| Cinnabons - The only thing I found palatable in the US.... Posted: 10/19/2006 6:50:00 AM | Now CGBG's has been knocked down, the only reason I can think of to ever go back to the states would be to have some of them delicious Cinnabons.
Those things are really delicious, especially the one's in Cici's pizza place.
Can anyone give me:
a) a list of places in the UK from where I can get them
b) Send me some through the post (in return I can send you roast beef and horse radish)
c) Tell me how to make some nice ones easily.
Thank you | |

b) Send me some through the post (in return I can send you roast beef and horse radish) Marks & Spencer's lemon puffs would be much better ... would gladly send you some Cinnabon but with the new rules on shipping food products, don't think either of us wants to be bogged down for hours filling out the forms
c) Tell me how to make some nice ones easily. here ya go .. this is the knock-off recipe I found for my son - couldn't see shelling out $4.50 everytime he got a craving for one, not to mention it's much easier than filling out forms and hoping the food doesn't disappear in transit
Cinnabon’s Cinnamon Rolls
Dough: 2 pkg. active dry yeast 1 cup warm water (105-115°F) 2/3 cup + 1 tsp. granulated sugar, divided 1 cup warmed milk 2/3 cup butter 2 tsp. salt 2 eggs, slightly beaten 7-8 cups all-purpose flour, or more if needed
Filling: 1 cup melted butter, divided 1-3/4 cups granulated sugar, divided 3 tbsp. ground cinnamon 1-1/2 cups chopped walnuts, optional 1-1/2 cups raisins, optional
Creamy glaze: 2/3 cup melted butter 4 cups powdered sugar 2 tsp. vanilla 4-8 tbsp. hot water
In a small bowl mix together warm water, yeast and sugar and set aside. In a large bowl, mix milk, remaining 2/3 cup sugar, melted butter, salt and eggs; stir well and add yeast mixture. Add half the flour and beat until smooth. Stir in enough of the remaining flour until dough is slightly stiff (dough will be sticky).
Turn out onto a well-floured board; knead 5 -10 minutes. Place in well-buttered glass or plastic bowl, cover and let rise in warm place, free from drafts, until doubled in bulk, about 1 to 1-1/2 hours.
When doubled, punch down dough and let rest 5 minutes. Roll out on floured surface into a 15 x 20 inch rectangle.
To prepare filling: Spread dough with 1/2 cup melted butter. Mix together 1-1/2 cups sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over buttered dough. Sprinkle with walnuts and raisins, if desired.
Roll up jellyroll-fashion and pinch edge together to seal. Cut into 12 to 15 slices. Coat bottom of a 13” x 9” baking pan and an 8” square pan with remaining 1/2 cup melted butter, then sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup sugar. Place cinnamon roll slices close together in pans. Let rise in warm place until dough is doubled in bulk, about 45 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake 25 to 30 minutes, or until rolls are nicely browned. Cool rolls slightly.
To prepare glaze: In medium bowl, mix melted butter, powdered sugar and vanilla; add hot water 1 Tbsp. at a time until glaze reaches desired spreading consistency. Spread over slightly cooled rolls.
Cinnabon’s Cinnamon Buns for the Bread Machine (2 lbs. dough)
Dough: 1 cup milk 1 egg, beaten 4 tbsp. melted butter 4 tbsp. water 1/2 box instant vanilla pudding (3.4 oz. box) 4 cups bread flour 1 tbsp. sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 2-1/2 tsp. bread machine yeast
Filling: 1/2 cup butter, softened 1 cup brown sugar 2 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 cup chopped walnuts, optional 1/4 cup raisins, optional
Place all ingredients in your machine in order recommended by your machine's manufacturer. Place the pan in your machine. Select the dough cycle and press start. When cycle is finished, remove the dough, knead enough to punch down and roll to 17” x 10” rectangle. Combine first three filling ingredients and mix well. Heat in microwave 10 seconds to make filling easier to spread; spread over rolled dough with rubber spatula. Get as close to the edges as possible. Sprinkle nuts or raisins over dough. Starting with widest end, roll the dough into tight log. Cut into slices 1/2” to 1” thick. Place in a lightly greased baking dish with sides. Put in warm draft free place and allow them to rise until double. Bake at 350°F for 15-20 minutes. When the rolls are done top with frosting of your choice.
Note: For a real treat replace raisins in the filling with chopped dried cherries, blueberries or strawberries.
Cinnabon Frosting
1 lb. margarine 1 lb. cream cheese 2 lbs. powdered sugar 2 tsp. lemon juice 2 tsp. vanilla extract
Allow margarine and cream cheese to reach room temperature. Beat cream cheese and margarine together in a bowl with a mixer. Slowly add in all powdered sugar. Once all of the sugar is in the bowl mix for at least an additional 12 minutes. When almost done, add in the extracts.

| Cinnabons - The only thing I found palatable in the US.... Posted: 10/19/2006 6:04:10 PM | Is there anything you can't cook? WOW Personally...I burn water rather than boil it. My girls hate when I use the broiler....I've caught everything on fire by putting it in the broiler! I'm not much of a contributer since I don't cook but I must say that the recipes I've seen sound yummy.
I am always on the hunt for Quick & Easy recipes as I have MS and can't stand for more than about 10 minutes at a time...I bought a barstool to sit on while cooking and doing dishes...thank you.

| Cinnabons - The only thing I found palatable in the US.... Posted: 10/20/2006 5:09:46 PM | Thank you, you are a wonderful person. I will let you know how I get on.
If ever you fancy some contraband Marks and Spencers' Lemon Puffs just let me know and I will ask my Bolivian contacts to help me work our the logistics.
I had no idea that Lego land had Cinnabons. Is Lego an American thing then?

Posted: 10/20/2006 9:16:23 PM | Hope the recipe turns out but remember your flour is different that ours ... you have what used to be referred to as "strong" flour while we have the softer, winter wheat flour. But there has been a huge improvement in British flours in the last few years - the UK now supplies close to 80% of Europe with some of the best flour available.
If you try the Cinnabon's, look for an all-purpose flour, especially flour made from Riband, Consort and Claire wheat ... this is a great flour for cakes, pastries, and pies.
I had no idea that Lego land had Cinnabons. Is Lego an American thing then? Nope, Lego is a Danish invention ... seeing that I'm British/Scottish descent and my rugrats also have Danish/Finnish ancestry, I had loads of fun delving into the history of 4 different nationalities. Here's a quick blurb on Lego ... still family owned and the 6th largest toy company in the world.
The name 'LEGO' is an abbreviation of the two Danish words "leg godt", meaning "play well".
The LEGO Group was founded in 1932 by Ole Kirk Christiansen. The Company has passed from father to son and is now owned by Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, a grandchild of the founder.
It has come a long way over the past 70 years - from a small carpenter’s workshop to a modern, global enterprise that is now, in terms of sales, the world’s sixth-largest manufacturer of toys.
The head office is located in Billund, Denmark but there are subsidiaries and branches throughout the world, and LEGO products are sold in more than 130 countries.

Your guy could hook up with my guy but it might be easier for me to get my British passport and fly over ... dad was born in Bristol so my sons and I are eligible for both British and Canadian passports.

just checked Cinnabon's web site and the only one in BC is at the Vancouver Airport

| Cinnabons - The only thing I found palatable in the US.... Posted: 6/25/2007 6:49:02 PM | Cinnabon is great, but you know what I REALLY miss?
Cinnabon popcorn that Redenbacher's used to make!!! I can't find it anywhere, here in Canada anyways. Safeway and Walmart used to both carry it, but I think it was discontinued. That stuff was SOOOO addictive!

| Cinnabons - The only thing I found palatable in the US.... Posted: 6/25/2007 7:44:23 PM | After finally having heard the name enough I gave a cinnabun a try. Nothing that special. I'll take a caramel roll by mum first, anytime.
They might be better if they drop the corn syrup and use real sugar. Nothing uses real sugar anymore unless you make it yourself. With the corn syrup they can saturate it in unfulfilling calories, because corn sugar has 2/3rds the sweetness to the human palate as does real white sugar, and it never truly seems to satisfy that sweet tooth.
Ditto is this awful lemonaid sweetened with corn syrup! Yech!

| Cinnabons - The only thing I found palatable in the US.... Posted: 6/25/2007 9:23:23 PM | Dear dimethytryptamine; Personally I think cinnobons are the work of the devil. But you really must, go to Chicago airport one day. It is the Mecca for all thinds cinnobon.
I think you'd be better off with a pulled pork sandwhich in the hills of North Carolina but that's just me.
If you're in New York, which is much easier to get to, try Virgils within walking distance of Times Square and have a rack of baby back ribs and a key lime soda.

| Cinnabons - The only thing I found palatable in the US.... Posted: 6/25/2007 11:06:51 PM | Once again I am too lazy at the moment to copy my recipe down. Very yeasty, rich, rich, rich. Good stuff.
Obviously I'm not too lazy to comment I'm too lazy to post a recipe. I think it was the request for an easy recipe. It's a yeasted bread dough - there are steps - steps take time - dough is very sensual, sexy...soft...mmmmmmmm.
Do some googling - pick one with eggs, milk and butter in it. They are richer.
