| Any Happy people left in this state?

We all know its gotten pretty rough in this state lately, but Im noticing that there ARE a lot of angry people fed up with Michigan.
Looking to hear from the happy and un-happy...and to see if this can get more than 10 postings.  | |

Our economy is a wreck right now. Am I happy about that? No. But I have 2 jobs, a roof over my head, a car and food on the table. I'm one of the lucky ones; so many unemployed here. Just wait for the UP gas bills to start arriving this winter. *ouch* {mortgage or heat?}
I've thought of moving to Florida where I could make some actual money and pay off some of these accumulating bills. I wonder how many feel the same way? | |

Posted: 10/10/2006 7:49:08 AM | Happy would mean genuinely happy. Some of the michigan threads I've read have a lot of bitter people sounding off...at least it seems.
I can side with you on having the neccessities and a job...or 2. Im lucky in that regard myself.
As far as moving out of state...I seriously considered it myself and even posted a question in the Texas threads to see what kind of info I got...WOW!
Im sure alot of people feel the same including myself...especially when you take a look at other states that are really BOOOOMING...and have anywhere from 10-20% cheper cost of living. Take a look at the kind of home you can get in Texas for $150,000...things that make ya go hmmmm.... | |

Florida isn't the bargain it used to be, the economy is pretty weak over here, and with all the hurricanes, property insurance is through the roof.
I heard that Tennessee and Texas are great places to live, and my brother loves North Carolina where he is.
I have looked at houses in Texas, unbelievable what your money will buy there, I wonder how the schools are. | |

If people here wonder why Texas is soooo great....look at the thread. Just about everyone welcomed me and gave me advice.

I personally am happy in Michigan and will probably stay here forever - (knocking on wood) I have a good job - decent house - beautiful child - and good friends. And I am truly thankful for what I have - and my heart does go out to those who are experiencing the rough times....peace | |

It is nice living right next to one of the big lakes and I have a great job and also can you really enjoy the outdoors in Florida as much as you can here in Michigan? I can say I am happy living here and as long as there are jobs, I will continue to live here until I die. | |

would miss my family and friends and even my jobs some days. i've found that i can be unhappy anywhere or happy anywhere and that is up to me to find happiness in what i do and who i am. i was upset at work and i realized that it was just hurting me and wasn't changing anything, so i let rememberthe serenity prayer:
God, grant me the serenity to acept the things i can't change,
the courage to change the things i can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
sometimes it helps sometimes no.
i only can control my own self and how I feel. | |

I thank the big guy everyday for what i used to have and what i might have tomorrow. He only gives you what you need. Put a smile on your face and live life cause you cant take nothing you have now with you later. | |

Posted: 10/11/2006 8:13:12 AM | I'm not from Michigan, but I'm happy to be here. The schools are great, the trees are beautiful, and the decorations are starting to sprout in the yards in preparation for Halloween. I know the economy is tough, but my company is doing great and we're expanding. My son is pulling his grades up, and we've started to look at colleges. And, best of all, I have a date with the most beautiful woman in this whole fish market tonight!
I think a lot of the unhappiness that you perceive on here is depression. The loss of a loved one can have that effect whether from death, divorce, or a break-up. It's not a reflection on the overall happiness of the state of Michigan or any other state. Instead it's a temporary grief that will pass with time and the support of good company.
On the other hand, if you were actually asking the question because you thought we needed a hedonistic, blowout party to cheer everyone up, count me in. | |

Posted: 10/11/2006 9:39:08 AM | I've seen a lot of people moving to Chicago. As for me... I'd say happy no but thankful yes. But just because I'm not genuinely happy/elated/whatever with life, that doesn't mean I'm outwardly unhappy or bitter or anything. It's not a black and white thing, and on top of that "happy" could mean a variety of things. I used to go out with a nurse who wanted everything ranked on a scale from 1-10... actually a pretty good methodology.

I got ahold of the Albuquerque Journal, a Sunday edition and I could not believe the job listings they had....it seemed like pages. Housing is very reasonable there too. It is a very pretty place anywhere you go there I think. Just thought I would toss that out to anyone interested. | |

Seriously, I've been here all my life and have very deep roots here...never tempted to go elsewhere.
I'll grant that people who have lost their jobs, or are having trouble finding one, are entitled to be worried and even angry. But worry and anger in and of themselves are not going to fix anything. Sad as it may be perhaps their best bet IS to relocate( I'm NOT recommending Chicago)
I'm a retiree on a fixed income, and I did myself a TREMENDOUS favor by selling my home downstate(GR/Kent County) and buying a smaller place up here in north central MI. I have a dependable 4X4, so I don't worry about going where I need/want to go. People are nice here, it's easy to hire someone to do handyman work for a FAIR price( instead of trying to gouge me due to my former location and lack of a man to do my thinking for me).
I will admit that the gas prices this past summer did affect my fleamarket selling, and somewhat limit the amount of travel I could do to visit family/friends or just do fun stuff...but I survived it...
So yes overall I'd say I'm VERY happy!
