Ok... I just had some updated lab work done...

In addition to high cortisol (which is now under control from 8 months of using supplements and dietary changes) my estrogen came back High... at 64 pg/ml... Quest lab says 54 is the cut off for normal range... but they have 30 listed as the cut off for optimal ranges...(had it checked about a year ago and it was 46... still high and started taking DIM supplements)

Main symptom I've been having is weight gain and inability to lose weight dispite diet and exercise... I had attributed this soley to my cortisol... but my Doc thinks the estrogen may be a bigger culprit... He just started me on Arimidex .5 mg twice a week....(I had been taking DIM for a while but it did not seem to help)

Question... I know body builders deal with high estrogen at times... Has anyone experienced weight problems from high estrogen ? If so.. were you able to start losing body fat once you got it under control...?

This is frustrating as

I'd recommend Nolvadex, few of my friends use it cuz they are hardcore lifters, keeps their estrogen low.

Your doctor is correct it is not your Cortisol, it is your "Excess Estrogen" !!!! Because of your high cortisol, your body is holding and storing fat, which accounts for your high "Estrogen" !! The supplements and your dietary changes, also were the culprit in producing more fat, for the estrogen receptors.

When in excess, estrogen promotes the growth of estrogen sensitive tissues, leading to an increased size of adipose (fat) tissues in the waist, belly and other estrogen sensitive fat tissues: For men, typically in the belly and chest; for women, in the belly, lower butt, upper thighs and sometimes in the back of the arms. In some cases, excess estrogen causes feminization of men's bodies with conditions such as genecomastia.

The solution to excess estrogen requires the means to counterattack estrogen and its excess in a natural and safe way.

Estrogen isn't one hormone, but rather a group of hormones and their metabolites. Estrogen hormones and their metabolites compete with each other on binding to estrogen receptors. Most important, estrogen can convert into two kinds of metabolites: beneficial and harmful - one or the other.

One of the hormones produced by the adrenal gland is converted to a form of estrogen by an enzyme called aromatase. Arimidex suppresses this enzyme and thereby reduces the level of estrogen circulating in the body.

Its commomn knowledge that as we age are bodies own natural hormones start to slow down, which can be contributed to the main culpert in aging. You may want to see your doctor and see if your a canidate for hormone repalcement therapy. Another thing to look into is your diet, making sure your getting enough good fats, protein and nutrients in your diet

Thanks... Had all that done...

A estrogen level of 64 is pretty high... again quest diagnostics has the optimum range from 10-30...

And yes male estrogen goes up as we age but I'm only 39...

I eat pretty low processed carb, healthy protein.... alcohol can raise your estrogen... but mine is in the low to moderate range...

Most of my lab work came back in the normal range... My DHEA is a a bit low but high estrogen can throw that out of wack... and my testosterone is normal... which you sometimes see low T to high E ratio

My doc is continuing to do test to look for the source and I'm ppretty confident the Arimidex will sweep the existing estrogen out....

I'm more concerned with my ability to drop the few lbs I'm can't seem to get rid of even with exercise...

My doc says theorectically that level of estrogen would keep me from losing weight... but I want to get some "Real life" exeriences with it... Again I know alot of body builders deal with estrogen....

Its interesting, you mentioned alcohol consumption can raise estrogen levels in men. I think alot of men don't know this, if they did, I don't think drinking alcohol would be nearly as popular as it is now. Some men think, the more you can drink, the more of a man you are, when actually the more you drink, the more you become like a woman(higher estrogen).
On a side note, something I took in the past just to see if it would help me was a product called 6-OXO by Ergopharm(got it at GNC). Its supposed to naturally raise testosterone while lowering estrogen. It definitely did seem to have a beneficial effect on me, not big, but definitely noticeable.

as far as legal supplements go 6 oxo is the only one i would bother with. arimadex is the best drug for reducing estrogen i use 10mg of tamoxifen every day for about 3 weeks when i feel i need to get my estrogen levels in check . as soon as estrogen levels are normal you should have no problems shifting that stubborn fat . im no expert but the dosage of arimadex you are on sounds quite low to me . good luck mate !

Before increasing the doseage of "Arimidex", new "Lad Work" should be done. Mainly for "High Blood Preasure", the LDL (High Level) and the HDL (Lower Level), should be in the normal to safe range. Lad work should also include testing for "Bone-Loss", depending on the lenght of time, you have been on this medication.

Yes, the Airmidex will help lower your Estrogen, but is not going to happen over-night. You sound like a very intellengent person, so I don't have to tell you, that our bodys are not all the same, and what may work for someone, well not always work for you.

Besides the medication, you will need to watch your diet "Very Closely", like staying away from, Alcohol, Chocolate and Carrots, just to name some, check with your doctor.

Base on what you have posted here, such as "Cortisol", which by the way we know it as, "The Stress Hormone", and the issue you have with "Estrogen". I'm going to suggest the following, in addition to the medication, and your normal excercise habits.

....Try "Okuma's Wu-Long Chinese Slimming Tea, proved to burn over 150% more Calories than green tea. Will reduce Saturated Fat Absorption and the Fattening Effects of Carbs. The worse that could happen by drinking this tea........is that your "Skin", will cure itself from Acne.

....Get plenty of "Sleep", learn new "Relaxation Techniques" like "Meditation".

Don't get "Impatience", and stick to it, because your body is changing with age, "Body Builder" or not.

Good Luck To You.......................Benz !!!!

I have high estrogen levels and have had some success in switching to free range poultry, eggs and beef. Synthetic estrogen injected in stock animals to FATTEN THEM UP is then eaten and "transferred" if you will, and stored in our bodies. Yes, estrogen and fat cells have a direct relationship...the more estrogen in the body, the more fat is stored, and the more fat that is stored also contains higher estrogen levels.

Estrogen is everywhere, found in different levels, in the foods we eat, the liquids we drink and even the air we breathe.

It has been found that natural progesterone will drive down high levels of estrogen. Natures Sunshine came out with a 500 mg. cream that they recommend for MEN and WOMEN who have high estrogen problems. Emerita is another brand that has had tested success.

I have been using the cream daily, and also take 6 - 500 mg. Green Tea capsules throughout the day to boost my metabolism, and an herb Valerian and Vitamin B Complex to keep myself calm throughout the day to address Cortisol production. I often substitute Whey Protein for animal proteins. I would NOT recommend Soy Protein as it is high in natural estrogen and can block thyroid (metabolizing) function. Have you done a liver cleanse? Besides the thyroid gland, the liver is also responsible for metabolism. I recently read an article regarding SESAME OIL as a fat purgative (moving fat out of the fat cell).

And although I have tried the Okuma's Wu-Long Tea, I did not see satisfactory results as I had expected. I am into food groups and make sure I eat NO PROCESSED OR PACKAGED food. Everything is fresh or frozen and mostly in the raw state. The fat under my skin is melting rapidly...so apparently I am finally doing something right. Good luck to you.

Hi Duchessaa,

In deed you are doing something right....., and more of us should try it... if we want to put "Life" back in our bodies !!!! You have discovered that, eating "Life-Foods" as opposed to "Dead-Foods", is the way to go !!!! If you really want to see the fat under your skin melt away like a rocket to the moon..., just increase the "Life-Foods" to 90% of daily intake !!!! With a set goal to increasing it to..., "100%" !!!! Your body might go into a little shock for about a month, but after that..., you better get ready for a shopping-war, for all the new apprarel you're going to need !!!! Not to mention how healthy and happier you will be, with the new you !!!!

When I talk about "Life Foods", I'm talking about..., "Enzymes" which you get from eating..., "Raw Foods" !!!! Enzymes equals..., "Energy" which translates to..., "Life" !!!! You might not be able to see enzymes with your naked eye, but you will see the energy and life as a direct result of enzymes !!!! Now..., "Dead Foods", is when you eat..., "Cooked Food", which means, once the food reaches about 116 Degrees F (46.6C), you have killed the enzymes in the food !!!! Look at cooked foods as a..., "Bad Habit" or an "Addiction", that you must..., "Quit", like any other bad-habit or addiction that you may have !!!!

Let me put it this way......, say you have two apples one has been baked in the oven, and the other is raw !!!! Plant them both in the ground, which one will bare life or fruit ? !!!!

Or lets say, you eat the baked one, in order for your body to digest it, your body must use it's own enzymes, leaving you tired and feeling sluggist afterwards !!!! Now if you eat the raw one, you will feel good and full of energy because the apple carries the enzymes within it to digest itself !!!! Your body does not have to put out extra effort to digest the apple !!!!

Keep this in mind as-well, if you are over 40 Years Old, you only have about 30% of your enzymes left !!!! So making it more important for you to start changing your diet to..., "Life Foods" as opposed to "Dead Foods" !!!!

Good Luck To You.........................................................Benz !!!!

Reducing excess fat, particularly excess saturated fat, and making sure you get enough polyunsaturated omega-3 fats, goes a long way towards modulating estrones released from fat cells. Its not that the body overproduces esterogen per se, its that the it has an excess of fat hormones (estrones) released into the blood stream. Excess cortisol also binds to estrogen receptors, but more importantly, its binds very well to progesterone receptors.

Dietary changes, correction of sleep habits, a regular pattern of cardiovascular activity and modulation of blood sugar by actively working the muscles *anaerobically* by resistance training, and daily use of stress management techniques are first and foremost the best means of longterm control of adrenal steroid hormone imbalances. Its thyroid hormone function, as much as adrenal steroid balance, that has the ability to correct adipocyte (fat cell) activity that results in elevated estrones in circulation.

None of this is new - BJ has already spoken of the importance of whole foods and the dietary connection, the importance of correct sleep hygiene, and stress management.

http://www.oasisserene.com/hormones/complications-progesterone-cream.html

Is a website that comments on the use of progesterone creams and the inherent problem of bioaccumulation of progresterone in tissues when used chronically.

To avoid this problem, you need to have periodic lab testing to assess the active concentration of progesterone released into circulation from subcutaneous fat stores.

Too much is as problematic as too little. Caution is advised in use of these creams.

Something I wanted to point out, I think we need to be careful about saying what kinds of fats to avoid. Not all saturated fat is bad for instance. Human mothers milk has saturated fat in it yet its the healthiest milk humans can drink(much healthier than formula which sadly so many mothers are giving their babies now instead of breastmilk). Also, extra virgin coconut oil is a healthy form of saturated fat. Of course too much of anything can be a bad thing, I would just say that good forms of saturated fat in the right amounts can be a good thing.

Agreed...

I dont use letrozole excdept in a competition diet, because it kills my sex drive, offseason I use arimedex when I have too... But often I dont, because I get no gyno, and the extra estrogen increases strength...

Try arimedex if you just want that leaner, unbloated look. Me, I only need to look good on whatever saturday I pick :p

Stay far away from all soy based products. They turn men into women... FAST.

Take Tribulus Terrestris to boost your test levels.

Just my 2 pennies...

Regarding the Arimidex... what dosages do you use... The standard male dose is .5 twice a week... This is what is recommended by cenogenics and my own doc follows it as well... since arimidex is really designed for women... there are no agreed apon ranges for men...

Just listen to your doctor. take what he tells you, avoid 6-oxo like someone else hinted at I believe, you can get estrogen rebound from it. Don't mess with your hormones more than you need to. Arimidex works and works well. Just stick with what the doc ordered. With lowered estrogen levels you will also get less water retention in female trouble areas. The dose he prescribed sounds fine to me. That is typical for use by bodybuilders.

Stay away from all soy based products -
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Very important post

Contrary to popular belief - soy is not - and never was a health food
In fact, it is unfit for human consumption.

>>>>>>>>>>> PLASTICS <<<<<<<<<

Plastic containers ""' leach ''' '' Petro-chemicals much like synthetic ESTROGEN

Food containers- wraps- suppliments ( bottled ) water ..........

Food and beverages in these containers will be contaminated with these synthetic estrogens

While there is a new standard considered safe

Its doubtful that most companies that package food, or bottle beverages- suppliments etc
use it at this present time

Plastic while being very convienient - and so widely used - is difficult to avoid

But whenever a choice presents itself- such as liquids in glass- paper etc etc
always choose the glass

At least........ after purchasing - foods- suppliments-beverages from mkts etc

Remove the product from its plastic wrapper and put in glass-metal-ceramic or other
containers

That is interesting about SOY... I've heard alot of conflicting info on it... generally I try to stay away from it... although it is in soooo many things... many protein drinks and bars have soy... I now just drink my 100% OP whey shakes... it would be nice to find a whey bar... noty sure if they are being made....

Regarding the plastics... I have heard this as well.... another tough one... plastic is everywhere....

Good advise !
