| Reptile shows Posted: 9/23/2006 2:20:39 PM | For those of you not to squeamish, in the market for supplies, animals or just sightseeing of a family nature, you may be interested in the Alberta Reptile and Amphibian Society fall show and sale [small admission fee], this weekend 10am-5pm both days in the Ambrosia Room at SAIT in Calgary. Parking is available, but probably limited. The LRT is the best bet, especially as the show is literally just inside the campus from the LRT station access.
The Edmonton Area Amphibian and Reptile Society will be hosting its fall show and sale NEXT weekend, but I don't have the information handy...something about old fort road.
AlbertaBeef is here both days, I probably am too [depending on motivation, since I haven't set up shop in a couple years]

| Reptile shows Posted: 9/23/2006 3:32:34 PM | | Is this the same one they used to hold at the Round Up Centre? | |
| Reptile shows Posted: 9/23/2006 3:34:22 PM | Lovely, I went the the rabbit and parrot show last weekend...lots of smaller birds, 2 parrots and about 15 common types of rabbits...but I enjoyed it.
Thanks, I'm planning to attend
| Reptile shows Posted: 9/23/2006 3:53:34 PM | | Same as the round up center, Bridgeland community, North Glenmore, and Ogden Legion. Only did Round Up once - too expensive. | |
| Reptile shows Posted: 9/23/2006 5:15:13 PM | | The Spring show at the Sands in Edmonton was a good one. Thats where I got my boa. I used to travel to Calgary twice a year for the Spring and Fall shows when they used to have them at the Ogden Legion Hall, I'm absolutely delighted that they finally bring them to Edmonton too! | |
| Reptile shows Posted: 9/23/2006 5:21:36 PM | Thanks for th ereminder! LOVE these shows! Had 31 poison dart frogs, 2 red eyed tree frogs many fire belly toads and 5 snakes and 7 leopard geckos. Lost custody of all but frogs tho. Planning to build a huge terrarium! Will definately be there! You going Captain? | |

| Reptile shows Posted: 9/23/2006 5:57:10 PM | | We bought our cornsnake at the round up about 3 years ago. We love him/her/it. | |
| Reptile shows Posted: 9/23/2006 8:14:47 PM | | Actually, the shows weren't 'brought' to Edmonton. Edmonton formed its own society and started their own shows a few years ago. I started the Calgary shows around 1989 partly as a way to boost Society membership. A branch of TARAS was formed in Red Deer several years ago, and started hosting shows there as well.. I'm HOPING to get back into the shows full force by spring, but I may have to get involved in planning and executive again :S | |
| Reptile shows Posted: 9/23/2006 9:41:22 PM | Edmonton always had a cheesy little show...as far back as 7 yrs ago if I recall correctly, the past two that I have made it to here in Edmonton have been more reminiscent of the Calgary ones...with more of the old familiar breeders. GOD I miss being in the middle of that world!
Life is short...I should get back into it because I loved it.
| Reptile shows Posted: 9/23/2006 9:47:47 PM | I may have to get back into it just because I see lots of problems to be fixed :P
That, and I got used to having the best displays
Quality of shows increased as they grew. At one point the Calgary show was largest in the country, thus drawing exhibitors [vendors] from across the country. Troubles being, shows themselves have become businesses everyone wants to run, so they've become more numerous; organizers have become vendors and lost sight of their priorities, and sales have been VERY uneven from one show to the next. Whatever it is, one spring a show will be swamped and cash will flow. The next spring everyone looks, noone spends, and vendors fly home at a loss. It's not so bad for BC and Alberta exhibitors, as many wouldn't miss it, just from a social perspective. So many of those, though, have businesses to run and have to consider the profit/loss ratio too.

| Reptile shows Posted: 9/16/2007 10:06:02 PM | | That time again - The Alberta [Calgary] fall show, this coming Saturday and Sunday, 10:00AM-5:00PM at the Ogden Legion. The next 6 Calgary shows will be at the same location. The Edmonton show will be the following weekend, as will the Calgary orchid show. The Calgary fish show follows a week later. Woohoo! I can do 'em all, except Edmonton! | |
| Reptile shows Posted: 9/16/2007 11:52:39 PM | | Where is the Ogden legion? .......for those of us who don't live in Calgary | |
| Reptile shows Posted: 9/17/2007 12:21:40 AM | | That'd be 2625-78th Ave SE, Calgary. Just downhill [north] of Glenmore Trail on Ogden Road. More info at albertareptilesociety.org Ugh...so little time, so little to spend :S | |
| Reptile shows Posted: 9/17/2007 5:52:49 AM |
...Where is the Ogden legion? .......
That would be a left turn off Glenmore if you are eastbound at Ogden Rd. ( a right turn if you are westbound) (Glenmore Inn will be on the N. E. corner of the intersection) then make a left turn at 78th Ave. S. E. (there is a train in front of the building) and then a left into the parking lot.

Pack and transport 24 species for display and about 60 animals for sale. Landscape the last displays. Refill printer ink. Gonna be a looooong night. Note to self - buy lozenges, as I'm likely to be hoarse by 3pm Saturday.
