Bad taste or funny?
Posted: 9/29/2006 10:48:42 AM
Since everyone now owns a mobile phone, it seems with every tragedy within seconds of hearing about it, I recieve a joke on my mobile. Some are funny, some I feel embarrassed about laughing a little too and others are just plain bad taste!

Do you get many of these jokes?

The one I got today was a little late but maybe sent now we have the all clear. Here it is:

Lily Savage has been caught shagging Jeremy Clarkson...! Another one of the Top Gear team F***** by a Dragstar...!

Funny or bad taste?

I have to admit I deleted all the Steve Irwin ones, I thought they were disgusting.

I have to admit some of them are in really bad taste, but because I must have a sick sense of humour, some do make me laugh...

I confess I have little humour about tragedy and find joking about it in bad taste. Now I'm labelled a killjoy I will add - what if it affected your nearest and dearest, fancy joking then?

I appreciate the need for 'gallows humour' but the people that think this stuff up are unfeeling idiots.

I don't think it's in that bad a taste, really. It's the British way, we make fun of everything.

I heard Frankie Boyle on Mock the Week saying:

"3 billion...thats the amount of Richard Hammond's car insurance renewal"

Everyone sort of went ouch...was in poor taste !

That's a mass response for you...

I bet Hammond would be the first to laugh at that joke.....

Humour is a good thing and its not necessarily bad taste, even if it is about someone biting the dust...

As someone said It's the british way not to take stuff seriously, even death...

Ps I liked the joked....

The joke from the OP is ok as Richard Hammond is alive and recovering, it is when the jokes are about mass tragedies and mass deaths that I have to draw the line.

Definately funny!....

There are tragedies happening every day, would it better if we cried and wailed 'oh my god why', all the time, of course not. So we laugh, it natures way of coping.
Because I laugh at tragic events, it doesnt mean I wouldnt be the first to offer help if it was needed, or rescue an animal in distress and I am always here to offer a shoulder for a freind to cry on. If I carried the grief of the worlds tragedies and accidents on my shoulders, I would go mad.

Thats British humor for you,not much that is beyond a good laugh. The thing is most of us will say publicly that we find a joke sick but 90% of us laugh in private.

hi all, well i have just found out that i was born with only one hip(i thought i was born with a dislocated hip) and when i told my mate she said that i can't sing the hippy hippy shake or hip hip hurray any more we laugh that much we almost drowned(we were swimming at the time) i do find some bad taste jokes amusing but i learned early on in life if you can laugh at yourself it doesn't hurt so much when other ppl laugh at you.
