| | Sweet Misery - A Poisoned World (Aspartame)Page 1 of 2 (1, 2) | Hi All, I feel compelled to share this story with you in hopes that it may answer some health issues you or someone you know might be experiencing. It is a bit long but well worth your time to watch it. If it becomes fractured, just pause it for 10-15 min to allow the "buffer" to advance then continue. Peace, Larry

Not good when you're inclined this way and are also using the stuff in drinks and gum in the hope of dropping some weight while only increasing the causes. What are we doing to our children? H

If you have a point of discussion to start with I think I understand.... So, if I were to say: "I saw the movie Sweet Misery - A Poisoned World on a Google page and thought it was something everyone should watch. Has anyone else seen it and if so, what are your thoughts about artificial sweeteners and collusion in the industry?" then added the link I would be within the posting rules?

| Sweet Misery - A Poisoned World (Aspartame) Posted: 10/17/2006 2:21:04 PM | Yeah, i didn't go to that link, but have heard bad things about aspartame, and more than a cup of diet pop per day bad for you. Heard of the bleeding brains of rats when ingest it. sucralose a derivative of sugar though, and never had same affect in rats when ingested, so if folks looking for alternative. i don't use much, just half that, half sugar in coffee cuz i drink so much of it. Although more expensive, but again, might be worth the extra dough for people with weight issues, or if ya just think sugar has no nutrional value and why bother... unless it beer... lol . i'll check in that link though, some scary facts out there about the artificial sweeteners.
oh great. read link, and splenda may suck too, oh well, i'll give it to my bro/roomie, lol. oh wait, he's a brute, so if he gets bleeding brain rage i'll be in trouble. to the garbage it goes, or maybe ebay, better hurry before the news gets out. hurry up with bid folks, goin' cheap. if i get the address wrong on mailing, don't blame me. i got a bleeding noggin' here... would explain my profile acutally...

| Sweet Misery - A Poisoned World (Aspartame) Posted: 5/16/2007 7:25:42 PM | Are you allowed to do this? I'll just have to wait for my rap over the knuckles. H
SWEET BUT POISON In October of 2001, my sister started getting very sick. She had stomach spasms and she was having a hard time getting around. Walking was a major chore. It took everything she had just to get out of bed; she was in so much pain. By March 2002, she had undergone several tissue and muscle biopsies and was on 24 various prescription medications. The doctors could not determine what was wrong with her. She was in so much pain, and so sick. She just knew she was dying. She put her house, bank accounts, life insurance, etc., in her oldest daughter's name, and made sure that her younger children were to be taken care of. She also wanted her last hooray, so she planned a trip to Florida (basically in a wheelchair) for March 22nd. On March 19th I called her to ask how her most recent tests went, and she said they didn't find anything on the test, but they believe she had MS. I recalled an article a friend of mine e-mailed to me and I asked my sister if she drank diet soda? She told me that she did. As a matter of fact, she was getting ready to crack one open that moment. I told her not to open it, and to stop drinking the diet soda!!! I e-mailed her the article my friend, a lawyer, had sent. My sister called me within 32 hours after our phone conversation and told me she had stopped drinking the diet soda AND she could walk!!!! The muscle spasms went away. She said she didn't feel 100% but she sure felt a lot better. She told me she was going to her doctor with this article and would call me when she got home. Well, she called me, and said her doctor was amazed! He is going to call all of his MS patients to find out if they consumed artificial sweeteners of any kind. In a nutshell, she was being poisoned by the Aspartame in the diet soda...and literally dying a slow and miserable death. When she got to Florida March 22nd, all she had to take was one pill, and that was a pill for the Aspartame poisoning! She is well on her way to a complete recovery. And she is walking!!! No wheelchair!!! This article saved her life. If it says 'SUGAR FREE' on the label; DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!! I have spent several days lecturing at the WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCE on "ASPARTAME," marketed as 'Nutra Sweet, ''Equal,' and 'Spoonful.' In the United States in 2001 there is an epidemic of multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus. It was difficult to determine exactly what toxin was causing this to be rampant. I stood up and said that I was there to lecture on exactly that subject. I will explain why Aspartame is so dangerous: When the temperature of this sweetener exceeds 86 degrees F, the wood alcohol in ASPARTAME converts to formaldehyde and then to formic acid, which in turn causes metabolic acidosis. Formic acid is the poison found in the sting of fire ants. The methanol toxicity mimics, among other conditions, multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus. Many people were being diagnosed in error. Although multiple sclerosis is not a death sentence, Methanol toxicity is! Systemic lupus has become almost as rampant as multiple sclerosis, especially with Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi drinkers. The victim usually does not know that the Aspartame is the culprit. He or she continues its use; irritating the lupus to such a degree that it may become a life-threatening condition. We have seen patients with systemi lupus become asymptotic, once taken off diet sodas. In cases of those diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, most of the symptoms disappear. We've seen many cases where vision loss returned and hearing loss improved markedly. This also applies to cases of tinnitus and fibro myalgia. During a lecture, I said, "If you are using ASPARTAME (NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc) and you suffer from fibro myalgia symptoms, spasms, shooting, pains, and numbness in your legs, cramps, vertigo, dizziness, headaches, tinnitus, joint pain, unexplainable depression, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, blurred vision, or memory loss. You probably have ASPARTAME poisoning!" People were jumping up during the lecture saying, "I have some of these symptoms. "Is it reversible?" Yes! Yes! Yes! STOP drinking diet sodas and be alert for Aspartame on food labels! Many products are fortified with it!!! This is a serious problem. Dr. Espart (one of my speakers) remarked that so many people seem to be symptomatic for MS and during his recent visit to a hospice; a nurse stated that six of her friends, who were heavy Diet Coke addicts, had all been diagnosed with MS. This is beyond coincidence! Diet soda is NOT a diet product! It is a chemically altered, multiple SODIUM(salt) and ASPARTAME containing product that actually makes you crave carbohydrates. It is far more likely to make you GAIN weight! These products also contain formaldehyde, which stores in the fat cells, particularly in the hips and thighs. Formaldehyde is an absolute toxin and is used primarily to preserve "tissue specimens." Many products we use every day contain this chemical but we SHOULD NOT store it IN our body!!! Dr. H. J. Roberts stated in his lectures that once free of the "diet products" and with no significant increase in exercise; his patients lost an average of 19 pounds over a trial period. Aspartame is especially dangerous for diabetics. We found that some physicians, who believed that they had a patient with retinopathy, in fact, had symptoms caused by Aspartame. The Aspartame drives the blood sugar out of control. Thus diabetics may suffer acute memory loss due to the fact that aspartic acid and phenylalanine are NEUROTOXIC when taken without the other amino acids necessary for a good balance. Treating diabetes is all about BALANCE. Especially with diabetics, the Aspartame passes the blood/brain barrier and it then deteriorates the neurons of the brain; causing various levels of brain damage, seizures, depression, manic depression, panic attacks, uncontrollable anger and rage. Consumption of Aspartame causes these same symptoms in non-diabetics as well. Documentation and observation also reveal that thousands of children diagnosed with ADD and ADHD have had complete turn a round in their behavior when these chemicals have been removed from their diet. So called "behavior modification prescription drugs" (Ritalin and others) are no longer needed. Truth be told, they were never NEEDED in the first place! Most of these children were being "poisoned" on a daily basis with the very foods that were "better for them than sugar." It is also suspected that the Aspartame in thousands of pallets of diet Coke and diet Pepsi consumed by men and women fighting in the Gulf War, may be partially to blame for the well-known Gulf War Syndrome. Dr. Roberts warns that it can cause birth defects, i.e. mental retardation, if taken at the time of conception and during early pregnancy. Children are especially at risk for neurological disorders and should NEVER be given artificial sweeteners. There are many different case histories to relate of children suffering grand mal seizures and other neurological disturbances due to the use of NutraSweet. Unfortunately, it is not always easy to convince people that Aspartame is to blame for their child's illness. Stevia, which is a sweet herb, NOT A MANUFACTURED ADDITIVE, helps in the metabolism of sugar, which would be ideal for diabetics. It has now been approved as a dietary supplement by the FDA. It is known that for many years the FDA outlawed this true sweet food," due to their loyalty to MONSANTO Chemical Company." Books on this subject are available: EXCITOTOXINS: THE TASTE THAT KILLS written by Dr. Russell Blayblock (Health Press 1-800-643-2665) AND: DEFENSE AGAINST ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE- written by DR H. J. Roberts, also a diabetic specialist. These two doctors will soon be posting a position paper with case histories on the deadly effects of Aspartame on the Internet. According to the Conference of the American College of Physicians, "We are talking about a plague of neurological diseases directly caused by the use of this deadly poison." Herein lies the problem: There were Congressional Hearings when Aspartame was included 100 different products and strong objection was made concerning it's use. Since this initial hearing, there have been two subsequent hearings and still, nothing has been done. The drug and chemical lobbies have very deep pockets. Sadly, MONSANTO'S patent on Aspartame has EXPIRED!! There are now over 5,000 products on the market that contain this deadly chemical and there will be thousands more introduced. Everybody wants a piece of the Aspartame pie." I assure you that MONSANTO, the creator of Aspartame, knows how deadly it is. And isn't it ironic that MONSANTO funds, among others, the American Diabetes Association, the American Dietetic Association and the Conference of the American College of Physicians? This has been recently exposed in the New York Times. These cannot criticize any additives or convey their link to MONSANTO because they take money from the food industry and are required to endorse their products. Senator Howard Metzenbaum wrote and presented a bill that would require label warnings on products containing Aspartame, especially regarding pregnant women, children and infants. The bill would also institute independent studies on the known dangers and the problems existing in the general population regarding seizures, changes in brain chemistry, neurological changes and behavioural symptoms. The bill was killed. It is known that the powerful drug and chemical lobbies are responsible for this, letting loose the hounds of disease and death on an unsuspecting and uninformed public. Well, you're informed now!!!!

Aspartame
Aspartame, brand name Nutrasweet, has been an artificial sweetener in wide use since 1981. It is a derivative of the essential amino acid, phenylalanine, which is commonly found in most protein sources. It was discovered on accident when a chemist combined phenylalanine with aspartic acid (another amino acid), tasted it and determined it was sweet. Aspartame is 160 times sweetener than sucrose, and is commonly found in diet soft drinks and numerous food products. It has no calories, carbs, protein or fat and does not spike insulin levels, as sucrose does - making it safe for diabetic consumption. The only issue with aspartame is with individuals who have a disorder known as "phenylketonuria", which is what the cryptic warning on soda cans refers to.
There are numerous sites on the internet claiming that aspartame is dangerous and can cause a wide variety of ailments. Everything ranging from heart attacks, brain tumors, cancer, and death is attributed to aspartame, with absolutely no medical data to prove it. There is a ton of misinformation on this chemical. For no good reason, it has been demonized by some individuals who seem to have a vendetta against the medical community, the government or chemical companies. I guess someone forgot to tell them about all the antifreeze in their shampoo. Still, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, these people refuse to believe that aspartame is safe. You'd have a hard time convincing me that two amino acids that are found in everyones diet are dangerous when combined, which is a major fault in the logic of their argument. Yet, the myths still persist.
The truth is aspartame is one of the most clinically studied chemicals in the world, with an overall excellent safety profile. The ADI (acceptable daily intake) for aspartame is 40mg/kg.
Here are some reads on the topic: Aspartame Info from Wikipedia Aspartame History & Synthesis w/ molecular diagrams Aspartame Myths Debunking from Snopes Aspartame Info from the FDA Calorie Control info on Aspartame Aspartame Safety Review by Paul Cribb from AST
Now on to the studies. Note that these are the most recent studies on the subject. The first two are by Nutrasweet, which some may claim as being bias. However, keep in mind that these are peer reviewed medical studies and there are many more where this came from for individuals who want to take the time to research the facts. Over 20 years have elapsed since aspartame was approved by regulatory agencies as a sweetener and flavor enhancer. The safety of aspartame and its metabolic constituents was established through extensive toxicology studies in laboratory animals, using much greater doses than people could possibly consume. Its safety was further confirmed through studies in several human subpopulations, including healthy infants, children, adolescents, and adults; obese individuals; diabetics; lactating women; and individuals heterozygous (PKUH) for the genetic disease phenylketonuria (PKU) who have a decreased ability to metabolize the essential amino acid, phenylalanine. Several scientific issues continued to be raised after approval, largely as a concern for theoretical toxicity from its metabolic components--the amino acids, aspartate and phenylalanine, and methanol--even though dietary exposure to these components is much greater than from aspartame. Nonetheless, additional research, including evaluations of possible associations between aspartame and headaches, seizures, behavior, cognition, and mood as well as allergic-type reactions and use by potentially sensitive subpopulations, has continued after approval. These findings are reviewed here. The safety testing of aspartame has gone well beyond that required to evaluate the safety of a food additive. When all the research on aspartame, including evaluations in both the premarketing and postmarketing periods, is examined as a whole, it is clear that aspartame is safe, and there are no unresolved questions regarding its safety under conditions of intended use. Quote: Aspartame: scientific evaluation in the postmarketing period.

Prior to marketing, the safety of the high-intensity sweetener aspartame for its intended uses as a sweetener and flavor enhancer was demonstrated by the results of over 100 scientific studies in animals and humans. In the postmarketing period, the safety of aspartame was further evaluated through extensive monitoring of intake, postmarketing surveillance of anecdotal reports of alleged health effects, and additional research to evaluate these anecdotal reports and other scientific issues. The results of the extensive intake evaluation in the United States, which was done over an 8-year period, and the results of studies done in other countries demonstrated intakes which were well below the acceptable daily intakes set by the FDA and regulatory bodies in other countries, as well as the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives. Evaluation of the anecdotal reports of adverse health effects, the first such system for a food additive, revealed that the reported effects were generally mild and also common in the general population and that there was no consistent or unique pattern of symptoms that could be causally linked to consumption of aspartame. Finally, the results of the extensive scientific research done to evaluate these allegations did not show a causal relationship between aspartame and adverse effects. Thus, the weight of scientific evidence confirms that, even in amounts many times what people typically consume, aspartame is safe for its intended uses as a sweetener and flavor enhancer. BACKGROUND: Neurobehavioral symptoms have been reported anecdotally with aspartame. OBJECTIVE: This study sought to determine whether aspartame can disrupt cognitive, neurophysiologic, or behavioral functioning in normal individuals. DESIGN: Forty-eight healthy volunteers completed a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study. The first month was aspartame free. Subjects then consumed sodas and capsules with placebo, aspartame, or sucrose for 20 d each. Order was randomized and subjects were assigned to either a high- (45 mg x kg body wt(-1) x d(-1)) or low- (15 mg x kg body wt(-1) x d(-1)) dose aspartame group. Neuropsychologic and laboratory testing was done on day 10 of each treatment period to determine possible acute effects and on day 20 for possible chronic effects. RESULTS: Plasma phenylalanine concentrations increased significantly during aspartame treatment. Neuropsychologic results; adverse experiences; amino acid, insulin, and glucose values; and electroencephalograms were compared by sex and by treatment. No significant differences were found for any dependent measure. CONCLUSION: Large daily doses of aspartame had no effect on neuropsychologic, neurophysiologic, or behavioral functioning in healthy young adults.

| Sweet Misery - A Poisoned World (Aspartame) Posted: 5/17/2007 3:29:15 PM | | There is an alternative to the chemical sweetener. It is called "stevia", can use it for baking cooking, coffe, etc. It will lower your sugar if you have sugar problems. You can buy this in healthfood stores. some grocery stores carry it. One last point, it is highly concentrated, so you only need one drop in a coffee! | |

| Sweet Misery - A Poisoned World (Aspartame) Posted: 5/18/2007 7:58:12 AM | frogsandprincesses...so true my dear! I recommend stevia all the time. even better, get the plant. I'm told one can just take a leaf off and swirl it in ones coffee to sweeten it.
^^^^^^^ New guy....as a matter of fact...yes immunization can cause A LOT of dis-eases of the body. But nice of you to be soooooo cynical and close minded. My child DOES NOT have immunizations for many, many reasons. I DO KNOW both sides of the fence... sounds like should go exploring.

what's next? Immunizations are causing autism?
Ironic...new guy was being smart*aleck, and someone had to take it OT.
I'd say I hope your kid gets small pox or polio, but thank god we immunized everyone and basically eradicated them from the planet. It's too bad, I'm glad my parents weren't as careless and selfish as you are. ^^^I'd say you're being really cold, callous newguy -- but you are right, thank god for HERD IMMUNITY, too!

| Sweet Misery - A Poisoned World (Aspartame) Posted: 5/18/2007 8:16:59 PM | Oh newguy...my world is completely great!
I live in a world where I encourage my NATURAL ability to heal, and it prevails for the most part...and if it should falter I use natural products to regain health. On a few occasions I have had to utilize the chemical drugs out there...but guess what...when I need western medicine it works! Wanna know why...cause I don't abuse them.
As for being "careless and selfish" quite the contrary my 24 year old california friend. I do know both sides of the fence, and I work in both Eastern and Western types of health care.
As for thinking it would be nice if my kid got smallpox...might I suggest you get your head out of your a$$, do some legitimate research... then you could reply with such rediculous SUBSTANTIATED comments.
I suppose you were raised on cows milk too...such North American fallacies just keep continuing every generation...
What a world we live in! Thank GOD we all have choices.

your magic land where diseases don't exist
Hey Newguy, Let's take a moment to look at diseases.... Bacterias and virus's cause disease in the natural world but what we're seeing in this modern age of medicine are MAN made. Through lack of nutrition, downright deceptive, dangerous advertising and production we're poisoning ourselves in the name of money. Garbage in = garbage out, take a look around you. BTW When is the last time we cured anything? Oh, Polio? Only reason for that was Dr. Saulk wanted to cure his ill wife. Modern medicine (BIG Pharma) doesn't want you cured, there's no money in it.
The dairy industry wants you to believe their crap is healthy for you but nothing could be further from the truth. I could go on and on but we're a society who have been led, bred and brainwashed into believing our government and big business is doing things in our best interest.

Did you see the posts about Codex Alimentarius?
Hi Outdoor. Yes I have and while the rest of the country sleeps and dreams their way through drug induced life we are being sold down the river by the very government who is bound by law to watch over us. To allow BIG PHARMA a hand in making nutritional law is alarming in any sense of the word. We are so blinded and brainwashed we cannot see the real agenda behind EVERYTHING they do and that is profits. It's ALL about the money and they'll pill you along until you drop. Until people realize it's the poisons in our food and water making us sick and that's just the way BIG PHARMA wants it we are doomed to their bidding. Our medical community doesn't want you healthy. Healthy people don't need medical communities..... A VERY large portion of our wonderful service economy.

| Sweet Misery - A Poisoned World (Aspartame) Posted: 5/21/2007 4:11:15 PM | The World Health Organization (WHO) just happened to release its life expectancy statistics last week.
GENEVA - A boy born in San Marino, a tiny republic surrounded by Italy, will likely live to age 80, the world's longest male life expectancy, but newborn girls in Japan and 30 other countries have even better prospects, the World Health Organization said Friday.
Sierra Leone registered the shortest male life expectancy at 37 years — the same as that of girls in Swaziland, who were at the bottom of the female list, WHO's "World Health Statistics 2007" show.
Females in Japan, who traditionally lead the world tables, have a life expectancy of 86 years, the same as last year's statistics. San Marino men, who tied with Japanese men last year at 79, added a year to get ahead.
Men in the United States have a 75-year life expectancy; U.S. women could reach 80.
WHO said the life expectancy figures were based on 2005, the latest year available. It said statistics kept by its 193 member countries may vary in some cases because it had computed the figures itself to ensure compatibility.
Following San Marino on the male side were Australia, Iceland, Japan, Sweden and Switzerland at 79 years and then Canada, Israel, Italy, Monaco and Singapore at 78. France was tied for 12th place at 77 years with a group of countries including New Zealand and Britain. Germany was at 76 years. Cuba was among the countries that tied the U.S. for 33rd place at 75 years.
Countries with long-living women include Monaco, 85 years, and Andorra, Australia, France, Italy, San Marino, Spain and Switzerland at 84. Canada tied Iceland and Sweden at 83 years for women, and Germany was in a group at 82 years. Britain came in at 81 years.
Costa Rica and Denmark tied the United States for 32nd place at 80 years.
Afghanistan is the toughest place for babies, with an infant mortality rate of 165 in 1,000 live births, compared with the two babies who die per 1,000 born in Singapore or Iceland. But Sierra Leone is worse than Afghanistan for mothers' survival, with a maternal mortality rate of 2,000 per 100,000 live births. The rate for Afghanistan was 1,900. Ireland did best at four deaths, followed by Spain, Italy, Finland, Canada and Austria at five deaths.
Diet is often given as a major factor in life expectancy, but the report did not give specific reasons for each country's showing. However, it noted that many of the countries that fared badly spent much less money on health. It also noted that tobacco use had a "high prevalence among the world's poorest people," and suggested that the low life expectancy in some countries could be linked to high rates of diseases like HIV/ AIDS and tuberculosis.
The US has an unusually high HIV and TB prevalence, along with obesity and a lack of exercise (just 15% of American adults exercise regularly) - this probably accounts for the relatively lousy ranking of the US in life expectancy.
