| how well do Pets adjust Posted: 9/23/2006 5:12:02 PM | | Hi guys I have a question. I have a friend who is having twins next month first time mom too. yeah I know wow she'll have her hands full. She has a cat that she's have for 13 years. she's really worried that the cat will not adjust to the lil ones. The last time I was over there and this was 2 weeks ago the cat looked sooooo unhappy. I guess I should mention that the guy she's going out with can't stand the cat won't help out with the cat at all and will not have the cat anywhere near him. She want me to take the cat in but I already have 3 cats. Ok my question is how well do pets adjust to the new members of the famliy. Or should I take a risk and take the cat in. | |

Nothing makes me madder than people who treat animals as disposabe just because situations change in their lives.
A close second are people that encourage relationships with people who can't stand their pets. I could NEVER go out with someone who didn't accept my dogs. If this means I live out the rest of my life alone, so be it.
For me, my dogs are my kids. If I had a nickle for every friends of mine that said they wanted to be reincarnated as one of my dogs I'd prolly have at least a buck!

Me too. I love my dog and she's going to be a big part of my life for a loooong time. I couldn't imagine dating a man who didn't like my dog...
Misswolf, I think you should try to take that cat in for the sake of it's sanity. Hopefully it isn't the jealous type and will get along with your other cats... I once had to give my old cat kitty anti-depressants because he was VERY jealous of my other cats.

| how well do Pets adjust Posted: 9/23/2006 5:41:59 PM | I think pets adjust well to new members of the family.
I feel sorry for the cat though and also can't imagine a relationship if someone hated the cat that bad.
Must be hard for your friend. I don't know how she can't resent the guy for that and that would definately tarnish the relationship.

| how well do Pets adjust Posted: 9/23/2006 5:51:50 PM | | Listen to the cat. He doesnt like the cat and it is obvious the cat feels the same. ( They generally like everyone and have a great sense) SO in a nutshell.. Get rid of the guy..The cat is trying to tell you something. | |

| how well do Pets adjust Posted: 9/23/2006 6:27:17 PM | | Mysterious that a good question. I e-mailed her yesterday to find out how the cat was going because when I was over there 2 weeks ago the cat looks like it wanted to hid or something. The cat looked at me and really meawed .Anyway I got an anwer but not the one I was hoping fore. she says that the cat follows her around the house and as she puts it wont leave her alone. I mean all the cat wants is some love hummmmmm it making me wonder maybe I should take the chance and take the cat in. | |

| how well do Pets adjust Posted: 9/23/2006 7:19:28 PM | | I defanley have to do alot of thinking and adjusting to make at my place. my place is a 1 brm but with all of my stuff it makes my place look small. so I'm just getting rid of the furniture that I'm not useing like the love seat. That will make it look bigger but I have alot of thinking to do. | |

How is she adjusting to her new life? Is she fitting in with your other cats?

| how well do Pets adjust Posted: 10/24/2006 5:26:37 PM | Excellent! I was just reading this thread and was hoping you would take the cat in. Im sure it will be very happy with you, as you seem to love cats. If only there were more people like you there would be a lot less homeless or unloved pets. | |

Answer:
sometimes circumstances change :(
some of us have no choice. I am already grieving having to find homes for my 2 dogs. It is hell just thinking about letting them go. But I have no choice. And I would rather find them both new homes than have them put down. Both have tons of love to give to the right person. I am glad the cat has a new home :)

| how well do Pets adjust Posted: 10/24/2006 7:32:24 PM | I'm relieved to see you took the poor thing in. My initial thoughts were that the cat wouldn't have time to adjust to the new additions... the bf would find some way to say the cat was mean to the babies... wouldn't have lasted more than 2 months after the birth i bet.
Good for you! It will be tough but so worth it.

You saw a need for this poor little cat (really reliant completely on caretakers) and decided to take care of it.
I too applaud you.

| how well do Pets adjust Posted: 10/28/2006 5:47:44 PM | | well my friend brought her over last week and wow she hissed and browled like crazy. I tryied to sleep with her that night and wow did not like it at all. Her name is Babycat and she's 16 years old. I have her in my room untill she's calm enough with my other 3. I have a pet gate up so that she can see them and they can see her. 4 days ofter she came to me I was in the living room and make sure my cats was with me. I left the bedroom open so that if she wanted to she could come out well she did for a spilt second. | |

| how well do Pets adjust Posted: 10/29/2006 1:53:43 AM | When I bought my house I made the mistake of buying it from my aunt and uncle, when they left they also left their cat here, she was at least 13 and I had a 2 year old cat and 2 kittens at the time. The inherited one Had never been with another cat and she wouldn't come out of her room at all I ended up taking her and some kitty litter and some food back to my family and making them take her back, Now apparently she's happy again and so are they. But what I'm really getting at here (sorry, I ramble) is that if the cat came out for even a split second you’re defiantly making headway. Tiny (the one I gave back) would not come out of her room At all for any reason. So at least you've got a little hope for socializing her. Good luck with it! And I respect you for doing it, most wouldn't and it's always nice to see someone with a good heart. Janine | |

| how well do Pets adjust Posted: 5/26/2009 10:03:10 PM | Question for those of you that love your pets and let them in your house/on your couch/sleep on your bed.
If you met someone 'special' would you evict your pet from your couch/bed/house?
