HI, i'm trying to add smilies to my headline and also to my profile, but it won't let me do it. Please help!!

I can only add them to the end of the description bit, but i can't add them to my headline or the part about the first date. Also, on this forum there are other symbols you can use. Is it possible to save these symbols and use them on my profile?

You have to copy or cut and paste or manually type the codes for the emoticons to put them into your headline. They can also be put anywhere in your paragraphs the same way. Have a look at my profile for some examples.

This does not work for forum topic titles.

HTML used to be working for email messages, but as of a few days ago, seems to be disabled.

Those tags for the emoticons do not work in profile either and are far too long to be used in a profile headline.

Inserting the name of the emoticon the way that clicking on them does seems to be the only way to put them in an email or profile. HTML is enabled here in the forums though.

HTML Tags have now been disabled for both Forum & Profile Posting.

Use UBB Code for Letters, as explained in the UBB Code Tutorial

What is between Colons is converted to Smilies available for use on this Site.
Hence the Numbers beside the Smilies in the Link above.

And even more Smilies:Smilies/Emoticons

For Instance, if you type --> or :12: it will be converted to --->

Make sure there are 2 Spaces on both ends of the Colons , so as not to mesh in with other Characters outside the Code before you post your Forum or E-Mail Message or Profile Update. Once you have posted it, it will only show a 1 Space Gap.

Some "Smilies" which work on the Forum may not render
in your E-Mail or on your Profile, or its Headline.

A maximum of 40 Characters incl. Spaces for your Profile Headline. No single Word or Line can contain more than 21 continuous Characters without Spaces. Do not use Words that could be censored by the Site's Spam, Scam or Profanities Filters.

In your Edit Profile, the Admin has supplied a few Smilies to the right of the Page for Profile Use. Give 'em a Try in the Practice Thread

Obviously, I'm missing something....

I want to put on my headline, for example: Hi, my name is "Sue". The "Sue" part keeps dissapearing.

It currently says: I want to feel so lady...

Maybe too long if you add ---> Hi, my name is "Sue" ???

Maybe Sue is a banned Term. Try another Name for testing.

Thank you!

In the past, when I tried to enter a headline that was too long, it would just stop me from typing. Has something changed with that?

The term I was using was not a banned term - I tested that out. I really think it has to do with the quotes, but I am wanting to confirm that lol.

Can't tell you if there has been a Change, but you can have a maximum of 40 Characters incl. Spaces in your Profile Headline. No single Word or Line can contain more than 21 continuous Characters without Spaces.

Has nothing to do with Quotes.

No Problems with ---> Hi, my name is "Sue" either.

Post exactly what Line you have been trying to enter into the Profile Headline Field.

What other edits, such as shortening your About Me Form Field have you tried or done to your Profile?

Some "Smilies" which work on the Forum may not render in your E-Mail or on your Profile, or its Headline.

How do we know which ones we can't use in our profile?

I'm trying to use in my profile. When I click to update my profile I can see it in there, then after a few minutes it's magically gone. I'm also using which does not disappear on its own.

What is going on?

Thanks.

If you right click on each of those smilies and look at their properties to see their URLs, you'll see that one of them starts with http://forums.plentyoffish.com (peace sign), and one with http://www.plentyoffish.com (thumbs down). I'd guess the smilies originating from the forums won't last in your profile.

Or you could just put one into your profile, and if it lasts, it's one of the ones that lasts. If it doesn't, it isn't.

Nope, that's not it.

If you go to the complete smile list - http://forums.plentyoffish.com/datingPosts1485062.aspx#1485062, there's about 160 smilies and none of their properties are in the forums subdomain. Although, interestingly enough, the peace smilie is nowhere to be found in the master list. However, this is not the problem because the dancing banana isn't in the master list either and God knows every other profile has at least one dancing banana in it.

Any other ideas???

It looks like the peace smiley has no number associated with it, as far as I can tell. Doing a quick scan, it looks like other smilies have both a name and a number assigned to them. Peace sign was probably never set up the same way as all the others and got left off the list of URLs allowed in profiles. It gets filtered out of a profile just like any other unacceptable URL would.

The dancing banana doesn't have a number either, and the dancing banana is on every other profile on POF so that doesn't explain it.

So frustrating because I have a very specific and unique use of the peace smilie but I can't use it :(

Using Numbers or Characters are neither here nor there. Use whichever applies.

For the , simply use

The dancing banana's number is 31b. It's a weird number but it does have one. I can't find any indication anywhere that there's a number associated with the peace sign. That's why I suspect it was set up differently from the rest and may not be included on the list of acceptable URLs. But we'll probably never know.

The dancing banana's number is 31b

Nope. 31b is not a UBB assigned Emoticon Number, but simply the last 3 Letters of its File Name.

That's why I suspect it was set up differently from the rest and may not be included on the list of acceptable URLs.

Yup. It has a Name, or should I say a Set of UBB Characters instead of a UBB Number, and is a perfectly acceptable URL, but not on Profiles.

But we'll probably never know.

The "Peace Icon" as well as the "Dancing Banana" were one of the original Icons which were already here long before I presented and numerically formatted the current Smilie Package. Prior to this, no Numbers were used for UBB Coding.

The Smilies to the Right & Bottom of any Forum Reply Message or New Thread do not use Numbers, but Characters, although the File Name is usually something like »» icon_Number.gif. These were the original Smilies, and have also been updated since, peace.gif a slightly newer one.

For peace.gif () use »» :peace: and for icon_31b.gif () use »»

(^^^ Applicable to Forum Posts, not Profiles)

Although, interestingly enough, the peace smilie is nowhere to be found in the master list.

It was one of the original Smilies, prior to the numerical Lists. Its not a Master List, but List #2. Here is List #3 »» Smilies

List #4 was internal but is now part of List #2.

List #5 dated 5/23/2008 was never implemented.

How do we know which ones we can't use in our profile?

Peace sign was probably never set up the same way as all the others and got left off the list of URLs allowed in profiles.

Any Emoticons available to the far right of your Edit Profile Page can be used ... in your Profile.

I'm trying to use in my profile.

You cannot use that one in your Profile, but it can be used in E-Mails and Forum Posts.

I'm also using which does not disappear on its own.

That one you can use on your Profile.

For peace.gif use »» :Peace: and for icon_31b.gif use »»

I tried :Peace: and that does not work, the P has to be lowercase as well.
Typo. Corrected / Ticketoride
Here's the weird thing. If I put in the proper code for the peace smilie I can see the peace smilie in my profile. But when I go back to editing my profile, the peace code is converted to the following html code »» and then when I update the peace smilie is not visible in my profile. And if I try to edit again then the html code is gone too.

I hope I am explaining this clearly. Basically this is what happens:

1) I enter peace code and I can see peace smilie in my profile after updating.
2) I edit my profile and peace code turns into html code, I can't see the peace smilie in my profile after updating.
3) I edit my profile again there is no peace code or html code, after updating no smilie.

Why is the peace code converting to html and how do I make it stop?

Oops. I don't know how to enter smilie codes or html code in a post without it being converted. This is the html code I am getting in my profile (with extra angle brackets removed and spaces thrown in to keep it from converting: i m g src=smiles/peace.gif border=0 .

How do you enter code so that it is posted instead of converted?

Yes, you cannot use it in your Profile. That's what the System does when you enter Emoticons which are not to be used for your Profile.

1) I enter peace code and I can see peace smilie in my profile after updating.
2) I edit my profile and peace code turns into html code, I can't see the peace smilie in my profile after updating.
3) I edit my profile again there is no peace code or html code, after updating no smilie.

Do not enter the "Peace" Emoticon into your Profile !!!

How do you enter code so that it is posted instead of converted?

That's the whole Idea behind UBB Code ... it converts to HTML Tags. Most Users do not know any HTML and entering something between 2 Colons is something they can easily do, among a Number of other Considerations.

You cannot enter HTML Tags anywhere on Site, only approved UBB Codes. All UBB Codes are authorized for the Forums, many, but not all you can use for E-Mail, only a few select as shown to the right of your Edit Profile Page can be used on your Profile.
