That place is pretty cool. Try Richmond Sushi, # 1488 - 8388 Captan Way, in Richmond. This place is so amazing! Sat and Sun evening after 9pm, all you can eat $14.00. Reservations are a must. # ( 604 ) 207 7778.

Well the best place in Vancouver, which I go there very regulary, is Sushiama on Broadway and almost Kingsway. Its across from the mall. I have gone to many Sushi places, all over the West Coast, Vegas, California, and this Sushiama, but Sushiama tops them for sure, I havent found anything I didnt like there yet. Prices are more then reasonable. Great service, sometimes too busy because its very small, best time to go, 11:30 am and later in the evening. My second choice is 7 Sushi in Chilliwack BC, they have come along way, but there rainbow Roll and Miso Soup are one of the best. My last choice is in Seattle, I would have to look up the name, but is by all the casino's (Hollywood Casino, just by there), if someone is interested I could easly look it up. Well thats my top three choices. Good luck Sushi hunting.... A good Sushi restuarant is word of mouth... Keep this thread going.

Hands down, "The Sushi Bar" on just in from the soth west corner of 4th at Burrard in Kits. The best spicy tuna sashimi, and lots ot other cool rolls - try the Moonlight Roll or the Kamikaze Roll and the gomae! Love it all.

I LOVE Shabusen! I like how you get the choice... Korean BBQ or Sushi.. or BOTH!
Another one would be Daimasu on Cambie and Broadway. :)

Agreed that Sushiyama is pretty tops, a casual spot. Gomae roll. Yum.

If you're keeping it East Side, try Toshi on Main & 16th -- it's a small place, so the wait in line is pretty long (~1hr on average), but it's a good opportunity to get to know your dining companion better? Fish is always fresh and the prices are crazy cheap (but they don't have very large portions)...

Downtown would definitely be Yoshi's on Denman -- Tuesdays and Thursdays there's always something special on the menu flown in fresh that day from Japan. A gem of a spot on the second floor, so you also get a view of Stanley Park.

If you want to splurge or impress your date, you owe it to yourself to try Tojo's on Broadway at least once if you haven't already -- it's pretty pricey, but Tojo is the said to be the inventor of both the BC Roll and the California Roll, so you know he knows his craft... He's always inventing something new, as well, so sit at the bar if you're feeling experimental.

Japanese Restaurant honours have to go to Guu -- no sushi, but all of the locations are good, especially Thurlow for it's home-brewed apple wine, reasonable prices and daily fresh sheets. It's always super busy, and pretty noisy, but all those exchange students looking for an authentic spot away from Japan can't possibly be wrong, right?

Again, if you want to impress, the more upscale EN on Granville is also the bomb -- inspired presentations and incredibly delicious dishes.

Some nice referals so far (Guu, Tojo's, Yoshi's... yum) but I'll add two more...

If your looking for authentic Japanese food instead of Chinese/Japanese or Korean/Japanese restaurants then two others I really like are:

Kibune Sushi on Yew st. in Kits is one of my personal favorites, right near Kits beach.

or

Zakkushi on 4th again in Kits which doesn't have sushi but is a very authentic Japanese grill.

Found a new sushi place last night. It's only been open two weeks. Found it by accident and it was the best sushi I've ever had.

It's on the corner of Seymour and Dunsmuir and is called Yume. I was with my folks and we ordered the medium party tray (California Roll, Chopped Scallop Roll, BC ROll, Dynamite Roll, 3 Tuna, 3 salmon, 2 Ebi, 2 Hokigai, 2 Tobiko) Was suppossed to serve 2-3 people and since we were 3 with fairly large appetites, we ordered an extra Bill's Roll (Tam Tempura and Smoke Salmon) For $33 we STUFFED ourselves.

Service was excellent, polite, friendly and very thankful staff. The waiter wouldn't let me tip him, so I snuck back in the restaurant and left a tip on the table. I can't wait to go downtown again.

I sooo miss living in Vancouver with all the choices of places to get sushi. I used to frequent a few different places in Yaletown and downtown Vancouver. I wish I could remember the name of the place on Davie near Bute where my sister takes us whenever we visit since she lives around the corner. They've got some really good and colorful rolls. Shabusen, always a popular/fave spot to go with friends. Actually made myself sick on all-you-can-eat sushi dinner for $21 there! The eyes were bigger than the stomach. Oops! LOL
Next time I'm down in Vancouver I really would like to splurge and check out Tojo's. I saw him on the Food Network show, Chef at Large with Michael Smith who was apprentising with Tojo. Pretty cool stuff. The presentation of his dishes were beautiful.

Irashai on 41st in Kerrisdale-pricy, but very good

Shijo's West 4th avenue upstairs, also pricy but fresh

U-Bento Arbutus and Broadway, fresh fish...service isn't the friendliest

Shabusen...wouldn't go there, got food poisoning from their raw fish.

But I'm picky about my sushi.

I would recommend Sakae, located on Thurlow at Robson. It's been over a year since I ate there, but I had the best (and biggest) chicken teryaki box lunch special that I've had anywhere in Vancouver and for a pretty decent price too.

I live in north east BC and love it here, but I also love to spend time in downtown Vancouver on Robson Street. There are so many really good sushi restaurants in the vicinity and I make sure I visit several of them. You guys are so fortunate to have so many to choose from...........

Lots of fish are on the endangered species so keep that in mind I have tended to stop going to sushi places because the oceans are getting over fished there is plenty of other non environmentally damaging things to eat.

Has to be sushiyama. If your looking for good value though, the best place has to be king house sushi in kerrisdale at about 37th and west boulevard. Also around 70th and Granville. King house has a house roll and each piece is the size of a Macdonald's cheeseburger.. good, but hard to make a good impression on a date while trying to eat. There is simply no graceful way to...

There is a Sushiyama on Broadway just east of Kingsway, but next to it a fwe doors down (close to Scrape Records) is Jiro Sushi. The guy who runs it is brilliant and friendly, and his quality and portions are really good. He has also been friendly with myself and a few friends giving us freebies from time to time.

I was just wondering what people consider a good price and what they consider costly? I know these things can vary from person to person. :)
