| wearing fur Posted: 9/27/2006 10:28:59 AM | There have been a couple of protests in the last few days at fashion shows over the models wearing real fur
If someone offered you a mink coat to wear would you wear it. If yes and someone approached you and asked if it was real , would you say yes, or say it was fake..
|
| wearing fur Posted: 9/27/2006 10:35:48 AM | | this is always going to be a tricky one to answer. i fish, i hunt, yet killing an animal just for its fur doesnt seem right to me. if it was killed for its meat then the fur was used as a biproduct then i wouldnt mind so much | |
|
| wearing fur Posted: 9/27/2006 10:37:21 AM | | No i deff wouldnt wear a mink coat as if no-one bought the things then these animals wouldnt be killed so inhumanely in order to keep someone warm. I have however had a few fake fur jackets, there is nothing wrong with fake and it looks just as good PLUS nothing has to die in order for you to wear it! | |
|
| wearing fur Posted: 9/27/2006 10:40:11 AM | No i would not wear fur, although i do have a fury strip on me in the winter it is my own fur
VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV yes, it would look good on you as a moustache
|
| wearing fur Posted: 9/27/2006 11:34:34 AM | yes I'd wear it and yes I'd tell them.
But if somebody offered to buy my a fur coat, I'd say no.
|
| wearing fur Posted: 9/27/2006 11:36:20 AM | | furs not my style but if it stopped me from being cold give it here | |
|
| wearing fur Posted: 9/27/2006 11:39:40 AM | Is it brand new ??? If it were an antique fur then I'd snap his hand off, my friend has a bearskin rug that is over 200 years old and I adore it .. I've told her if ever she gets bored of him it's mine... There are furs I wouldn't mind wearing , I mean I wear leather and suede and sheepskin, but a rare fur or a fur that has come from a disreputable source then no... Maybe it needs better governing and labelling so that farmed furs from animals kept humanely were freely available then maybe there would be less black marketeering going on...... | |
|
| wearing fur Posted: 7/24/2007 6:18:54 AM | I have considered myself an animal lover since a young age, however, i have worn my moms friends mink coat and it feels devine on.
So if someone offered to buy me a fur coat my answer would be "hell yeah" i would wear it and not think about where it has actually come from just like i do every time i eat meat or poultry.
|
| wearing fur Posted: 7/24/2007 6:32:57 AM | I have a little handbag mirror, and on the back of it is written:
Fur coats are worn by beautiful animals, and ugly people.
I agree with my mirror.

| wearing fur Posted: 7/24/2007 7:00:57 AM | Alot of 'fake' fur is real fur anyway they just say 'its so good you cant tell the difference' so yeah it needs to be governed better with labelling etc.
A few years back, when mukluks were the height of fashion, I got a pair, everyone loved them till I said they were real, then they acted horrified, but still they adored the boots (double standards anyone ?). My mukluks were coney fur and made by the native indians in Canada I think, so I chose to believe they were made from the fur of the animals they had hunted for themselves. Coneys are rife everywhere as well so it didnt make me feel bad about that, i mean governments are trying to wipe some of them out so why not use part of them that would otherwise be left to rot or burnt. They may well have been mass produced but they looked good and that was the only thing going through my head when the b/f bought them.
Fur I wouldnt wear is things like mink, chinchilla, fox, wolf etc etc etc, anything we didnt use any of their by products that I know of so that IS just killing for the fur. So more or less I would probably only wear coney since many a person eats rabbit and there are millions of them, of course should they ever near extinction my opinion will definitely change on this, but right now..........everyone has the right to wear what they want and not be abused for it. It may offend people, it may upset people, but thats how life works.

errr..... I would take it and would prefer not to ask whether the mink coat is real or not. And i'd prefer not to say whether its real or not..

| wearing fur Posted: 7/24/2007 7:43:13 AM | I don't like fur coats, real or fake. It reminds me of those women in the films in the late seventies or early eighties, in new york, with their diamond earrings, and expensive jewellery. And dumb women thought 'I'd like to look as beautiful and glamorous as she does!'.
More money than sense. Glamorous my arse, they are so shallow and do not give a hoot for anyone but themselves.
In the end, all the money and riches and prize possessions they have collected over the years, will become like dead fish in the moonlight, it may shine, but it stinks!
|
| wearing fur Posted: 7/24/2007 8:15:41 AM | Just because the lable says 'fake' doesn't mean it's necessarily so !
A lot of fur entering the UK is at the moment being DNA tested to identify it's source - as companies in China are using Labrador fur, Alsation fur, cat fur and rabbit fur as trmmings or complete coats.
I wear leather, suede and sheepskin too. when my mum died she left her mink coat for my daughter to wear. If someone questioned either of us, we'd check the labels on their clothes, bags and shoes before answering - "yes -how about you?"
|
| wearing fur Posted: 7/24/2007 8:22:12 AM | I wouldnt wear fur no matter how old it is, mind you if my cat died i could make a cool hat out of it, but then again its ginger so perhaps not! | |
|
| wearing fur Posted: 7/24/2007 9:19:59 AM | | I wouldnt wear fur...I did go into Ilva at the weekend its a furniture shop and they had a whole load of cow hides hung up some painted like tigers...had a very interesting conversation trying to explain to a 4 year old that yes it was real cow and why it was there and painted like a tiger!!! | |

| wearing fur Posted: 7/24/2007 9:21:20 AM | I am rather on the fence on this one, I mean in this country we dont need to kill animals to use their skins/fur for warmth and protection, we're lucky. But Im pretty sure some Native American and Inuit tribes dont have the luxury of a Primark to nip down to!!
This may sound pretty harsh but all life is based on survival of the fittest, humans have evolved to use their hands, brains and skills to survive, just like plenty of other animals who have killed humans. Such as lions, tigers, bulls, sharks, crocodiles, the winner is obviously the fittest!!
Humans needed the furs to keep warm and stop hyperthermia/pneumonia etc, and the meat to feed themselves & their families..
What is the difference between that and a lion killing a zebra to feed her cubs? Or a shark killing and eating a seal??
Personal choice, ive never possessed nor worn a fur coat and the one that Pete Burns wore on Celeb BB put me off them for life!!! lol
But theres always the other side of the argument and reasons and therefores!!!

| wearing fur Posted: 7/24/2007 9:36:04 AM | Why should animals suffer pain and torture for our selfish materiaslitic needs and vanity? For example some Burrbery jackets inside materials are made from dog and cat fur in China, these animals are kept in tiny cages and on occasions skinned alive.
I would post links to various animal welfare sites which educate and make people aware of what goes into a "fur" coat but it's against forum rules, so do you own research if interested (if you have the resilience and stomach for it).

Since when do we need fur in order to survive in this day and age? If you a part of a tribal culture, like eskimos then fair enough I have no quarrels with that.
A shark kills a seal to eat and survive, a lion kills a zebra to eat and survive. What do humans kill animals for? Entertainment, profit, money, vanity, materialism, greed... it's nothing about survivalism.

| wearing fur Posted: 7/24/2007 9:56:01 AM | ^^^^ I did say 'needed', as in past tense, as in years ago......
I am not for fur at all, as also noted....
The comparison I was making was that animals kill animals for food and at a very basic level arent humans simply animals aswell??
I agree that some hunters kill for entertainment, profit, money, etc etc... But back in the days it was for foooooooood.
Even nowadays in some amazonian/african tribes humans kill animals for food as they wont be able to go cook up a nice tofu bean curry would they?!!
At the end of the day I dont like fur and I'd never wear it which is the OP of this thread..., but Im not going to be one of these bleeding hearts who dont eat meat for ethical reasons, I LOVE a bit of meat I do ;) But then I wouldnt go around enforcing my barbaric, murderous, evil meat loving ways on vegetarians.... live & let live (unless ya can get sirloin steak outta it)
|
| wearing fur Posted: 7/24/2007 10:13:35 AM | Sorry I misread needed as need.
I have nothing against people eating meat but only the methods and conditions animals are kept in. Every animal has a right to day light, water and food daily yet we are oblivious of mass production methods that goes on in abattoirs and warehouses.
Anyway back on topic, no I wouldn't wear fur unless I was butt naked in Alaska!
|
| wearing fur Posted: 7/24/2007 10:21:35 AM | In 1982, I was in our local newspaper for throwing paint over some fur coats in a well known furriers in West London. I got a fine of £75, which was worth every penny. Not long after that, the furrier locked its doors to anyone without an appointment that was vetted. | |
|
| wearing fur Posted: 7/24/2007 10:37:29 AM | I've no problem with fur coats. Mink are farmed for their fur and would probably be extinct if they weren't. They are after all vermin.
They certainly wouldn't exist in the wild in this country as left wing tree huggin tw*ts wouldn't have released them to destroy just about every living aninimal and bird in their territory
|
| wearing fur Posted: 7/24/2007 2:07:37 PM | Fur is the best thermal insulation you can get, and most clothes you buy cointain animal byproducts in one form or another. Mink are vermin and should be reported to the EA whenever they are spotted, they will removed quicktime, you want their skin to be incinerated? thats a waste imo. | |
|
| wearing fur Posted: 7/24/2007 2:11:54 PM | is it not against the law to own a "new" fur coat? my mother has 3/4 from the 70's/80's when they were in fashion. i would not want or have desire for a fur coat. i think if fur coats are not illegal, its going to become the same situation as regards ivory. where "new" ivory is highly illegal but old ivory is ok. my personal views are full of hate to people who distroy/kill animals for vainity

| wearing fur Posted: 7/24/2007 3:16:06 PM | I think it's sick that these animals are treated like machines and commodities rather than living creatures with emotions. Their suffering and death stems for the simple purpose of creating a luxury garment that serves no practical purpose.
I'd like to see the models who agreed to wear real fur crammed into tiny cages or how about they visit a fur farm and see how the Minks are really killed.
There was a programme on a while back about this, and investigations found Mink are usually gassed or violently injected with poison. Many just have their necks broken or are asphyxiated. Some Minks are even killed with weed killers, which can cause the animals to convulse for up to 10 minutes before death. That is pure evil to let them suffer like that for the sake of fashion!
And it's not just Minks that's are killed for fashion. Millions of animals like foxes and Chinchillas are killed for their fur.
I can't remember the exact number, but i think it can take up to a 100 Mink to make one coat. Turns my stomach and i think it should be banned all over the world. I know some country's banned fur farms, but it still goes on.
If someone offered me a genuine Mink coat, i'd shove it as far up their ass as i could. It wouldn't come close to the suffering these poor animals go through.
If it was fashion to wear dog fur, would people still buy it because it was fashion. Most likely, the sick fookers. But because dogs are the much loved family pet, there would be uproar if they were killed, skinned and made into items of so called fashion clothing. It's all wrong, and i would never ever wear real fur. It's sick.
*Takes a step off her soapbox*

| wearing fur Posted: 7/24/2007 3:20:54 PM | willow if someone offered me a mink coat i would not wear it. i would called them a few choice words though.the killing of an animal just to wear its fur is sick and really has no place in the 21st century. | |
