a very good free program.
I like Nod32 because of the way it protects the OS, take a look at it.

| VIRIS WON'T LEAVE Posted: 9/23/2006 12:45:17 PM | First off.... turn off your caps lock. LOL, it's considered rude and frowned on by the mods.
To download cut and paste any of the urls (addresses) in you browser.
Adware has a free download as do many of the others mentioned above. Still having problems, post here and I'll email you instructions.

| VIRIS WON'T LEAVE Posted: 9/23/2006 2:31:18 PM | two major factors everyone has missed
firstly if the virus/trojan is resident in memory most scanners are unable to delete it which in turn allows it to reinfect upon next boot
rebooting into safe mode will run the pc without loading memory resident programs to do this restart the pc and press and hold f8 untill you get the boot menu, at this stage you can select safe mode to start the pc, hopefully your virus scanner will be able to delete it in safe mode
another problem is that if the pc has made a restore point since before you found the virus, it could be contained in one of the restore archives and not actually be an infection remaining on your pc, to remove this you need to turn off restore point and turn it back on, this will delete all restore points you can find this at start>all programs>accessories>system tools

| VIRIS WON'T LEAVE Posted: 9/23/2006 2:33:24 PM | I have sympatico security manager, which didn't stop whatever this is and i have swept it with nod32 and my own. It says that it has cleaned up my computer. So i ran my own anti-viris and it says that I am not infected but if I go into my anti-viris log that thing is still there but my computer is working good. so exactly what is it. Well i guess I will get someone who can look at it and see what exactly it is. Maybe it is nothing. But thank you to everyone for all there suggestions, I tried them but it is still but my computer says it is not infected. Thank u all.

Nod32 will scan the memory first and will inform you that it will clean the problem upon next reboot. The advantage of Nod32 it will stop the problems from trying to connect.
While I agree with you about booting in safe mode, more often you can solve the problem without having to go that far.

| Virus Won't Leave Posted: 9/24/2006 9:26:26 AM | NOD32 is by far the best there is. It has a near perfect record for finding in-the-wild viruses and it beats all the others by a long shot. It has some really great features too.
Like Sentio said, NOD32 has a 30 day trial, which is fully functional. If you want completely free antivirus software, try out Avira AntiVir at www.free-av.com but I'd say run NOD32 first and let it find your problems.

| VIRIS WON'T LEAVE Posted: 9/24/2006 8:30:44 PM | The best thing to do IS to take it to a professional, who can do a DOS scan on it. This will scan the computer without running Windows itself, which will allow detection of any memory-resident viruses (as the other poster mentioned). If you don't want to spend the money, you can back up all your important data and do a system recovery using the recovery discs that came with the computer. Most computers now actually have the recovery software on a seperate partition on the hard drive which can be accessed by pressing a certian button (i.e. F11) at start up. Make sure to choose the option NOT to save any files, because if you just re-install the operating system over top of the old one the virus will still be there.
In the mean time, try a few online scans, like the trendmicro one mentioned before, and don't do any online banking until you are sure that the virus is gone. Make sure you are using a good anti-virus program, and use (free.grisoft.com) AVG if you don't already have one. Make sure it gets updated atleast once a week.
Good Luck | |

| Virus Won't Leave Posted: 9/25/2006 12:06:44 AM | For anyone who's interested, you can get an excellent, up-to-date, free DOS virus scanner here:
http://www.f-prot.com/download/home_user/index.html
F-Prot latest virus signature files here:
http://www.f-prot.com/currentversions.html
To use F-Prot for DOS as an on demand scanner in Windows, add a shortcut to F-Prot.exe to your Send To folder. That way, you can scan a file by sending it to F-Prot. Works great.
