Does anyone really believe that there are soul mates?

Just curious, I have given this alot of thought, and I think there is no such thing as soul mates, but I do believe that a couple can grow and understand one and other - through working together and then fit comfortably together. What do you think?

A soul mate doesn't necessarily have to be of the romantic kind. But I do have an awful lot in common with this here blowtorch.

I love you blowtorch.

I love lamp.

And soulmate is a scam that women created so they can sucker men into becoming their sexual and emotional hostages. This scam is also known as a 'relationship'. Beware of the scam men! Women are evil vampire life sucking carnivores!

I respect more often if they weren't such skanks all the time. And by all the time, I mean I love skanks.

*sigh* that's better...

O/T
I think the term soulmate is overused and overrated... I used to think I was soulmates with my ex, but have since discovered the truth... he was merely a stepping stone...

i believe in soulmates... but they really don't have to be of the romantic kind.

my bestfriend is for sure my soulmate - yes my bestfriend is a guy, but that doesn't mean its romantic at all.

Sure do. I often see people wearing the same shoes. Or complete strangers tell me they like the shoes I am wearing.

Yes, I believe soul mates is a fact.

...and yes, it is not necessary romantic.

I was living it seven/eight years ago and I am living it again this year. Back then it was a deep friendship. We clicked on so many levels but she had to move away for family reason and we drifted apart. We still write to each other.

Early this year this lady and I started tango lessons. Very soon we both came to realize that this may be more than friends, lovers and... (Our falling in love with each other was so smooth it happened with no effort at all) Seven months later we are still the best of friends and lovers, never had an argument over anything, enjoy each others company and any activities we share. Week days and evenings, we are both active in many things and this forces us to be apart over much of the week. Emails everydays and, when possible, long chats on the phone. But come Friday, oh la la......

Soul mate will not last forever. Modern life is way too hectic and many things may draw the best relations apart. Hope we can endure these tuggings, these stressful periods and become closer still in spite of them.

There is history behind the term "soulmates" and based on that term, NO ONE has a soulmate. But, since most people are willing to b@stardize the definition to be convenient and fit into their lives - those people say "yes".

Edit; Blowtorch............ Lamp....... Uzi.

I haven't met my "Soulmate" yet.

Don't believe I will.

With Billions of people on this planet, the chances I will meet her are slim.

Maybe next time...............

Been told that pple have more than one soul mate which can be either of the romantic type or non.
To me a soul mate is someone u connect with on all aspects of being on the exact same wavelength intellectually, emotionally, spiritually and physically.
OT: do i believe in one .... sorry to say folks I do NOT as no 2 pple cannot think exactly alike
I am NOT jaded just realistic. If they can keep up with me on all aspects that would be so awesome ....I'm a high energy person, obstinate @ times, but loves to play and laugh. I'm here to enjoy life and NOT to stress about stupid things. Been there, done that, crashed and burned.. etc. Not into it.
I think its called maturity and come to realization that it's really all about me without hurting anyone else. It's what I chose to do and how I do it.

Samadongshi writes, "...someone u connect with on all aspects of being on the exact same wavelength...".
If two individuals connect on 90% and are willing and able to compromise on the remaining 10% that still is "soul mate". The spirit, the soul is still intact. That 10% only make the relationship more interesting.

KamloopsIsHere, "...since most people are willing to b@sterdize the definition..."
Well, doesn't that makes it "the" new definition? This is how languages evolve.

mikeathome, "...the changes I meet her are slim."
Why should there only be one? Why not 5 or 12 possible "to be soul mates"?

Sorry, but 'no'. Having a bunch of people so deseperate for a connection to someone else that they incorrectly use a term does not count for 'evolutionary' change.

The population of the Earth is about 6 billion.

If there are 5 or 6 "soulmates" per person......

I have a billion to one chance to meet that special someone.

Better chances with the lottery.

To me, the term "Soulmates" implies an ideal match. Someone made for you in heaven. Maybe only a handful of them on the planet. Wow, pretty hard to find someone in that small group! You might even need to fly around the world to find them. The image of a needle in a haystack comes to mind, even though my mind dislikes cliches.

To me, the term Soulmates means that she would love my every quality, and accept each and every one of my faults as though as though they were nothing more than a freckle on my butt. And given that I don't have any freckles on my butt (I just verified it in the mirror), this would imply that I am Perfect. But I know this not to be the case.

So now imagine that you find someone like this. She/He sees you as Perfect. But inevitably, some human trait comes along from Him/Her that reveals Him/Her to be less than Perfect. Now He/She is rendered human in His/Her eyes, and all bets are off.

Soulmates, No. But someone worth loving as we are, Yes.
